romantic love is a government scam

Hello, if you are reaching out to me with donation requests or requests to share your fundraiser, here are a few quick things:

  • I do not have a credit card. Both Chuffed and GoFundMe fundraisers often require you to have a creditcard, sometimes even if there is a PayPal option. If this is the case for your fundraiser, I will not be able to donate.
  • I only share vetted fundraisers. My apologies to anyone with a non-vetted fundraiser, I know it is difficult to get vetted nowadays. However, I am not equipped to judge the legitimacy of fundraisers myself, so I rely on this vetting process.
  • If I get a lot of asks, I will spread them out over a period of days to avoid overwhelming people and hopefully increase the chance of people donating.
  • I try to keep up with the asks I get, but I may get tired/overwhelmed, which may mean I don't respond. Apologies for that.
  • I do not respond to mentions in the comments of an unrelated post.

If you are here to inform me all the Gaza fundraisers are scams: I have read the arguments and found them utterly unconvincing. All of the actual 'evidence' people use to argue against the validity of these fundraisers (non-Gazan organisers, large and perpetually shifting goals, multiple accounts, etc) are easily explainable if you've bothered to pay any kind of attention to how Gaza fundraising works. The other arguments (stock asks, asks with similar wording, similar names/stories, etc) boil down to nothing more than vibes, and are also easily explainable.

The vetting process for fundraisers is extensive. Arguments discrediting it fall apart if you know even the slightest bit about it, and realize that the prominent vetters for Gazan fundraisers have been on this site for years and years. The idea that these vetters are 'in league' with the scammers is nothing more than a racist conspiracy born out of annoyance at being asked for money.

If you don't trust a fundraiser, simply ignore it. If you wish to donate to grassroots kitchens/aid in Gaza rather than individual fundraisers, do so. If you only feel secure donating to established international orgs, that is your choice, but remember that none of that aid is getting into Gaza. There is no need to spread rumors of scams based on pretty much nothing but vibes and a lack of knowledge.

Although she’s a brief character I find her pretty interesting!

true and real abt romantic repulsion, i dont struggle with it but as a person on aspec i mostly treat romantic love in fiction as something not to be taken seriously. i felt deeply endeared to raging loops concept of adult romance. its so nice to see a character be sincerely loved and wanted and then just. them fucking it all up and losing that possible future together through their own actions which both push away and actively harm their love. its very, very good and i rarely see that being done by a female character instead for a man that is sure to be forgiven regardless of the crime

I do struggle with romance repulsion fairly seriously, including and often especially in fiction (and as you can imagine this makes being a VN fan ✨️a bit of a hassle✨️). The weird thing about Raging Loop's romances is that they just didn't feel romantic to me? Like I think they're pretty well-written, the character dynamics are compelling, and there's clear markers of romance in the relationship, but I just keep forgetting the relationships are romantic anyway. Super weird, no clue why that happened, but I mean I'll take it?

But yeah I super get what you mean! I love the amount of beautifully fucked up women Raging Loop gave me. I looooove Rikako self sabotaging her happiness to cling to her bloody desires, I love Haru effectively resurrecting a god because she can't cope with the trauma from her shitty society, and of course my dearest Chiemi blowing up her mental health with a shotgun. And that's not even mentioning Kaori "the only thing between me and a murderous breakdown are my two sons" Oribe and Meiko "I am four and killing is fine :D". Chiemi and Haruaki's dynamic is especially compelling to me because of the constant interplay of violence. Chiemi kills Haruaki like 70 times and then he kills her once and she's like 'that hurt my feelings :(' and it's treated with sympathy and respect. BIG fan.

Haruaki Fusaishi is the protagonist of all time. His name is 'alibi'. He got killed by his girlfriend like 80 different times. He's 90% lies. He can't lie for shit. He got killed by a million sheep. He has no conscience or sense of right and wrong. His number 1 hobby is fucking around and finding out. His go-to problem solver is the Buddha's Ash Rock song. He kinda sorta dated a god. His ex was raised in The Facility. He would've joined the big bad and ruled by her side as she destroyed Japan if people hadn't interrupted him. He died by the poop of a hundred million sheep. He's had tentacle sex. He became god so his girlfriend could kill it. He's a famous writer. He got pantsed once. He encouraged a teenager to become evil. He did a naked dance after murdering a different teenager. He quit his job to become a subsistance farmer. And most importantly:

[Image: Haruaki Fusaishi: I didn't mean that I would literally take you. I'm a feminist.]

He's a feminist.

I beat Raging Loop + its post game so have a mini review of the werewolf game timeloop VN

Pros:

  • Haruaki Fusaishi is one of the most compelling protags I've ever seen.
  • Characters are absolute bangers all around. The character writing in this VN is truly fantastic.
  • Its concept of 'God' is extremely unique and super interesting, delivered in some incredibly fascinating ways.
  • Its background magic worldbuilding is super cool and I'd love to know more about it.
  • EXTREMELY funny. Also very good at balancing its humor and its serious and its serious aspects. The whiplash effect this can create is clearly intentional and very entertaining to me.
  • Surprisingly normal about the fat guy.
  • Despite having the majority of its runtime involve romance plots it did not trigger the romance repulsion even once 👍

Cons:

  • Actual werewolf game plot sections were mostly boring as tar. I sincerely think this VN would've been 10 times better if it hadn't relied on standard werewolf game rules.
  • Did not so much jump the shark as it fucking jet ski'd over it, leaving its corpse bleeding in the water. AKA The resolutions to its mysteries were largely nonsensical.
  • Could we maybe stop having adults and minors date each other for like 5 seconds.
  • In general is kinda weird about man/woman relationships despite being pretty normal about its female characters.
  • Extremely callous about a number of serious topics, most prominently CSA/COCSA.
  • Pale skinned Japanese person with dreadlocks.

Conclusion: Heavily flawed but with some very strong writing in between the flaws. Also unfortunately its flavor of crazy is the exact kind that makes me kick my feet and giggle happily. What can I say I have a soft spot for batshit plots. I thoroughly enjoyed this VN.

Extremely funny things that have happened to me while playing Gnosia:

  • Stella and Chipie stepped forward as the Engineer on Day 2. Chipie immediately claimed Stella as human. With no AC Follower in play, Chipie was marked as a Definite Enemy and voted into cold sleep the same day.
  • I was the Engineer, and Comet fakeclaimed it alongside me. I scanned Comet and found out she was human, confirming her as the AC Follower. She proceeded to spend the next two days trying to convince everyone SQ was sus. SQ was Guard Duty.
  • Raqio actually made it to the late game of a loop, and proceeded to helpfully declare a bunch of people as Definite Human/Enemy. Because it was early in my first playthrough, however, I didn't actually understand how that skill worked. I thought it was mighty suspicious that Raqio was making so many definitive statements, and I promptly got them voted into cold sleep.
  • I got bodied so badly in a discussion that Yuriko called me a sad clown.

I've disabled reblogs on my rant about censorship in speech-to-text because too many people are being annoying, but I still have more to say on the topic so it's getting its own post now.

The key reason why many responses to the og post are so annoying is because they are missing the point. Now, I'll grant that it lacks context, since it was an off-the-cuff rant, so here it is: I was using the built-in STT function on my Windows laptop. I can't remember if I had my current laptop at that point so idk if I was using W10 or W11. Anyway, Windows has two ways of accessing STT. The one I was using was a scaled-down version that is purely for dictation; at the time, there was no way to turn off the profanity filter (although you can now). The other way to access STT in Windows is to use Voice Control, which allows you to control your machine with your voice and also has STT capability; for this, you can turn off the profanity filter, but it is (or was) on by default.

As for the point that so many people are missing: this was primarily a post expressing deep frustration that the needs of disabled people (or anyone who has to use STT) are secondary to the sensibilities of corporations. in my case, that happened to be Microsoft, but the point stands for any STT software that has the profanity filter on by default. Accessibility features should not restrict the user, especially not by preventing them from doing something that an abled user can do just fine. If you have to go hunting in settings or resort to forums or search engines to find out how to turn the filter off, that's a failure of accessibility because a person who can type physically doesn't need to do that.

Now, the profanity filter certainly has an arguable use-case. STT isn't perfect and sometimes it will interpret your words as something completely wrong, which might cause problems in certain professional settings. Ideally, though, the filter would be an opt-in feature rather than set as the default. But the mere existence of a profanity filter presents problems by itself: namely, who gets to decide which words are profane, and why are they choosing those words specifically? As illustrated in my original post, whoever set the profanity filter for Windows had decided that anatomically-correct terms for female genitals were profane (clitoris and clit got masked by asterixes and vagina nearly did, presumably because the filter would mask 'vag'), but 'penis' was just fine (although 'cock' wasn't). 'Nipples' is also masked. Do we think, perhaps, these choices are governed by the long-standing misogynistic framing of female anatomy as something inherently sexual? Even if that wasn't the reasoning, the end result certainly reinforces those beliefs.

The same problem occurs in auto-captions that censor swear words when the audio doesn't. YouTube is notorious for this. It's bad enough that they are sabotaging an accessibility feature, but worse still is that they have placed themselves in a position of power over any d/Deaf and HoH people watching: they now get to decide what we can understand in a video. It's especially galling because textphone workers and sign language interpreters are held to very strict standards re: translating exactly what is said, swears, slurs, slang and all.

Censorship in an accessibility feature also exists in the wider social context of disabled people being controlled and infantilised. Whether the designers of profanity filters intend this or not is irrelevant, because the end result, again, reinforces bigoted beliefs and enables harmful behaviour – in this case, the belief that disabled people must be "protected" from "dangerous" words or concepts / the normalisation of controlling disabled people. You don't need to look far to find this in action, either. Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) devices often aren't designed to allow their users to swear, use slang or discuss subjects like sex or their genitals. AAC-users are left at the mercy of others, who get to decide which words they can or cannot use, ultimately stripping them of freedom of self-expression and autonomy and increasing their vulnerability to abuse or exploitation.

This is from the blog of a speech and language pathologist (emphasis mine):

As a speech therapist, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve been asked by teachers to remove a taboo word from a student’s AAC device because it’s considered “inappropriate.”

To extend an analogy from that post: if that teacher taped a verbal, nondisabled child's mouth shut as punishment for using a specific word, there would be a (much-deserved!) uproar. It is unlikely that teacher would be able to keep their job. But they are perfectly comfortable asking for a disabled child's means of self-expression to be taken away. If that doesn't perfectly illustrate how normalised it is to control disabled people, I don't know what will.

Even if companies are not intentionally adding profanity filters to restrict what disabled people can do or say, the fact they have gotten away with it for so long speaks to the systemic oppression of disabled people. You can be sure that if something 99% of nondisabled people use had similar restrictions imposed upon it, there would have been a massive backlash and push for change – imagine if everyone's phone keyboards stopped you from typing swear words or slang. But because this is an issue that disproportionately affects disabled people, it has been a long, slow and difficult slog towards positive change.

Pixie so very grateful see other people talk about censorship of disabled people , especially in AAC devices , thank you !

did not know but also not surprised it also happen with speak to text and captions .

Pixies AAC device not even have the word “ censor “ , speech therapist had to add that word before Pixie could even talk about the censorship problem …

Is actually kind of . Terrifying … To think of how much power people like . Speech therapists Teachers caregivers family members parents Staff people . Have over disabled people’s self expression . Pixie have to just . Pretend . The censorship not actually happen or otherwise Pixie get really really upset upset upset panicky about it . And . Pixie not can live life like that .
