General Hobbit Romance Headcanons!
Frodo Baggins
• Frodo would be an absolute snuggle bug, and he would only become more of one after his return. Play with his hair and he will MELT. Fastest way to put him to sleep.
• He has a great memory, and he will meticulously plan for your dates and anniversaries, and those days will be solely dedicated to you both, unless of course, you planned a double date or something of the sort.
• His favorite dates would be picnics, good food, good company, and he’d always bring along his current favorite book. They’d nearly always end with you two snuggled up on the blanket, him reading to you as you just enjoy each others company.
• Frodo’s favorite gift to give, will always be letters, poetry, and sweet notes. Wether he woke up before you and had to go into town, leaving you a sweet good morning note with plenty of flowery words about how peaceful you looked, and how he dare not disturb you. To full letters, pages long, about how he misses you, and how Bag End is just not the same without you, all because you’re visiting your family for a weekend.
• After his adventure, if he’s struggling with all that has happened to him, the best way to help him feel better is to talk to him, hold him, play with his hair, and tell him about your day. Let him lay his head on your chest while you read to him. Distractions may not fix what happened, but they help him to take his mind off of his worries, and he absolutely values that.
Samwise Gamgee
• Sam my sweet boy, he is the biggest sweetheart in all of middle earth. You will absolutely feel so loved and adored with him.
• Sam’s favorite dates are quality time, cooking together, snuggling on his couch in front of his fire place, taking a nice walk together. He has the ability to even make errands into little dates, oh you’re visiting the market to fill your pantry? You will be holding hands the entire way, little snacks will be bought for you two to eat, and he’ll likely get you a gift before you leave, just something that reminds him of you, or something he thinks you’d enjoy.
• His attempts at courting are sweet, leaving flowers at your door but leaving before you can see him, offering to help you with your garden, if you hang out with him and any of his friends he’ll pull chairs out for you and open doors for you, but he will hold off on actually making thing obvious. He worries that it may not be returned or that he’ll make a fool of himself.
• Sam would be absolutely wrapped around your finger and once you both become official, acts of service are absolutely his love language, you will be invited to meet his family very soon into it, and weekly dinners with him will absolutely be a thing!
• He loves showing interest in your hobbies, and would hope you’d do the same with his! He adores listening to what you have to say about your hobbies, and he will nearly always be willing to try it out with you, unless it’s just pure trouble. But even if you don’t want to get your hands dirty when returning the favor, just sitting in his garden while he does the work would be fine by him. Ask him questions about it, he loves to talk about his flowers, what makes them grow best, and their different meanings.
• Pink Bluebells, Matthiola, Ranunculus, Alyssums, Agapanthuses, and Bellflowers, just a few flowers I could see frequenting the bouquets you receive from him, all picked with purpose.
Merry Brandybuck
• Merry can certainly be prone to mischief from time to time, but he is less prone to it than some (Pippin), but he does have the ability to be a tad bit more responsible. Though he would like someone who doesn’t want him to be too serious all of the time, he likes it when he can still have fun.
• Merry’s preferred dates are often more social ones, big dinners at Brandy Hall, going to The Green, anywhere that you can socialize and he thrives! He also enjoys social dates because then he can show off, he’d love to keep an arm around you, or have yours around him nearly all the time. You both would be touching in some way the entire time, he’d guarantee that.
• Being Merry’s lover, you would have to get used to physical affection, in public, but especially alone, this hobbit has a hard time keeping his hands to himself. 1000% The type to run up behind you and lift you up just to hear you yelp.
• Even despite his tendency to enjoy being social, he can still enjoy a good night in. Though you will have to deal with no personal space and wandering hands. But there are days where he may be needier for your attention, and on those days you’ll often find his head in your lap, arms around your waist, and if you catch his gaze, you’ll get to see the most lovesick look on that hobbits face.
• The best ways to make him swoon is small acts of service, making him breakfast after he had a long night of drinking, sewing a button back onto his favorite vest, helping him out of some trouble he and Pippin got into. He never fails to pay you back in kisses, the kind where he’ll hold your face and just litter your face with them, throwing small praises and thank you’s in between.
Pippin Took
• Pippin is an absolute attention hog, he becomes your personal jester, existing to make you laugh, if he sees you smile, his day is made infinitely better. He’s a bit dumb (affectionate) but he is very pure of heart, and even if he does slip up and make mistakes, he never does it out of maliciousness.
• Pippins preferred dates vary, however they tend to follow one of two styles, either they are food oriented, like baking together or going to get dinner at the Green Dragon, or they are thrust at you out of nowhere, he spots you while you’re on the way to your home? Next thing you know you’re being turned into an accomplice in some vegetable heist. Either way it always ends up being a blast.
• Now, like Merry, he’s also very physically affectionate, he loves being in your arms, or you in his. He adores coming behind you and hugging you around your waist, his face resting against your back. Your lap becomes his favorite seat, and he adores it when you sit on his as well, he wants to be tangled up with you as much as possible.
• You will have to overstock your pantry, he won’t just leave your food alone because you’re together. No, you’ll become a victim of his food heists, chances are you’ll catch him up in the middle of the night, feasting on whatever pastries and cheeses he can find. But don’t worry, at least he’ll offer you some of your own food!
• In my eyes, Tooks are like the hobbit equivalent of orange cats. They can be very affectionate, spontaneous, and fun, but they can also cause lots of problems. No other Took shows that as well as Pippin does however, so you best be ready to help him out of whatever he gets himself into, and it’s best not to scold him for it unless you want him to sulk.
• Pippin loves to snuggle, doesn’t matter who’s holding who, or what position you both are in, he’s happy as long as you’re clinging to each other. Though he’ll never complain if he gets to lay his head on your tummy, or at least keep a hand on it, no matter your build.
Bilbo Baggins
• Bilbo’s not exactly the most outgoing lover, but that’s certainly part of his charm. He’s romantic in a somewhat traditional sense, he’s protective, and he’s supportive. But he’s not a very outgoing hobbit, he’s a homebody, he likes his chair, his bed, his personal space. Being welcomed into that space, especially with a “you’re welcome anytime” is a very big compliment.
• Bilbo’s the kind of Hobbit to be perfectly content alone, so having him want you around means a lot. Most of your time spent together isn’t inherently date like, it’s more often just sitting together, reading together, sitting out in front of his smial and watching the sun set, maybe with some hand holding or a bit of leaning on each other.
• His love language is quality time and gift giving, to him there’s no better way to show someone he cares than to be there with them. He’ll sit and hold you if you need to cry, or if you’re overwhelmed at a party he’ll find an excuse to drag you both away and sit near you unless you would like physical touch, or simply having your legs touch while you read. Alternatively though, in his eyes, there’s nothing like a good sentimental gift, from a food you’ve been craving but haven’t been able to get, to a new teacup with your favorite flower painted on it.
• Surprise him with kisses and you will have an extremely flustered hobbit on your hands, he loves them don’t get him wrong, but that won’t stop him from forgetting how to speak for a second after! His favorite kinds of kiss to give are ones on your palms, the back of your hands, your fingers, he finds them intimate, sweet, and tender. But don’t worry, he will always be a fan of a good, well timed, romantic kiss! (That he may or may not overplan for a little.)
• Bilbo is absolutely the type to fall asleep on his couch or chair, and yes, you could wake him up, or put a blanket over him and let him rest while you go to bed, but he has an absolute weakness for you joining him there. If he wakes up, and sees you asleep on top of him or crammed in next to him, the discomfort won’t matter, and he’ll only fall more in love.
