ELP posting again..I listened to Love Beach yesterday (which I thought for the longest time was called Love Beach Island) and if I’m remembering correctly this is the album that kind of flopped right??

I saw ppl criticizing the album cover itself and honestly I do get that, I don’t get prog rock vibes that much from the album cover, and if you showed it to me if I had zero prior knowledge of ELP, I would’ve thought it was a sappy lovey-dovey kind of album, do yk what I mean…Idk the name of the genre.. but I do like the album cover bc I think they look so pretty in it, especially Greg :3

Like look at them…AWW AWW AWW

For the music, I actually did like the songs, i wouldn’t say it was as good as their prior stuff but i still liked it. I personally wasn’t a fan of Memoirs of an Officer and a Gentleman tho, it just didn’t captivate me as much as the other songs did, and the first 11 minutes kind of bored me tbh. After that 11 minute period the instrumental did kind of hook me but idk, wasn’t a big fan. I think my favorites songs from the album would be All I Want is You and Love Beach

Okay bye 👋👋

Hi Hii hello! I’m still listening to ELP but I really want to know more about general info regarding the band, such as more about the members, I was wondering if you could give me an info dump on them?? :p

MEEE? REALLY!!! Ahhh I’m so excited for this, I will try hehe…. I’m not good at explaining so apologies if this is just me rambling on 😭 I’m not an expert in ELP but I can give u some info!

okay so Greg Lake…he started playing guitar when he was 12, he wrote the song “Lucky man” at the same age, it ended up on ELP’s first album. (It’s such a good song, how did he do that when he was TWELVE.) he joined king crimson in 1968, formed by mr fripp himself.. he played bass and sang lead vocals on their debut album (in the court of the crimson king-1969) and lead vocals on their second album in (In the wake of Poseidon 1970).

Greg didn’t really know what his role was during the second album, I think the members were being replaced n stuff but decided to sing on the album (even though he had left the band at that point). But the song “peace - an end” on that album is such a great display of Greg’s angelic vocals. I heavily recommend it!

Keith Emerson started playing piano when he was eight and was influenced more by jazz piano. He was in a bunch of bands until he formed The nice in 1967. That’s when his crazy stage antics started, the band was mostly focused on that because of the crazy noises he could produce from straight up abusing his hammond😭😭 Their music was very much… classical rock? Just a crazy combination of genre so it fit what they were playing 🙏 really good music though.

Carl Palmer started drumming when he was quite young and was in a few bands when he was a teenager. In 1969 a band called The crazy world of Arthur Brown needed a drummer during their tour and got Carl in to play. Arthur browns music (the lead singer+founder) is really good. his voice is amazing too. He’d wear a big helmet thing that would be on fire and he’d wear crazy face paint. Just fucking cool. There’s a few pictures of Carl with the band, he looks very silly :3

Carl became a permanent member in 1969 and left later that same year to form his band Atomic rooster with fellow Arthur brown member Vincent crane. I haven’t ever listened to/or know anything about atomic rooster but I’m pretty sure Carl left the band the same year they put their debut album out, 1970.

Greg and Keith met in 1969 when The nice were playing with King crimson. I believe they played together during a soundcheck and the music instantly clicked. The power of yaoi made it click... Trust me. They’d both been looking to leave their bands so after that Keith left The nice in 1970 and a month later Greg left king crimson.

Keith called Carl up after his manager (< I THINK) was like Yeah this guy is awesome.. u should try get him in the band🤞🤞. Pretty sure he joined in 1970. Greg on lead vocals and bass, Keith keyboard and wacky synths, Carl on drums/percussion (+ all his weird gadgets that are featured in that one rehearsal video😭) They put their debut album out in 1970!

Just altogether a very silly group of guys... You can ask about anything ofc!! I hope I explained well and gave you an answer to what you wanted! ❣️❣️ thank you for the ask sink! this took me a while to write it was fun <3<3
