hello! qin mo here. this is my alien stage sideblog.

i'm still pretty new to this series and to this fandom, so my understandings of the characters is not the deepest. i'll probably end up posting some questions that to you guys seem obvious. sorry about that!

commonly used tags:

#yap - my own text posts

#my polls - my own polls

i'll do my best to tag each character properly.

please enjoy your stay!

hyuna is so interesting to me. in contrast to mizi, who sees the faults in sua but blatantly ignores them to keep up their little paradise of love, safe from the impending doom of the future, hyuna is forced to grapple with the pain of loving luka, and in turn, cannot forgive him for it and refuses to acknowledge that side of herself.

i feel like hyuna’s desperation for the rebellion is mainly rooted in a deep desire to keep a family that she once lost. isaac and dewey are her closest friends, her companions, and in choosing to not save the people on stage, she is trying to run away from the fear that once again, the society she is from will tear her family apart.

as she cannot forgive what luka has done to her, as he has traumatized her for years to come, even in the rebellion, part of herself cannot forgive herself, for still subconsciously loving him, as it feels like not only a disrespect to herself, but her little brother as well.

this is why hyuna copes through alcohol and partying for others, because i believe that a part of herself feels that she cannot open herself up to others again, or she will be hurt again, and still begrudgingly care about them.

i love her so much, because even in spite of all of this, her social and caring personality is still there. she wants to guide others to a path of safety, and give others the life that she feels she might never achieve. despite all of her guilt, she is still one of the most caring and courageous individuals in alien stage.

also look at how cute she is as a baby, i know she was a lil sweetheart in anakt 😭<3 oh hyuna you deserve the world

yknow that one tumblr post about two friends who’d just beat the shit out of each other because that was their default emotional response and was better than taking it out on anyone else obviously

if mizi and ivan weren’t just faking 99.9% of the time that could’ve been them

Would Luka kill 5000 randomly selected segyein for no reward if he would certainly get away with it?

consider the following scenario:

  • one day postcanon, luka is summoned by a demon into a white room.
  • the white room contains only two buttons - a blue button and a red button - and the demon itself.
  • the demon tells luka that, if he pushes the blue button, he will be returned to where and when he was summoned from, with zero consequence.
  • the demon tells luka that, if she pushes the red button, then 5000 randomly selected segyein will die on the spot. afterwards, luka will be returned to where and when he was summoned from, with zero consequence.
  • no information is available about these unlucky segyein: everything ranging from their socioeconomic status, their age, whether they own any human pets, their opinions on alien stage, and so on, will be unknown. furthermore, these 5000 segyein will be selected from the entire population of segyein in existence: anyone from an age range of newborn to on their deathbed can be chosen, as can anyone from anywhere in any of the planets the segyein inhabit, regardless of whether or not they've ever seen a human before, and so on.
  • if mizi pushes the red button, no one except for luka himself will ever know what caused those 5000 segyein to die, or who was responsible.

in summary:

  • blue button: go home immediately
  • red button: kill 5000 randomly selected segyein without consequence or reward, and then go home

ivan begins the cover with till's part in a voice that is soft and docile, conceding itself to mizi in a duet rather than challenging her in competition. this becomes pronounced when you juxtapose his vocals with till's desperate mania in the original version. ivan's silouhette depicts him in luka's light-blue backless outfit. ivan faces left.

mizi is facing right, opposite to ivan, and is cast in green, veering yellow. her vocals are low, strong, and husky, and she assumes luka's verses & lines. her silouette has her in till's finale outfit.

the image for ivanmizi's blink gone cover encaptulates their relationship. luka dominates till while staring at him dead-on, exploiting his distress and instability, ivan and mizi stand in proximity, but look off in opposite directions. they perform for others (the out-of-sight audience), but not for each other; they gain and lose nothing by engaging with each other's personas. they participate in a competition of exploitation (blink gone being a pivotal moment in the series, where the competition culminates in luka's victory), but their vocals lack the growls of lukatill's power struggle. mizi is cast in shadow, and she is outlined in green—her feminimity does not benefit ivan, nor is he interested in it. this allows her to be some modicum of "honest" with him, thus she is not her signature pink, but instead, the color of her eyes.

my personal hc is that ivan’s best dreams are him crawling into till’s veins and ceasing to exist and ivan’s worst nightmares are actually having sex with till. does that make sense

this was brought about by my own meta post abt ivan’s bday art actually, bc the karaoke scene in round 6 strongly implies that they were sexually assaulted, but where till fights back ivan just accepts it. which has SO many interesting implications, but it also got me thinking like… we know ivan has canonically had r18 thoughts about till before, and he was the one who found till after the karaoke scene in round 6, so i can’t help but wonder… given how little they know about human sexuality, i think ivan’s r18 fantasies would actually be his nightmares.

he already thinks of himself and his feelings as twisted and wrong, and while we might extrapolate that to place it in the context of the “predatory gay man” trope and deconstructing that, in and of itself ivan doesn’t think his feelings are wrong because he’s attracted to men. he thinks they’re wrong because they’re intense, obsessive and possessive, nothing like how his peers show their affection. and him having r18 fantasies would only reinforce that.

and so given the karaoke scene and all its disturbing implications, i wonder if, in ivan’s eyes, having those r18 fantasies would make him no better than a segyein. after all, that’s probably their only knowledge/experience of sexual encounters. as far as we know, they seem to understand human sexuality only on a biological level (they don’t know what kissing means, and the true face comic where the guy says men and women can’t be friends bc it leads to mating).

which is why i think that ivan’s worst nightmares would be actually having sex with till. who tops/bottoms is irrelevant here, it’s just the act of touching him in that manner that makes it so disturbing for him.

so then his best dreams are crawling into till’s veins and ceasing to exist/anything along that vein (ha) because well. paratise exists. i don’t think i need to explain further

one aspect of the world mizisua create is the night. we are told that mizisua used to stargaze together, occasionally falling asleep under the night sky. with less eyes on them and each other's warmth for comfort, the night became a place for them as they searched for pinpricks of light in the dark - hope in the abyss.

to comfort them both, this fantasy of theirs becomes more obviously childish as their world grows harsher around them, and as they themselves grow up. no longer do they look at the real stars in the real sky, instead they rely on a projection of stars on the wall - the blue night in the splendid lighting.

where even this is insufficient, mizisua are shown to be dozing off during the day, desperate to escape reality and return to a dream. the dream for them is something that stops the world around them - where even time is asleep.

but they both know that it can't last forever, seen by the way they grow more unstable as danger approaches. but while mizi breaks through this illusion on multiple occasions to reflect this instability, all sua does is cling to it harder, working to create that perfect show on the stage that they've dreamed of for so long. after all, mizi is her dream, and it won't disappear as long as mizi is alive.

the night is darkness, it's its own separate world, and it's their dream. for sua, born on the longest night, what is death but the longest sleep, the longest dream?

would either ivan or luka die to save humanity?

consider the following scenario:

one day before the beginning of the 50th alien stage competition, a genie summons both ivan and luka into a white room and offers both of them the following deal:

  • if exactly 1 person between ivan and luka agrees to die instantly, then, upon the conclusion of the 50th alien stage competition, all humans in existence will be instantaneously teleported into the survivable planets of a star system unreachable by the segyein. this includes the person who was not chosen to die.
  • all planets within this star system will be comfortably survivable for humans, and will be equipped with the technology and resources necessary for the rebuilding of human civilization without any segyein.
  • if either ivan or luka takes this deal, then their death will be instantaneous and painless.
  • in order for either ivan or luka to take this deal, both of them must verbally agree with both each other and with the genie on who between them should die.
  • ivan and luka can talk to each other. in fact, because there is no furniture in the white room, they cannot avoid each other.
  • ivan and luka must come to a decision within 24 hours. if they are unable to decide who between them should die to save humanity, then they will be returned to the exact when and where they were taken from, and no change will come to the world.

sua and hyuna vs. prisoner's dilemma

consider the following scenario: one day before the start of the 50th alien stage competition, the human rebels rescue everyone. thus, everyone survives and joins the rebels. some time later, an ideological conflict within the rebellion causes a splinter faction to leave, declaring enmity on the main rebellion. all of the named characters stay with the main rebellion. some time later, sua and hyuna are captured by the splinter faction.

sua and hyuna are imprisoned separate rooms with no means of communication, and then both offered the following deal:

  • you can choose to either Sacrifice or Not Sacrifice the other party.
  • you know the other party is being given the same deal as you.
  • you will be given no knowledge of what the other party chose until you make your choice.

the outcomes of each choice are as thus:

  • if you chose Not Sacrifice and the other party chose Not Sacrifice as well, then you both will be jailed for 1 year.
  • if you chose Not Sacrifice and the other party chose Sacrifice, then you will be jailed for 3 years, while the other party will go free.
  • if you chose Sacrifice and the other party chose Not Sacrifice, then you will go free, while the other party will be jailed for 3 years.
  • if you both chose Sacrifice, then you both will be jailed for 2 years.
