Time for a pinned post

I’m Shaun I’ve had this tumblr for a while but I’m cleaning it up and mostly just using it to store artwork for now. I will occasionally post on here to share more of my artwork, give updates, or talk about projects I’m part of. Probably wont be using it for much else.

I’m a professional concept artist and Illustrator. You may have come across some of my work. I’ve designed Critical Role’s current set they film on, have my art in the Tales of Xadia: The Dragon Prince RPG, worked on various smaller tabletop games, and I have designed some stuff for theme parks.

When I was telling my brother about my crisis re: do fungrils have bones he was like 'you should ask Aabria, she should probably know.' And like yes, but then I was like, 'oof maybe I should finish watching the menagerie content and see if they already answered that question for Sweetpea.'

And that's why I remembered to subscribe to Beacon.tv. (and then forgot to watch because I'm so stressed with my move that I had to watch British people charmingly do and solve murders)

It's fun that I have an answer to this because my 2nd playtest (back when Daggerheart was Project: Dawn) character was a lil boneless nugget of a fungril named Jeffrey Bezos. He loved collecting other people's bones to give to his Simiah buddy.

Is that cannon? NO IDEA. But the fungril network made a dial up tone so fidelity was not a priority.

I'm the lead concept artist and I've come up with and added lots of little details for all the ancestries so here's my two cents. Fungril look humanoid and are bipedal so it would make sense to assume they're vertebrates and have bones.

BUT Fungril are weird and so I think they should have something just as weird like a hydrostatic skeleton, which is what octopi and jellyfish have. No bones its just contractions to move around. Though they would also probably have some some type of cartilage throughout areas of their body for rigidity that helps them stand upright and not flop around all the time (some fungril can be floppy and soft)

Not really a canon answer though. The canon answer is whatever you want them to be. Maybe fungril do have bones. That is to say the bones of whatever dead person they grew their body around. Or they're just water inside and the water gets pumped around to move the limbs like a water balloon. Fungril are weird. The weirder the better with those little guys.

More art I've been making for Daggerheart is being shared through "Daggeheart Drops". Small additional information and art for various items, adversaries, and encounters that are going to be periodically released over time while the game is in development!

This Daggerhear Drop is for the Flickerfly. An insectoid adversary that has razor sharp wings that are often used in the creation of special weaponry.

Get the full information and stat blocks for both the Adult and Juvenile Flickerfly on the Daggerheart Blog

Got an early copy of the Candela Obscura Core Rulebook!

Excited to show off the art I made for it and the setting of Newfaire and Oldfaire. Can't wait for you all to see the creepy stuff everyone has put into this rulebook.

This is going to be fun scary

Book is coming out Nov 14. Be sure to check with your local game stores to make sure you can get a copy day of!

I was contact by Paizo a little while ago to make some maps for their most recent book Lost Omens: Highhelm! I did the maps for the different layers of Highhelm and the surrounding area.

The book has a lot of information on the dwarf metropolis and would make a good setting for any ttrpg

I’m going to assume that at this point you’ve all seen Critical Role’s new show Candela Obscura and at least skimmed through the Quickstart Guide (you have done all that riiiight??) So I wanted to compile all the things I’ve done that have been shown so far. Its long so read below the line!

I’m going to try to avoid spoilers. So feel free to read without worry. I’m also going to try and avoid breaking any NDA like a good professional. So I will not be doing some deep dive behind the scenes thing. Only visuals that have already been publicly shared are going to be on here

Since it sounds like you're in a position to know- were the costumes rentals off the rack, or custom made from the players designs, or a combo, or...?

(Once and Future Theatre Person- design and production things are my jam! Thanks!)

I am OBSESSED with Critical Role's use of practical set pieces. It's an Internet streaming actual play ttrpg that creates environments more real and tangible than any Marvel movie. This clock piece behind Matt is GORGEOUS and I've spent this whole time mesmerized. They invest in having artisans do what they do best and end up with pieces of technological art. It's so fucking cool.

Hi I did the concepts for the Candela Obscura set! Both the main set and the small Taliesin enclosure! (Also the Tavern sets) and FlipThisBitch is the group that built the sets! They came out great!

Critical Role actually gives me a lot of creative control over the set concepts. They definitely trusts their creatives to go all in!
