Okay have had the wherewithal to set up two now, so, sideblogs!

Some-small-mercy - Writing/worldbuilding/attempts-at-fiction/fanfic-if-I-ever-write-any. Four variably detailed settings and counting, plus stuff written for various rps and games long enough I feel like saving it somewhere.

Literary-Illuminati - Bookblog, SFF and nonfiction with the very occasional actual literature sprinkled in. If I end up listening to any longform podcasts will probably post about them there too. (ty @lifeattomsdiner for the name)

Tbh I always thought that was part of the genius of picking him in particular to replicate, because the original blog showed that “some claims confabulated out of a decades-old recollection of a college lecture that probably wasn’t rigorously sourced to start with” is plenty enough for a good blog post, as long as it is paired with a unique point of view. The hallucinations were never the limiting factor holding the llms back as bloggers.

unfortunately, kontext would probably not be annoyed at all about the fact that he has become the sort of wise sage-prophet that one projects one's own opinions onto, instead of "dude who kept posting pictures of the interior of his house that made it clear he was unfamiliar with the concept of a mop"

potentially controversial but i don't think "male sexuality is inherently predatory (and so if you don't want to be predatory, you're probably a girl) is a winning feminist take. i actually think it's exactly the opposite and we should really be avoiding the implication that predatory misogynistic behavior is biological and not social in nature

Buddy - your grandfather was probably able to find a job that would teach him what he needed to know in order to do the job.

If FoMoCo offered Promising Earnest Young Persons $120K/year - or even a lot less than that! - to be mechanics, with the promise that you'd provide the needed training, I have very little doubt that you'd fill all your vacancies pretty much immediately.

I'm sorry that society hasn't socialized the cost of providing you with an educated specialist labor force, but, y'know, I keep hearing all these great things about the free market.

Every single time there's one of these articles about big salaries in the trades, they invariably include the phrase "up to". Welders make up to $150K, Ford will pay mechanics up to 6 figures.

That's nice; now tell me what the actual salary for the entry-level position is, how many years of training I need to get licensed and/or join the union, and whether anybody is making your quoted salaries who doesn't outright own a local firm.

You post about so many cool recipes/things you're cooking. This is salient to me at the moment as I made a potato curry a few days ago that I first saw via your blog and it was really good (also heeded your tags and upped the heat significantly). You are definitely the person on here that most often posts stuff that makes me think damn that looks/sounds delicious.

Relatedly but more generally I really admire how you take on things and keep doing them consistently in the long-term like running and reviewing all the books you read.

Also, whenever I've read/watched anything that you have you always have good taste in favourite characters

Honestly my sense of what books are 'age-appropriate' for children to read at what ages was permanently doomed from the beginning (my dad reading the hobbit to my sister and I before bed and, having finished that, continuing directly on to Lord of the Rings. Which I consider an entirely good and correct thing for him to have done tbc).

Though if not before then then deciding to test if there was a limit beyond which adults would care about the subject of something I was reading and not just be happy it was a book in junior high probably did it. Not that the first few books of the Black Jewels series traumatized me or anything but the googling to understand some of the vocabulary did end up making most of public school sex ed pretty thoroughly superfluous by the time we got to it.
