Scrupulosity Comics

@scrupulosity-comics

comics about the wee evil monk what lives in me head

I don’t like mixing this blog with my personal life too much but also I’ve been pretty humbled and lost a lot of pride this year—I haven’t had a lot of time to make comics. My partner is very sick and disabled with no income and treatment bills have been swiftly draining both our savings. So many people have already been exceptionally generous and I think it’s saved my partner’s life, but our need continues. Recovery sure isn’t linear, but it seems to be slowly happening, and I want more than anything to continue making that possible.

realized I need a business card for a craft market I’m working at next month and I’m really really pleased with this design… I guess the relevant information can go on the back since there’s no fitting it on the banner

me: I think my Business Card is so cool and I am really excited about it as a goofy little piece of art

Bart: you know who else is obsessed with his business card

me: Patrick Bateman yeah

Bart: Patri-hey aren't you upset with yourself

me: because I made a business card I am going to kill people with an axe

Bart: I... well... hey, you're making it sound stupid on purpose

me: I know just which coworker I'll start with

But in mini form 😋😋 and i like your comics a lot. As a fellow ocd haver its very nice to see someone who has gone through similar things as me. Ok have a good day!

omg cute… longhorn and rainbow frog, nature’s natural couple

forgive me posting some of my non-comics art but I’ve been framing things this week and it’s been really fun

title of this is just ‘lesbian sex’

lot of terfs have been reblogging this so I may as well publicly state that the woman on the right is modeled with permission after my transfemme friend. if you relate to it as strongly as many of you claim in the tags I urge you to reflect upon that with empathy and compassion about the depth of experiences you truly do share with trans women.

otherwise fuck off I guess. my art is not fuel for your hatred.

My partner became very, very sick with a mast cell disorder early this year and it’s been incredibly scary and hard on us both, but it’s also meant that I just haven’t had the time or energy to worry about a lot of the things that normally tear my brain to shreds. Thus: more comics about the hazards of love, fewer comics about brain worms.

as someone who also has ocd your not wanting to profit of your ocd is almost definitely due to your ocd

Well. Probably.

But also, consider: I’m a white and relatively privileged person whose OCD frequently centers around social justice topics. Profiting monetarily off of comedic art about it could theoretically be said to be making light of white guilt, or of pathologizing prosocial collectivist impulses. It’s one thing to make comics about it—there are certainly worse coping mechanisms, and some of my intrusive thoughts are definitely useless and absurd—but I don’t want to like. Commodify and profit from my own resistance to social justice.

Edit: and of course maybe I’m wrong and this is me being irrational! But it’s not like I make enough sales that a 20% margin would be a lot of money, and I’d likely just end up spending any profits trying to relieve my guilt anyway.

Yeah, not every aspect of a personality disorder needs to be fought or resisted, and not everything someone with a personality disorder does is because of the personality disorder.

Also, let’s be real. It’s a goofy lineart doodle I did on a lunch break—not exactly hours of effort and creativity to be compensated for. I’m not the one making the shirt… a 20% margin is probably larger than the individual who operated the machines to assemble it probably made.

I saw a meme once that pointed out that an experienced artist could draw something much swifter and with less effort than a new artist. at the time this was comforting becuase i felt that I was taking forever to draw anything worth looking at and wasn't sure that my effort was worthwhile.

but now I see another side to it: in the age of mechanically generated images, what is the value of drawing at any speed when a machine can crank out some bell-curved goop in seconds? If the meaning of "effort" and "creativity" is baked by computers why bother drawing at all?

I think the answer is that an experienced artist has their lifetime of drawing. the effort isnt visible from some nice quick drawing, but from everything they did to reach that point.

art isn't a object, it's an experience. creativity isn't a talent, it's a muscle.

it's about the subtle ways we represent the world becuase of the way we have trained our eye to see it and our hand to picture it. your art is an emblem of what it means to be creative because it comes from your vision of the world. becuase it is born from the thousands of hours living and training and experiencing, even subconsciously— to form an idea of "goofy" and derive a style and modus operandi. Becuase it is a holy fragment of your life: your lunch break.

Just to be clear, this was in response to selling my art on Redbubble tshirts. I’ve sold art at craft fairs and done commissions a couple of times but I think that is somewhat different from the dropshipping ballgame where I am not involved in the production in any way.

both is good

by the way these is what we made:

my partner is in fact not as kawaii as this post makes it seem and has a heart just as full of anger and hatred as my own. lest any of you get the wrong idea.

“I just didn’t want you to feel kind of objectified. Unless feeling kind of objectified is hot to you. In which case then maybe it’s okay.”

me: [cooking and cleaning and managing household affairs for my nonbinary disabled jewish lesbian lover]

Bart: uh oh… you’re enjoying this… like some kind of… trad-wife…

Hi! I am writing down "Mission: DYKE THIS PLACE UP!!!!!" as a quote I would like to paint for myself, and I was wondering what the best way to attribute it would be? Like, - Scrupulosity Comics, or would you prefer I use your name? And if name, what's your name? Thanks!

you don’t have to attribute it at all
