The thing nobody tells you about trying to quit porn
you don't fail because you're weak.
you fail because your brain has spent years building a highway to that dopamine hit. and every time you try to stop, you're standing at the entrance of that highway with nothing but a paper sign that says "please don't."
i tried everything.
deleted apps. made promises to myself at 2am. set timers. told myself "just this last time." went 3 days clean and felt like a new person. went 4 days and relapsed harder than before.
the shame spiral after a relapse is almost worse than the habit itself. because now you're not just dealing with the addiction — you're dealing with the proof that you couldn't stop it.
what actually helped me wasn't more willpower.
it was making access harder than the urge was strong.
when the highway has a roadblock, your brain has just enough time to remember why you wanted to stop in the first place.
you're not broken. your environment just hasn't been working for you.
change the environment first. the willpower follows.
if you're in this fight, you're not alone. my inbox is open.
