do think it was the best choice—not a good choice, but the best available one—to keep Helaena wed to Aegon. I don’t think she would have handled being married away from home to a strange lord very well. Being wed to her brother and staying close to her mother was, in some way, a mercy, especially for a princess with a fragile mind who was both a dreamer and clearly neurodivergent. I know people will disagree with this take, but it’s what I think.
