starting to see the cryptoTERF-y sharks sniffing around for blood in the water and feeling very uncomfortable about it

I'm currently unaware of any public posts trying to campaign towards the tumblr transmasc community, but these people tend to work in private servers and forums not always accessible to the public anyways. but there has been a sharp rise in accounts using TERF rhetoric and coming into transmasc discussions as if they're "one of us". but then they introduce certain red flags that start the alarm bells for me. idk, it's a certain way of speaking and certain beliefs being espoused that make me wary.

I suspect there's a deliberate campaign going on right now. please be cautious of what posts you interact and uncritically agree with at the moment. I think there's an effort being made to recruit people and I don't like what I see. these people do not care about you. they are manipulative as fuck. they practically groom people into their groups, chew them up, and spit them out.

anything encouraging you to view trans women as male or male-adjacent should put you on high alert anyways, but especially in this current rise of global fascism. stressful circumstances are the easiest time for cults to capture new victims. these people prey on that exact thing.

to my transmasc followers: trans women and transfems are not your enemy. they are not lesser than or intellectually naive. you are not an expert on the trans woman/transfem experience just because you have experience as a misogynized subject. you do not know more about what it is like to be a trans woman or transfem than a trans woman/fem herself. you do not necessarily know more about misogyny than a trans woman/fem does, and she does not necessarily know more about misogyny than you do. you have different perspectives on very similar issues. do not try to mentally prop yourself up above that of trans women/fems. you are equals. you are peers. you are not more or less than one another. that means you, too, are fallible and capable of prejudice. do not forget that. do not abandon others just because you feel hurt and unheard.

trans men and mascs, I understand that you have been accustomed to breadcrumbs for so long that they look like a fine lobster dinner, but please stop glazing every person who says the bare minimum supportive or nice thing about trans mascs.

ik we almost never get the bare minimum to begin with, so somebody actually acknowledging our problems feels like woah I'm in love with you. and victim blaming is horrendous, I am NOT making this post in order to shame anyone who has idealized a person who gave them the bare minimum. I hate it when I see that shit too. it's a very normal response when you're used to being either abused or neglected or forgotten, to suddenly feel like the bare minimum is huuuuge.

you're not bad for that. you shouldn't feel ashamed that you reacted that way. that's not your fault. anyone who tries to blame you for further abuse you experience when you were just trying to get your basic social needs met, when you literally just wanted someone to fucking support and care about you for once, is a piece of shit who needs to be sacrificially tossed into the volcano. okay? okay.

my point is: you still need to stop it. you deserve way more than the bare minimum. you need to develop some self esteem that you deserve more than the bare minimum. you can stop telling yourself that that's all you deserve. you can stop accepting the bare minimum just because you think that's the most you'll ever get. you shouldn't have to diminish yourself in order to be cared about. that's not love. that's not care. that's at best neglect and at worse coercive control and abuse.

edit: also fuck any of the people who give this same message but instead try to treat you like a hapless little child who can't use their brain or think for themselves. the way people will condescend to transmasc abuse victims is horrendous and there are ways of addressing it without being a POS. you don't have to accept that treatment, either. you are allowed to have agency in this discussion just as much as anyone else, and anyone who tries to treat you like a child and place themselves as the adult teaching you some sort of lesson, can go into the volcano as well.

the irony of it all. you're so pro transfeminist material analysis until it's a transmasc talking about abortion rights or gyno care or the material reality of having a uterus in this world that oppresses you for it. but none of these people actually read the literature they claim to worship, just like evangelicals and their bibles that they never actually fully read front to cover and instead just cherry pick whatever suits their whims

there is a certain group of people who seem to literally only mean "binary trans women" when they say "trans people", and not once have I met a trans guy or nonbinary person who was one of those people. it's such a subtle red flag. and people will do it in front of me, too, with full knowledge that I'm trans. and I'm like. how do you square that in your brain, buddy

that said, there are a lot of stealth passing trans guys who will say "trans men" and only ever think about other stealth passing trans men/mascs, and it really pmo sometimes. "we have male privilege because people see me as a man IRL and treat me with respect in conversations" YOU. YOUUUUUUU. YOUR EXPERIENCE IS NOT UNIVERSAL. IT'S NOT EVEN THE MAJORITY

because you know damn well that the people saying "all trans men have male privilege" literally do mean all. they don't make exceptions for non-passing trans men. because they think that looking more masculine inherently equals privilege granted. they think a non-passing trans man is treated with more respect and dignity than any trans woman ever (hence why you get racist nonsense bullshittery discourse like "Black trans men oppress white trans women"). it's bizarre. so when you make these broad sweeping claims about having male privilege, you are thereby affirming these people's bigoted beliefs that non-passing trans men are also treated like pericis men, even if you might understand the nuance of it all (though I've seen some who very clearly don't!).

so your attempts at conceding middle ground in order to be honest and have integrity, doesn't work on these people. it just makes them feel further justified in the mistreatment of transmascs, because now you've given them even more ammo to go "SEE! THE TRANS MEN AGREE THEY HAVE MALE PRIVILEGE! THAT MEANS YOU'RE LYING!". those of us who don't pass and who aren't binary trans men just have to sit in the mess you people make while trying to be "good".

I'm tired of being "good". I don't care if they like me anymore. bigots can kick rocks. eat your boots or lick them or whatever it is that you do with shoes nowadays

I'm asking this out of genuine curiosity (mixed with confusion and frustration, but the curiosity is still there) and not as some sorta "gotcha":

what does "material analysis" mean to you?

how would you define it?

where did you learn that phrase?

have you ever read Hegel or any philosophy that Marx was building in top of?

it's okay if you haven't! but I keep seeing people within the trans / transmisogyny / transfeminist discourse using this term incorrectly, and I have a hunch as to why (re: people gathering it from Marxist theory that doesn't explain it very well and assumes some level of prior knowledge that most modern readers engaging with it don't have, and then pulling out a very slanted concept of materialism and material analysis from that work). and like. I can answer the "why" fairly easily, but the thing I can't seem to answer is... what the fuck are people actually meaning, then?

because clearly it has some sort of meaning to the people misusing it. they're not just throwing it out there as a garnish for no good reason. they have some concept of what "material analysis" is in their head, even if that definition is incorrect. and enough of them seem to agree together on the same general thoughts that they've formed community lingo about it. but I just, honestly, cannot figure out what the fuck this definition is for them. I don't know what they're thinking when they use that term, which makes it difficult to parse out what they're saying because it's definitionally inaccurate and inappropriate to the term they're using, but clearly they still mean something by it. I just don't know what that "something" is.

do I have a frustration and bitterness and annoyance at people being ignorant? yeah sure. I'm not gonna pretend otherwise. but, on a very genuine level, I am somebody who cares to read between the lines and actually engage with what somebody's trying to communicate to me. for the most part, at least. definitions are still important, because you still need mutual agreed upon meanings in order to communicate anything, lest communication fall apart altogether, but if somebody meant one thing and used a different word to describe it, I think it's annoying and disingenuous to argue against what they actually meant vs what they literally said. we can understand that concept just fine when we're talking to somebody whose native language isn't English, but for whatever reason we act like that's a weird concept to apply to native speakers as well. if you ask me where "the thingamajig" is, I can probably infer through context what you're asking me for. it would be a jerk move to put my hand on my hip and be all "it's not a thingamajig, that's not the right word for it, how dare you use that word" when I know what you meant.

so like when I'm asking "what the fuck do you mean when you say "material analysis"? what idea or concept are you trying to communicate when you use that term?", I am not trying to be a condescending little shit about it. even if I'm annoyed at the collective ignorance causing this frustration + the pretentious, stubborn-ass attitude people have towards any sort of correction about it or embarrassment they feel at being called out for their ignorance. I won't hide that part. but I can be simultaneously annoyed while also genuinely wanting to know a practical answer to a question, so that I can better understand what the fuck people mean. and like. meet people at their level, at the very least.

people are trying to describe something by using that term, even if they've chosen the improper term to do so.

"who benefits from the imbalance and who suffers most? and what if one of the reasons things haven't resolved, despite all the effort that you've put into it, is because the person you're with knows they benefit from you being in an imbalanced relationship"

take this in, digest it.....

now apply this to anti-transmasc discourse

and tbh trans discourse overall

transcript:
Don't be fooled. Someone can abuse you in very covert ways that don't show up physically. There are some people whose best way to control you is to actually wear you down.
And one of the tools that they will use is employing a tool that will effectively turn you into your own self monitoring system.
Take, for example, the person that you're with does or says something that impacts you negatively, and you wanna bring it up with them like, "Hey, you know, when I heard you say this, here is how I felt afterwards. You know, moving forward, can we try and find a different way of expressing ourselves that [...] Is there a different way that we can express ourselves?"
It's a very normal thing to do.
But, if someone's reaction to that is, "Oh, you know, you don't think that I can do anything right?" or "You know, I'm super stressed" or "I mean, I hear you, but like, you know, you do X, Y, and Z"
If you're not careful and you don't know what's really happening here, you will adjust yourself and adapt how you show up in hopes that y'all can get to the objective of what you originally brought up and how you originally said it. Like that you can still continue to meet that objective, which is repair.

But if someone is an abusive person, they're not looking for repair.

They're looking for control.

They exploit the instability in the relationship as a way to gain a more advantageous position over you, to reduce any kind of potential vulnerability or weakness or lack of control that they would otherwise perceive.
But if you take what they're sharing at face value, and you're like, "Okay, well, maybe they are stressed. Let me be more mindful. Maybe I didn't express myself the way I needed to. Like, let me be more considerate. I can see how those words trigger them, so let me be empathetic and readjust how I might phrase something."
What this person might inadvertently be doing with you is training you to continually be off balance, off kilter, constantly monitoring,
thinking, before you ever go and have a conversation with them,
"Okay, well, how do I have this conversation? Which words do I use?"
You might be spending all this time researching, going to therapy, doing all these things, investing a lot of time, a lot of emotional energy, a lot of psychological calories, again, in hopes that things will improve.
But what's really happening here is your life force is being drained. Your mind is being exhausted. You're starting to become incredibly overwhelmed. Even if you mask it really well, and you're still very high functioning in all areas of your life.
Over time you start to feel like, "Oh, I'm really burnt out." And you can't really point to what exactly it is. "Maybe it's because I'm unfulfilled at work." "Maybe it's because I haven't caught up with my friends." "Maybe I need to go and do some self care."
There's this energy that goes now into overcompensating to make up for the deficiency in your relationship. Because the person that you're with is not investing equally and you have to do more, be more, carry more. That is a symptom of an imbalanced relationship.
So you have to ask yourself the question, who benefits from the imbalance and who suffers most? And what if, one of the reasons things haven't resolved, despite all the effort that you've put into it, is because the person that you're with knows they benefit from you being in an imbalanced relationship.

ik we're trying to be 'the better person' and not stoop to the same lows as the people discriminating against us, but I kinda wonder if we made our own quippy catch phrases and mean names to mock them with, if it would change the culture war about it all. people seem to just go with whatever seems cool and start naturally avoiding anything they see other people call lame or rude. we're trapped in a situation where the most effective way out is to mildly roast them until people agree with us because nobody actually gaf about arguments and evidence at the end of the day. or at least that's how it feels. like we've gotta give a taste of their own medicine a little bit. not too much. not crossing any lines. but like yknow how the most effective thing to do with some conservatives is to just give a pause after they say something weird and then switch subject? subconsciously queueing them to recognize that they've made a social faux pas? the internet does that, too. familiarity bias. if we make fun of them a little bit I think it'll help idk.

because appealing to people's better morals really doesn't seem like it's working very well for all of us, given how many people have literally died in the last few months.

just start replying to them with this gif bc that's exactly how they fucking act 24/7

"decenter trans men" so what is it? are trans men hyperinvisible? or are they the center of everything? because those things are mutually exclusive. you can't have both. since fucking when have trans men ever been centered? or would admitting that you've been centered (at least in trans spaces) this entire time cause such internal turmoil that you've gotta come up with these stupid one-liners that make no sense, so you can drown out the sound of your own guilty conscience?

over on twitter the pericis TERFs have taken up use of the word "theyfab", apparently. i hate that podcast too but they are swarming the podcast hosts calling them slurs. so that's fun. one of the ones getting 2K+ likes rn was following people talking about being a wombynly woman vulva biological female and how men are the devil with their penises and at the same time calling the hosts of that podcast "theyfabs" with various comments about eradication. so. do with that info what you will.
