I have so many questions about Moonshadow. Here is my primary point of confusion - my understanding of a sugar baby relationship is that a wealthy person gets sex and companionship in exchange for gifts/an allowance/etc. There doesn't seem to be any monetary exchange and Key is having to put in a whole lot of work to try to convince Chan to have sex with her or even spend time with her.

It looks less like a sugar baby situation and more like an unequal situationship between a very prickly grump who can barely stand an insanely hot woman who is into that for some reason.

Watchlist (Week of August 9)

Currently Airing:

AI Girl [7/7] - It's over! The human and the robot lived happily ever after! A wild and unexpected ride. Was I fully on the GenAi ship? No. Was I entertained? Solidly.

Be My Player Two [5/10] - I wasn't planning on watching this, but the Tumblr GIFs got me. Then I ended up binging it in one sitting. I thought I wouldn't like this because I have never played a video game in my life but I was supremely entertained. Very funny, very sweet, very watchable.

Don't Be Too Emotional [8/12] - This series in a nutshell- Big Jane: "Do you think I'm a psycho?" Little Jane: "Yes ✨💖😍✨💖😍✨💖😍"

The Edge of Horizon [9/11] - Shocked that Vasin sold the palace to keep Chat out of jail. Less shocked that he somehow blamed the Khana Ratsadon for his son embezzling 200,000 baht when he should blame himself for instating his idiot son in the treasury (which was the kind of thing that brought on the rebellion in the first place).

Knot [7/12] - Why did they make it look like we were getting a Naphitch/Sangnuea storyline and then not follow through?

Love Destiny [5/10] - This isn't exactly ground-breaking television, but I continue to be entertained.

Moonshadow [1/10] - I'm withholding my judgment for now - this doesn't seem like the kind of show I usually like, but everyone is very pretty. The preview makes it look like there’s an Emi/Film storyline coming our way but I was desperately hoping for Bonnie/Film.

Unlucky Bae [2/10] - This show is very self-aware of its genre - it's chucking BL tropes at us left and right. That being said, I am having a good time watching it, and I did appreciate the little nod to safer sex practices this episode (although the idea of Rin being in a longterm relationships in college and not having sex is a little suspect).

Your Third [3/12] - Fun! Silly! Campy! Is Mark/Thee going to be the villain?

Also watching:

The Cursed Love [8/8] - I came for Ongsa Theethuch, I stayed for the Avatar the Last Airbender fanfiction. This was unhinged in all the silliest ways but had a stupid ending.

That restricted room Big Jane doesn't want Little Jane to go into? That's totally his shrine to Little Jane complete with all the photographs he bought years ago.

Literally! At this point, I wouldn't even be surprised if there was a statue of Little Jane, surrounded by those photographs, with that key necklace around its neck or something! 😂

Omg. Stop. I was just joking

Police In Love, starring YinWar premieres September 12th.

“Inspector Thiartha's mother gives him an ultimatum. To counteract his bad luck, he'll have to marry someone born Monday, the thirteenth of October. As if that weren't hard enough, their first and last names must contain the Thai consonant ro ruea. Turns out that his junior, Police Senior Sergeant Major Mangkorn, was born on exactly that day, name as prescribed, perfect to the last item.”

ACAB, but if I can enjoy Brooklyn 99, I can definitely enjoy YinWar + Jojo Tichakorn. I've never looked forward to copaganda with so much enthusiasm.

Watchlist (Week of August 3)

Currently Airing:

AI Girl [6/7] - I love how unhinged this show is, but I have a hard time being fully invested in the GenAi relationship. It's less that Ai is a robot and more that she's a sexy baby/Born Sexy Yesterday robot and that Irene is so much hotter.

Don't Be Too Emotional [7/12] - My favorite part of Jane Patrick's character growth is that he understands that their breakup was necessary because he created a dynamic in which Little Jane both couldn't trust him and couldn't be happy.

Duty First, Kiss Later [2/10] - Look at me watching a JBL! I love love love this. It's sooooo campy [affectionate].

The Edge of Horizon [8/11] - My poor babies, they're both so sad. I did really enjoy the political content in this week's episode.

Knot [6/12] - I'm not trying to yuck anyone's yum, but mpreg is definitely not for me. That being said, I am very interested in the loss of bodily autonomy themes, including the fairly sinister idea of the entire household thinking Phatsa is pregnant when he doesn't even know that's a possibility. I have never wanted kids and have always thought of pregnancy as a kind of terrifying body horror, which maybe explains both my ick at the idea of mpreg and my interest in this storyline.

Love Destiny [4/10] - This isn't exactly ground-breaking television, but I continue to be entertained.

Also watching:

Ayaka is in Love with Hiroko! [8/8] - I have ventured outside of Thailand in search of GLs and oh man was this one made for me. A romcom about a reformed lesbian lothario who has become a Useless Lesbian™️ in the face of a cute, younger femme who has an obvious crush on her? This was fun!

The Cursed Love [7/8] - I came for Ongsa Theethuch, I stayed for the Avatar the Last Airbender Fanfiction. This is unhinged in all the silliest ways.

Spare Me Your Mercy [8/8] - I enjoyed the first half of this. Unfortunately, I found the conclusion of this show deeply unsatisfying. Also, the fact that they had one of the characters experience a "cannabis overdose" that left him comatose for days was a little hard to swallow.

The Trainee [12/12] - A delight!!! I'm glad I went into it knowing it was more of an ensemble workplace comedy than a BL. I found this show absolutely charming, even if it centered an ethically dubious relationship between a college-student intern and his grown-ass boss.
