A lot of art of characters fighting against fascism is being made and it’s awesome to see! Anyone saying they wouldn’t do that don’t understand the characters at all, because they’ve all had to go up against authoritarians of some kind or another.

hot take: the relationship between Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader and Sheev Palpatine is one of the most hideously abusive relationships ever realized in fiction, and the effect Palpatine’s abuse had on Anakin/Darth Vader is criminally overlooked in 99% of Star Wars critical analyses.
It’s also probably the most substantial depiction of grooming I’ve ever seen in the PG-13 action/sci-fi blockbuster genre.
Anyone interested in this topic may appreciate this post and the full essay it quotes. Here’s an excerpt from my own commentary on it:
The true nature and extent of Sidious’ influence on Anakin/Vader is something that is still so often overlooked, both in fandom and, sadly, even in supposed additions to ‘canon’. The idea that one such as Vader could be a victim at all, let alone a victim of such a heinous level of spiritual abuse, perhaps does not even occur to those who cannot see beyond this character’s tragic flaws and dark deeds. But the story establishes him as such, as well as making it clear that his existence as ‘Vader’ is one of suffering and severe psychological and physical torture (the maimed-Anakin’s imprisonment in the Vader suit can be interpreted as yet another example of his perpetual torment at the hands of Sidious). The tendency to put the onus for everything that occurs in RotS and onward entirely on Anakin/Vader ignores the elaborate, decades-long machinations that Sidious put in place, not only to groom Anakin into doing his bidding, but also to ensnare nearly the entire Jedi Order and bring about the downfall of the Republic. In many respects, one former child-slave scarcely stood a chance in the face of such, well, insidious evil. Anakin is portrayed in a way that shows he is at least as much ‘collateral’ as he is catalyst. And indeed, George Lucas even said that, with regards to the Prequels, he was drawn to “the idea that the person you thought was the villain…is really the victim.”
So, I’m gratified to see such an insightful piece—it sums up a lot of my own feelings and is one of the many reasons why I’ve never been able to relate to the mainstream pop-culture view of ‘Vader’ that revolves around and glorifies his villain status. Whenever I encounter it, I can’t help but feel compelled to point out that Anakin/Vader is also depicted, in Lucas’ canon at least, as a life-long victim of abuse, imprisoned in a state of perpetual torment, regret, and suffering. I’m far more interested in the persona of ‘Vader’ when viewed in this light, rather than as an oversimplified 'bad-ass’ villain.

every time a word that is a real and actual word and is spelled correctly gets auto-corrected to a different, more common word, a tech company manager should be shot in the back of the head

your job maybe, MAYBE is to correct obvious misspellings. if i write a word correctly and you change it, without asking me, to some other word you assume i must have meant because that word is used more often — and i am completely, deadly sincere about this — someone should die.
