if there were two girls on the moon and one kissed the other warmly and tenderly would that be beautiful or what

so fond of how nanami packed not only a snail but 2 backup animals as well, in case the snail wasn’t enough. she spent all night catching the garter snake out of the wild too. remember nanami as a kid all scuffed up and covered in dirt with a kitten like she’d just chased it through the garden, only to be reprimanded for bringing something so filthy into the house. nanami kiryuu is the weirdo that keeps a snail in her bookbag. she tries to frame anthy this way because she perceives this behavior - these weird little animals - as something that society will cruelly ostracize you for. you kind of see nanami fear she’s irrevocably associated with these ‘weird’ creatures too - the pests touga and anthy were trying to kill, or the fly in the swarm, or the various egg-laying animals. the prank could potentially be pot calling the kettle black as always with those two. but the thing is that nanami’s prank doesn’t actually fail because anthy counters them – anthy makes herself seem even weirder than nanami intended. it doesn’t achieve its desired effect because utena and miki don’t care. they don’t care if anthy keeps a snail in her pencil box, or 100 snails in her pencil box. they might still think it’s weird, as utena does, but that’s not the conditional thing that ruins their friendship and turns them against her. it’s not all a careful performance, where a single slip-up or nonconformity condemns you - the way nanami perceives it. also, i think it’s funny that despite nanami’s outward disdain for utena she always includes utena as one of the judgmental figures to impress in her mental scenarios.
