The Adventure Bang

@theadventurebang / theadventurebang.tumblr.com

A collaborative writer, artist, etc event for enthusiasts of The Adventure Zone podcast! Special thanks to defenestratin, meglm, and rabdoidal for the art in the banner!

Writer Summaries

Emails have been sent out for authors to submit summaries of their fics! You can submit them through this week, but try to get them in by the 11th!

Email us or message us on Discord with questions and concerns! There are always a few emails that never go through, so make sure you got one if you were supposed to!! (Writers only)

sorry if you've answered this before but im new to the project: for writers, what's the position on cursing? obviously no slurs or anything but like would the f word fit into the teen category in a non-sexual context?

Avatar

Yes! We try to be fairly loose with what teens can and can't interact with. All that we consider truly "NSFW" and keep them away from is sexual content, or special cases of extreme violence, gore, etc. Curse words can go wherever you'd like.

Though, for those adults that just aren't comfortable partnering with someone underage no matter the topic, they're able to opt out and vice versa.

Thanks!!

The Adventure Bang 2019 FAQ and Schedule

Welcome to The Adventure Bang! We’re back again for 2019, and hopefully we’ll see a bigger turnout and better managed event. Below, you will find all the information you need on the event, what it is, and how you can get involved. The ask box is open if you have any further questions.

Once again, special thanks to @defenestratin, @rabdoidal, and @meglm for the art used in the banner!

What’s a Big Bang? A bang is an event in which artists and writers collaborate with each other to create works over a scheduled amount of time (usually a few months at least). This bang also allows musicians, animators, or any other sort of fine artist!

What’s this Bang about? The Adventure Bang (TAB, for short), is open to characters and events from all arcs! From Balance to Amnesty, anything inside of the universe of the TAZ podcast is welcome. As well as being open to all characters, you are also able to create works for any form of AU you can think of, so the possibilities are endless.

How do I participate? Sign ups are open! Here’s a link.. If you want to get more involved, feel free to hop into our Discord server whenever you want! While Tumblr is our primary hub, we’re also welcoming participants from Twitter and Instagram.

Find more information under the cut!

What do I have to create? Your creations do have some minimums that you must meet to be a part of the event, all of which are listed below. Writers must have a minimum of 3,000 words, but can go as high as they’d like. To keep things fair, artists will have a minimum dependent on how much their partner is expected to write. If you plan to create something that isn’t listed, your specific minimums will be given to you along with your confirmation, or they can be discussed.

{ Writers }

  • Minimum of 3,000 words.
  • Has to be able to be understood as a standalone fic. Though sequels, prequels, and anything in between can be created for your fic, what you make for the Bang must be comprehensible without having to have read any extra parts.
  • Posted to whatever site(s) you prefer. We will have an AO3 collection.
  • G-Teen rating for anyone under 18. (for sexual content, specifically. Violence is allowed)
  • Be able to provide a summary of your work when claims open, as well as a small excerpt of what you’ve written so far.

{ Artists }

  • For partners with 3,000+ words: at least one finished artwork.
  • For partners with 10,000+ words: at least two finished artworks.
  • For partners with 18,000+ words: at least three finished artworks.
  • Claim up to 3 writers to pair with
  • Digitally made, or a fairly high quality scan/photo or a traditional work.
  • Posted to whatever site(s) you prefer.
  • May be paintings, lineart, comics, large/multiple small pixel art(s), animations of at least 30 seconds, etc.

{ Others }

  • Music; 1 or more playlist with at least 10 tracks || 1 or more remix of at least 1 minute || 1 or more original composition of at least 1 minute.
  • Cosplay; 1 or more cosplays with at least 4 photos/gifs, per pairing.
  • Gifset; 2 or more sets with at least 6 gifs, per pairing.
  • Photoset; 2 or more sets with at least 9 photos, per pairing.
  • Video edit; 1 or more videos of at least 1 minute, per pairing.

FAQ

How will claims work? When you sign up, you will have the option to state what kind of works you would like to be partnered with if you are a writer. Plain art will always be a default, but if you say that you would be fine with partnering with musicians or anything else, they will also be able to claim your work when it comes time for claims, and they will be partnered with you along with your artist. Claims will start out with writers, who will submit summaries of their work, and from there the artists will get to see the summaries and give which they would most like to claim- after artist claims are over, all others will be able to see what’s available for their specific type and choose from those.

Can I sign up for more than one thing? Yes! Just keep in mind that you will have to work with multiple people, and create multiple works. Don’t sign up for more than what you can handle!

Can I write more than one story? You can! However, you will end up submitting two works for claims, and have separate partners for both, unless this is worked out prior to sign up. Again, don’t sign up for more than you can handle.

What if I already have a partner? You can still sign up! You will just state your partners name when you sign up, and they will do the same for you. You can still apply for extra partners if you’d like.

When does my work have to be finished? Posting is currently scheduled for around October 5-12th 2019, but it is subject to change. Your work won’t have to be finished until posting.

Can I drop out if needed? Yes, you can drop out of the event anytime. Just make sure to let us know before you do. We promise not to make you feel bad for it! If you aren’t sure if you’ll need to drop out, try to give it a few days before making a final decision if you can. There’s no coming back after you drop out.

Can my fic be a story I’ve already started? As long as none of the fic has been posted anywhere, it can be.

If you have any more questions, feel free to send them to the ask box or on our Discord!

The schedule as it currently stands is below.

100% of the schedule is subject to change depending on the situation- this is just the basic outline that we’ve planned. You will be notified of any changes.

I’ve got worse problems

Two years out of college with a useless degree in aeronautical engineering, Avi is trying his best to manage the Bureau of Balance base. With the Sight, he sees things others don’t—like the fact that supernatural creatures are living everywhere around him. Ever since his parents’ disappearance into the night two years ago, Avi has had to rely on luck and intuition in order to keep his skill alive. And for what hand in life he’s been dealt, he’s doing mostly okay. But when Magnus Burnsides, human and unaware, stumbles into his bar in an ungodly hour of the night, drunk and dizzy, Avi’s life begins to shift in ways no calculations could predict.

The Adventure Bang 2018 is official over!

The occasional post might still be reblogged to make up for anything that may have been missed, but the official posting dates have come and gone.

All that’s left now is to prepare for next year! Hopefully, next year’s event will be more organized and efficient. To achieve this, I’m putting out a mod application! Anyone is welcome to apply, and you’ll be contacted by November 8th if you’ve been accepted to help us out. Nothing is too little, so don’t be afraid to try out even if you don’t have a ton of time.

I’ll be putting up a new link on our page to archive all of the reblogged posts from this year’s event-- but there’s been a surprisingly low number of posts in the queue. If you posted something, and it doesn’t get reblogged by tonight, send a message with a link to it so that it can be taken care of. I apologize if your been missed.

And, I’m keeping the Discord server open! Some channels will be archived, and only 2018 participants will be able to see them, but anyone can join and have access to the general channels!

Keep a lookout for new posts about next year!

Here’s some links you might want:

coffee and scrawled words

She’s real cute. Do you think I could get her number?
Lucretia nearly spills her coffee when the words appear on her arm, clearly visible in the sunlight as she stands outside. It’s a looping penmanship, somewhere between a proper scrawl and something much more elegant. She’s never seen the handwriting before.
Lucretia has no idea how to react.”
Lucretia knows how it goes – you meet your soulmate, and then their words start showing up on your arms. Kind words, always kind words and always about you; compliments, little observations, the like. But of course you don’t get to know who. Where’s the fun in that?
Some cosmic force seems to believe the fun is in the not knowing.
Lucretia isn’t sure she agrees.

Presenting: chapter 1 of my fic for @theadventurebang, which I was so excited to be able to participate in!
