It is frequently semi-seriously joked that it would be good if House MD existed in real life
- When people say this, they seem to be thinking of a version of the show with all the parts where House calls his patients fakers/liars/drugseekers cut out
- They also seem to be overlooking the fact that House's central motivation in every case is not preserving the wellbeing of the patient, but to be correct, and in service of being correct will let patients be seriously harmed, coerce them into receiving unwanted medical care, etc
- But none of that matters because the central fantasy of House MD is one where every mysterious illness is curable, and no one is ever told something like "it is medically impossible to know what you have" or "you will have to endure boring restrictive lifestyle changes for the rest of your life"
- You don't wish there was a real doctor that acted like House, you wish that there was a real doctor who acted like that and who was narratively guaranteed to be right to do so, and would come to a perfect solution to your problem
