Dean left Sam at the table, buried in research, retiring to his room in the bunker. Exhausted, he stripped down to his boxers, too tired to care about a shower, and crawled under the covers. He tossed and turned for hours, it was almost three in the morning when he finally managed to close his eyes. He hated the falling asleep part.
Sam was used to running in there in the middle of the night, gun drawn because Dean was screaming for him, for help, for his life. He didn’t know. How could he if he never fully remembered the nightmares?
Dean had fallen into a light sleep, deep enough to count as sleep but light enough to hear everything, including himself yelling. It wasn’t Castiel he was expecting to call out for this time, but when he woke himself up yelling his name, he wasn’t surprised either.
What surprised him was the man standing over him when he opened his eyes. “Dean? What’s wrong?” “N-nothing.” He sighed, not wanting to admit he had a nightmare. Cas furrowed his brows, his head tilting. Dean sighed. “Bad dream.” He mumbled, rubbing his eyes, pushing himself up.
“Have you been having these bad dreams often?”“No.” Dean lied again. “Yes.” Sam said at the same time, appearing in the doorway and slipping his gun back into his waistband.
“Cas why are you in here?” Sam asked, leaning against the door frame, smirking. “He called.” Cas said simply, as if Dean crying out for him was normal.
“I-I’m fine. Really. Both of you.” Dean pleaded. Sam nodded, not wanting to push the issue right now, turned to leave and shut the door behind him. Cas sat down on the edge of the bed, Dean sighed and reached for his hand, for comfort. Safety. Cas took it gently and squeezed. “Dean, what’s really going on?” “Just nightmares you know. Been through a lot. It’s nothing, I’m fine.”
Dean was so used to having to be okay that he felt like he was telling the truth to Cas. That he was fine. “So, you’re okay if I leave?” Cas asked, testing the waters. He didn’t want to leave, but he also couldn’t stay much longer. Not tonight at least, he was closing in on what they’d been hunting.
“I’m okay.” Dean said after a long, silent moment, playing with the ring on Cas’ finger. He’d given it to him a while ago, before they were…whatever they are now. “Okay.” Cas sighed, squeezing Dean’s hand one last time before getting up and leaving the room. He was so quiet he might as well have just vanished.
Dean flopped back over in bed, he’d been sweating from his nightmare and his skin felt tacky against the cotton sheets. “Thanks Cas.” He mumbled, wishing he would have stayed, would have curled up with him. Held him.
He closed his eyes tightly and let out a slow breath, trying to calm himself. Instead, he found himself in tears and shaking. He was tired of remembering Hell.
Instead of falling back asleep, Dean laid there awake and shaking. Exhausted. There was a knock on his door eventually and Sam opened it. “It’s morning Dean, come on…” He said softly. “Please no…I’m so tired.” Dean begged, pushing himself up.
“Maybe Cas can stay tonight.” Sam suggested, “but for now, we need to finish the research for this case.” “I…” Dean furrowed his brows and sighed, knowing he wasn’t going to win this battle. He sighed as he got up and pulled a shirt on, brushed his teeth, before meeting Sam at the table.
Dean groaned after hours of sifting through papers and maps. “I’m going to lay down, I’m seeing double.” “Dean, c’mon.” Sam countered and that was his breaking point. He got up angrily, the chair tipping over and papers flying everywhere as Dean swiped his hand through them.
“Dean…talk to me.” Sam pleaded, meeting Dean’s eyes. “No…I just…no Sam.” “Talk to me so I can help you.” “You can’t help me!” He snapped, turning to leave again.
Sam watched him storm off to his room, hearing him slam the door behind him. “Castiel please, help him.” Sam mumbled to himself, starting to pick up the stuff Dean had thrown.
Sam turned around and sighed, seeing Cas standing there. “How the hell do you do that?” Sam asked, startled. what?” “Just appear like that.” “Sam, I was just in the next room and neither of you were exactly quiet. Now, what’s wrong?” “He’s been having nightmares, on edge, not sleeping. Drinking too much. Please just get him to sleep.” Sam pleaded and Cas nodded and disappeared down the hall.
Cas pushed open the door to Dean’s room and shut it quietly behind him, doing his best to not startle him. He found Dean curled up in bed, crying, something he knew Dean didn’t do often. Or at all really.
Cas sat down on the bed and leaned back against the headboard. Dean rolled over and crawled in between his legs, his arms wrapping around his muscular thigh and his head resting in his lap like it was always meant to be there.
Cas’ hand ran through his hair and he felt Dean relax. Could see him relax into the touch. “What’s really going on Dean?” He asked softly, his hand slipping under his shirt to rub his back.
It was quiet for a moment before Dean let out a slow, steady breath. “Been having nightmares.” “About?” Cas asked quietly, still rubbing his back lightly. “Being in Hell. And…” he stopped, not sure he should admit the next part so readily.
Cas gave him a moment before asking, “And what babe?” Dean felt his skin get hot at the pet name. His vision blurred as hot tears streaked his face. “About losing you.” Dean choked out, squeezing around his thigh tighter, afraid to let go.
Cas pulled Dean up and into his lap, effortlessly, so that he was straddling him. Dean rested his head on his shoulder, nosing into the crook of his neck, as his arms wrapped around his body. “I’m not going anywhere Dean. It’s okay, alright? I’m here.” He kept his voice soft and low, pulling the blanket over them.
“Please just rest for me, okay?” Cas added gently and felt Dean nod slowly. He heard him yawn and felt him shift to get as close as possible. He kept his hand at a steady pace along his back.
“You came.” Dean finally said softly, sleepily. “You called.” Cas smiled down at him, kissing the top of his head.
“Now, close your eyes.” Cas said softly, but Dean was already snoring softly.
Sometimes I remember that Dean Winchester canonically has a gay man's heart. It was a deliberate choice. To give Dean the heart of a gay man. And it happened in season fucking ONE.
Castiel would pull the mom thing. And by mom thing I mean
(loved this, anon. thank you lol)
Established destiel movie nights are good and all but what will actually happen is that dean will put his head in Cas’s lap, Cas will start petting his hair and dean will fall asleep 5 minutes in to the movie. That guy has been surviving on four hours of sleep for the last thirty years, there is a lot of sleep debt to be paid.
Yes exactly.
guys I found the fem castiel
Was trying to make a joke about TV writing to my friend the other day and had to pause and go "...does the phrase 'surf dracula' mean anything to you?"
One of the most important critical texts of this century imo
image description: tweet by @/topherflorence, reading: back in the day if u did a tv show called surf dracula you'd see that fool surfing every week in new adventures but in the streaming era the entire 1st season gotta be a long ass flashback to how he got the surfboard until you finally get to see him surf for 5 min in the finale /end description
Hey idk who needs this but helpful reminder that "virgin blood" in any witchcraft shit that requires that means "virgin" in the same sense as "virgin hair" means hair that hasn't been dyed or processed in any way, natural in the default sense. So no, "virgin blood" doesn't mean blood from a virgin, just blood that hasn't been used for any other kind of witchy shit earlier.
Whether nor not someone has fucked before is completely irrelevant. Any act of fucking doesn't instantly make someone contaminated or un-magic any of their shit. You're just not supposed to re-use blood for blood magic. That's just not. Just do not. Like that's just weird who does that.
I think it’s strange you never knew
