alrighty! nobody ought to be able to stumble upon this little guy yet, but this'll be where my cool new sampler bot will go after I uhhhhhhh finish coding it

will use this space for testing once i get something properly testable (🤞🤞🤞)

update update update: the bot is, most certainly, live! Still haven't written an intro post, but here's the most common three questions:

  • Does it take requests?
  • Yeah, sometimes! Mention @samplerbot in a reblog or a comment on a post, and it may get samplerified. No promises, though.
  • Can I stitch these?
  • Yeah for sure! Check the pattern repository for PDFs-- in color, in black-and-white, and for Pattern Keeper. PDFs get made as I (the dev, not the bot) have time, so usually around every other week or three.
  • Is this like an GenAI thing?
  • Not on your life! It's all handmade borders (mostly either by me or adapted from the Antique Pattern Library) and handwritten code. Fonts are credited, too-- they're all either freeware, donationware, open source, et cetera, and are being used within the limits of their specific licenses. god bless dafont user Jeti in particular, they've made some bangers.

Another batch of samplers is up! And I'm already excited for the next batch-- I'm quite happy with the last two updates to Samplerbot, and I think the upcoming samplers are gonna be real pretty. :)

As a stitcher, working on Samplerbot has been good for my artistic instincts-- especially when it comes to being more adventurous with fabrics! I typically stick to white and black and coffee-dyed, but now I am thinking I might like to find a deep red... or another jewel tone, perhaps...

The temporary pause is over! Samplerbot is up and samplering again, and all the requests I saw in the notes have been queued up along with its regular posts.

Today's update has a couple parts to it: first, four new borders have been added; second, I've made it easier (on my end) to test new borders, new fonts, and new styles of sampler in bulk, and to tweak all those things if they don't look right at first; and finally, Samplerbot has a new style of sampler: Lasagna Samplers!

The lasagna samplers are inspired by Elizabeth Holland's sampler from 1737 (Samplerbot's 'border 66' was adapted from her work, too!). Along with a regular border, lasagna samplers have decorative dividers in-between the lines of text (the lasagna 'noodles', you could call them).

I'm currently working on making it so every existing border could make a lasagna sampler, but since Samplerbot just passed 150 borders (!🥳) it'll probably take me a while.

Also, not new, but I'm very happy with how the new line spacing function is working. I think this next batch of samplers is going to be very lovely!

samplerbot is on a temporary pause for the week!

I have an update in progress that I think is going to be wicked cool, but it involved tweaking all the existing borders (and ironing out a few newly-added wrinkles in border construction)

If I get it working by the end of the week, expect to see a newfangled sampler style! And if I don't, I'll wake it back up anyway and have it continue making some of the current sort while I keep working on it. :)
