SKETCHBOOK BEAM ,,
Game Changers/Heated Rivalry au where both Shane and Ilya get invites to do the masked singer. Shane turns it down because he doesn’t like music, can tell he’d hate the giant costumes, and finds the entire concept of the show dumb. But Ilya goes for it not because he finds the show good but because he thinks it’s hilarious. His voice during speaking parts has to be even more disguised than most guests to hide his accent which only makes him laugh harder. The show as a concept is so incredibly dumb to him that participating is the height of comedy.
However, despite the disguised voices and elaborate costumes, he immediately clocks one of his opponents this season as Rose Landry. And obviously she’s not a threat anymore and he thinks she’s a great friend to Shane and actually does like her, this is a competition. Ilya can tell from the way she gestures under her costume that she knows it’s him too, which of course means it’s on. If Ilya can’t be competitive towards/with his husband, he’ll be competitive towards his ex-girlfriend turned close friend. Shane is watching from and knows it’s them both because he knows Ilya excepted the offer and he figured Rose out from her voice, and he’s both impressed and embarrassed. At least Ilya found a reason to actually try at a thing he signed up for to have a laugh. Both Shane and Ilya expected Ilya to be eliminated by week two since he was barely taking it seriously and because he can’t sing (at least they all thought). But he ends up making it far enough along with Rose that they end up in the bottom two a week before the semi finals and have to sing a knockout head to head with each other. And they are both taking the most unserious thing so deadass serious it’s felt in the crowd and the panel. Shane is both embarrassed and insanely turned on and he will be asking his husband the sing that same song while he rails him later that night.
