i think a not insignificant amount of "its not that deep" type responses to particular readings texts would vanish if people were capable of framing their readings of a text as A Reading Of A Text instead of either confident assertions of authorial intent or #theorycrafting. like yes its true everything is as deep as you're willing to make it and you can get out of a story as much as you're able to put into it. but there's a pretty significant difference in the relationship to the text held by a reading the author would have intended/predicted/been in conversation with as compared to a reading the author wouldn't or even couldn't have known would follow. i think insisting the latter type of reading has a more immediate and concrete relationship to the source text than it really does is what prompts a lot of kneejerk rejection of certain kinds of media analysis.
i also think a lot of people could benefit from trying to understand a lot of their 'headcanons' as Readings Of Texts also but thats a different conversation.
man what the fuck ever
Something fun about Spanish is that there are certain situations there are two words for the same thing because one word comes from Latin and the other comes from Arabic.
So for example for scorpion we have "escorpión" (latin) and "alacrán" (arabic), for oil we have "aceite" (arabic) and "óleo" (latin) (although in this case aceite is by far the most common, óleo is only used in very specific context, e.g. when you're talking about oil paintings). Similarly for olive we have "oliva" (latin) and "aceituna" (arabic).
Alternate universe where everything is the same except that the standard term for olive oil in Spanish is not "aceite de oliva" but "óleo de aceituna"
Why are there just blobs of fake rubber meat that a bunch of unrelated microbes can build in the dirt but they've only ever been found in china and can't be classified any further than "biological objects"
i love you strange bacterial soil meat
I feel like it hardly matters anymore, but Flock isn't the only unsecured intrusive data selling crime inventing AI hallucinating automated license plate reading mass surveillance camera operators. Axon and Motorola and Amazon and ALPR and CCTV and security cameras should be equally rejected. All surveillance must go.
You are never monitored for your safety.
Don't tag this #america, unless you're talking about the continent, dipshits. You're not exempt from this.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; he leadeth me beside the still waters.
He—wait. Why dost the Lord hath clippers.
The Lord sheareth me.

stylish little bakeries are like "everything is so much better with old cereal on top" and their hearts are in the right places but it isnt entirely correct
the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this
yknow what i mean it's usually like a journalist uncovering that a completely offline faceless ceo at Franchise Corp was funneling funko pop dollars into an anti abortion lobby or something. jkr is just online 24/7 like if you buy tickets to my wizard theme park you are helping me destroy the enemies of western civilization you are uplifting the voices of women who menstruate
fucccck…..
You hear the freedom motif as the balloon floats off in the wind
