Monstrous Productions - audio fiction for the strange at heart

Welcome to the Tumblr home of Monstrous Productions, an audio fiction production team based in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

We have two shows under our belt so far - the now complete Monstrous Agonies, and Travelling Light which is currently on hiatus between Seasons 1 and 2. We're also currently hard at work on our new show, The Lion and the Adder, due to release in Autumn 2026.

Monstrous Agonies captured the weekly advice segment of the UK's only dedicated radio service for people of the night and members of the creature community. Over 100+ episodes, it answered questions and offered advice on everything from werewolf boyfriends in the doghouse to fitting in as the new ghoul at work. You can find a full, searchable database of letters, tagged with relevant keywords, on our website.

Travelling Light launched in November 2023. It's an epistolary science fantasy that follows the Traveller as they journey through the galaxy, writing letters home and gathering stories for the community archives. There are two complete seasons for you to dig into, and a third and final on one the way in Spring 2027.

The Lion and the Adder is our newest baby and our first foray into a full cast production! It's a supernatural detective story that follows gadabout demonologist, Robin Sylvester, as he teams up with psychic lesbian Bash Sebastian and DI Nicholas Hawthorn of Scotland Yard to solve the most magical crimes 1920s London has to offer. Scheduled to release in Autumn 2026 - but if that's too long to wait, we have three minisodes to whet your appetite, available wherever you listen to podcasts.

To learn more about Monstrous Productions and get to know the team, check out our About page or head over to our website.

If you ever want to post about our shows but don't want us to see - perhaps fanfic you want to share with other fans but not us, or for whatever other reason - just tag it #NotForHero. I've got the tag blocked so shouldn't see it 💕

So I was talking about the audio drama community's dislike of AI on reddit, and it got me curious. I personally would not listen to a show that used AI for art, writing, acting- anything really. How does the community feel about it?

I'd love some hard numbers to point to when talking about how the community feels.

EDIT: Please reblog for more reach! I want this to be not limited to my fans, but more general

I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it

I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally

Also how funny would it be to see a completely normal regular bear cast magic missile outta nowhere

Also there is no way ravens wouldn't figure out spells, tbh

They're smart fuckin birds, I believe in them

Either through observing or just figuring shit out ravens could 100% learn how to cast spells I'm sure of it

Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it

group of wizards who ask this in-universe, and after extensive study learn to their surprise that animals are casting spells all the time, just that their magic is so fundamental as to be unrecognizable to humans. turns out the only reason acorns grow on trees is because squirrels keep wishing for them.

I just listened to the newest episode of The Night Road and I'm in love with your performance! You have such a beautiful voice and you're SO expressive with it. The little conspiratorial "I'll tell you later" whisper especially had me giggling. Thank you so much for all your work!
