Some of my sprite sheets from Codename: WhoD'nit, a murder mystery visual novel set in the Myst/D'ni universe that Eric talked about during Cyan's State of the Union presentation last weekend! Fingers crossed we can revisit this someday, it was real dear to both Harrison and myself.
Some of my concept art for Project: Anglerfish (the Myst game I was art directing back at Cyan) that was shared in Cyan's recent State of the Union presentation at Mysterium last week!
A lot of the appeal of this pitch was the idea of shifting, dynamic environmentsโvs. the more frozen worlds of previous Myst gamesโso a fair amount of our exploration was finding ways to pull that off with lighting, atmosphere, and some more... drastic measures.
The trailer for the Project: Anglerfish prototype, the Myst game I was art directing back at Cyan that got shared at Mysterium last week.
SUCH a lifelong dream to get to work on a new game set in the Myst universeโstill hope weโll get to see it through someday, but Iโm thrilled we can share the trailer at the very least. โฅ๏ธ๐
80โs Muscle Man life drawing session from last night with Ready/Sketch/Go, featuring the lovely Brandon Ryan!
Gettinโ in some real good practice drawing impressive deltoids and Nike high tops ๐ช๐ผโ๏ธ
The Riven half of the new trophy icons for the Classic PS1 re-release! My favourite world to draw, and super fun getting to draw some alternate universe Gehns for a couple of the bad endings.
(Also you can get a blanket with all of these on it at the Cyan store! It rules)
The re-release of the Classic PS1 versions of Myst and Riven required new trophies, which required new trophy icons, and so I got permission to get a little weird and illustrative with itโsuper fun getting to revisit this world with a little bit of Mignola mixed in.
(Also you can get a blanket with all of these on it at the Cyan store and, speaking from experience, it is extremely cozy)
Just got back from a week-long art intensive studying horse anatomy with Terryl Whitlatch out at New Masters Village in Mancos, CO! I've followed Terryl's work for over 20 years, and her passion and expertise is unmatchedโfeeling challenged, refreshed, and like I want to draw a bajillion horses.
The week was made up of a whole lot of classroom time, balanced with hands-on horse sessions and some fun creature/character exploration on the last dayโmy brain is completely fried, but I have ZERO regrets. Can't recommend the lovely team out at NMV enough. โฅ๏ธ
dumb little Klapollo idea I've had in the back of my head for forever, based off of that one scene at the end of School of Rock
(also omigod HAPPY TURNABOUT TRUMP DAY it is by complete coincidence that I posted this on the in-universe day of Apollo's first day in court)
I just beat the Riven Remake and I loved its feel and artistry. You and the crew did a great job on it! One thing I've never understood, though: how did you learn D'ni back in the 90's? I've never known how that conlang was shared in those days, and even after reading the novels I still have no idea how to use the language. I'd love to learn more about the setting beyond the books and games!
Aw gosh, thanks so much for the kind words! โฅ๏ธ
SO there were some fan-made online resources (Kh'reestrehfah's D'ni Dictionary has been around since the year 2000, amazingly), and most importantly for me there was a D'ni language & grammar primer in the From Myst to Riven art book:
Along with that there were scattered online resources from Cyan themselves, or RAWA (Richard Watson, game designer at Cyan back in the day) would discuss the language and release new materials in CyanChat or the Riven Lyst, the ancient chatrooms/mailing lists for the fandom at the time.
If you want to learn the D'ni conlang nowadays, there are tons of resources out there: a good starting point would be the Guild of Archivists' pages on D'ni language and grammar, and there's a linguistics channel in the official Cyan Discord where you can ask pretty much anything and everything and someone'll point you in the right direction.
Hope that's helpful! ๐๐โ๏ธ
Made a custom Decker vs. Dracula VHS cover for the On Cinema show in LAโstarted as a quick screenshot paintover for a goof and then it RAPIDLY got away from me! super fun trying to ape classic movie posters for this one ๐
And here are the original screenshots vs. the final, for any interested parties! Really tried to amp up the Struzan vibes:
Sometimes it is fun to just make a dumb little thing ๐๐
