Following Dear You 给阿嬷的情书 this is the next film I want to see in my local cinema, Michelle Yeoh's It's My Time 魔方小姐 (though the chances of this going international is slim, heard it didn't do too well in China).
The thing that caught my eye is that it's based on a true story of a women named Zhao Wenying, in which she set the world record for the fastest blindfolded solve of a 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube in the 60+ age category, with a time of 3 minutes and 33 seconds. For someone who had a cubing phase, this is already very interesting to me. It's even sponsored by Moyu Cube(?) 😂 (Side track: highly recommend the documentary The Speed Cubers)
There's not many films in the Chinese sphere that features an older woman as the main character, the last one I saw was Like a Rolling Stone 出走的决心 (2024), the main character was 50 in that one. Michelle Yeoh's character is 70 in this film, incredible. It's My Time is also directed by a woman! I'm just excited to see Michelle Yeoh back doing full Chinese produced films in general.
The other thing I've heard from reviews is that there is also a great friendship, possibly old woman yuri, subplot 👀 and they are...childhood friends!!
