not to "trying to be chill but can't help noticing how misogyny bleeds through the cracks etc etc" but once you realize that almost none of the cute disney comic relief sidekicks are women you can't unsee it. like that thing only exists to do some slapstick and look cute for plushies. why can't it be a woman. why are ALL of them he/him. it's driving me fucking insane

when there is a girl sidekick, she's part of a trio with two boys - Big Mama, Mrs. Potts, Shenzi, Laverne. Closest we get to a solo girl sidekick is Terk from Tarzan.

Part of this is probably the fact that most of Disney's biggest films have female leads, so you get gender parity with boy sidekick

my toxic trait is that i genuinely believe that the side effects of immortality won't affect me. i have so much stuff i want to learn i won't even notice the centuries go by. also i'm nosey as hell so the decades-deep gossip would keep myself from isolating from human society because i want to know what's going on. i would make such a good vampire i stand by this

the best way to make a product last longer is to buy a replacement before the first one's fully used up.

Yeah we're extracting energy from Literal Hell. Been a big part of powering our industrial infrastructure lately.

...

Oh, no, we're not using the souls or anything, we're just putting a boiler on the portal and hooking it up to a turbine.

that's usually called "geothermal"

terrible news: the target of your revenge who wronged you horrifically has been to therapy and become a better person and is legitimately sorry for how they hurt you

The biggest problem I see in the whole team green/team black bullshit in the HotD fandom is the media literacy fallacy of looking for a “good guy” and a “bad guy,” in every story. There is no “good guy” in this story. It’s about a hereditary monarchy. Everyone is a bad guy.

gripping the shoulders of every youtuber ever. look up that unfamiliar word before you pronounce it. especially if it's not a word from your native language but honestly double check the ones that are native to you if you've only seen them in writing. you will thank yourself later.

Now that we've come this far in the show, the only thing I have to say about it is…genuinely, what the fuck did Aemma Arryn and Rhaenyra's sons die for? The entire Green faction spent decades spitting directly in the faces of Aemma, Rhaenyra, and her children by treating their lives and bodily sacrifices as mere stepping stones for patriarchal ambition. Viserys initiated this cycle of cruelty by butchering Aemma for a male heir rule that he immediately discarded to name Rhaenyra his successor, only to passively enable Otto Hightower to pack the royal court with Rhaenyra's fiercest enemies. Otto ruthlessly weaponized Aemma’s fresh grave to pimp out a teenage Alicent to the grieving king, later orchestrating a decades-long smear campaign that dehumanized Rhaenyra’s sons as mere political weeds to be eradicated. Alicent then fueled this fire with self-righteous, bitter martyrdom, weaponizing her own forced compliance to duty to erase Aemma’s ultimate sacrifice and using a drug addled deathbed delusion to legitimize a treasonous coup. Finally, the hypocritical Green Council orchestrated a backstabbing, secret takeover that prioritized political survival over oaths, brutally murdering anyone who stood up for the king's true wishes and treating Rhaenyra’s teenage boys as acceptable collateral damage. In the end, every drop of blood spilled by the Greens built nothing but a golden furnace that burned both families alive, leaving Aemma's sacrifice entirely in vain, Rhaenyra's sons dead for a broken crown, and Alicent's own bloodline completely ruined.

that is, in fact, the point

less flippantly: the Dance of the Dragons (or as the book calls it, the Dying of the Dragons) is all about how far men will go to prevent a woman from having any real power. Aemma dies for nothing. that is the point. Jace and Luce die for nothing. that is the point. the pointlessness is the point. if Viserys had just prioritized his own wife over the unborn child inside her, none of this would have happened. Rhaenyra would have become queen, the dragons would still be alive, and the Targaryen dynasty would have been in a much better place to combat the threat of the White Walkers.

instead, because Viserys and Otto and Ormund and Daemon and Corlys and everyone else were too caught up in misogyny and homophobia and the need to have control, no one can have any nice things, and the dominoes are put into place for the Mad King to be overthrown by Robert.

it's also an illustration of how little the rich and wealthy care about the poor. Alicent has been at the Miserable Day Factory all season, you are meant to pity her, but when she's sat at table with someone who isn't a noble, her first question is "who is this woman?" Rhaenyra spends one day handing out redistributed food, then when the reality of having to feed all of King's Landing every day overwhelms her, she shuts down and stops receiving petitions. Daemon keeps killing random peasants to cover up for his mistakes. what do you think is going to happen in Tumbleton in the season finale? it certainly won't be fun for the peasants!

nobles fight and the real losers are the smallfolk. i am very much looking forward to next season when they can no longer be ignored.
