sorry

Digging into the Holmes timeline for Reasons and the fact that “a combination of events, into which I need not enter” caused Holmes and Watson to leave London literally DURING Oscar Wilde’s trial for “gross indecency” (aka having a boyfriend)….. Doyle was friends with Wilde…………..I’m connecting the dots

Okay, so I wanted to find more information on Doyle’s friendship with Wilde, and I didn’t end up needing to look very far, because I’ve been listening to Stephen Fry’s Sherlock Holmes collection and he brings it up it in the foreword to The Sign of Four.

Doyle and Wilde met at a dinner hosted by an American businessman who wanted them both to write books for his magazine. Wilde immediately won Doyle’s heart by complimenting one of his historical novels, which was especially thrilling for Doyle as Wilde was already famous and he (Doyle) hadn’t expected Wilde to have even heard of him.

They did both end up agreeing to write for the magazine. Doyle wrote The Sign of Four and Wilde wrote The Picture of Dorian Gray.

The most interesting part of this whole thing is that Doyle would later go on to gush about Wilde in a memoir written after Wilde’s trial for gross indecency, and in this memoir describes Dorian Gray as “a book that is surely upon a high moral plane.” Which was an incredibly bold stance, given that Dorian Gray was famously cited as evidence against Wilde in his trial.

Fry speculates that some of Holmes’ eccentricities in later books, such as his “murmured elegance of phrasing, dressing gown-lounging bohemian habits, and range of intellectual and artistic reference” may have been inspired by Wilde. He also notes that Langham Hotel, which is was the venue where Wilde and Doyle first met, is name checked in The Sign of Four.

In conclusion, we do NOT ask Holmes and Watson why they left London in 1895.

Thinking about how I’d known Haurchefant died from early on (I wasn’t spoiled-spoiled - I just had a feeling from Reactions I’d gotten when mentioning that my wol loved him) and it was so still much worse than I thought it would be

Because, since I knew it was coming I started looking for signs of the when’s and how’s of it. And the lead up to The Vault was pretty fucking obvious with that in mind.

So I’m listening to Haurchefant make his impassioned speeches after Aymeric is captured. How it’s his Knightly Duty to Aid Those in Need and Rescue a Good Honorable Man like Ser Aymeric etc etc

And I go “oh yeah okay he’s going to have his big Knight Moment and die saving Aymeric gotcha gotcha”

And then. he doesn’t.

He dies saving the Warrior of Light.

And I’m sure it’s a different read if you don’t ship your WoL with him but boy fucking howdy if, like me, you do!!

It’s Haurchefant, who has put so much of his fucking identity into knighthood and serving Ishgard and all that jazz, in the single emotional instant of the Warrior of Light being in peril - throwing all of that away to protect them. because in that instant that is all that matters to him. they are all that matters to him.

it's there in his final words, how he says "forgive me, i could not bear the thought [of you being harmed]"

he loved the Warrior of Light so much that for a second it eclipsed everything else. and thats what killed him.

anyways my WoL is real fucked up about this everyone have a nice night

kabru dunmeshi is basically a chernobyl survivor who was adopted by an eternally young hot white woman who was going to pamper him for his entire life but instead of wanting to be pampered he was like "mom, i need to become a stalker. i need to return to the Zone" and his elf mom was like "nooo the Zone sucks you'll be shot by a bandit" and he was like "no mom i need to go to the Zone and find out what happened" and she was like "fine" and pulled out a machinegun from her days in the Suicide Squad and trained him to kill while firing on him with live ammunition. Then he went to the Zone and immediately got killed by a pack of wild dogs because elf mom only taught him how to shoot other humans
