Eight days. Eight long days has passed since Hotch went on a case across the country. Eight long days you’d spent in the apartment, still learning it’s creaks and cracks, barely moved in. Eight long days where the only sounds at night, were the hum of the old refrigerator—that definitely needed to be changed soon—instead of Hotch’s light snores from beside you in bed.

You’d kept yourself busy… mostly. Laundry had been folded more than once, trying to perfectly flatten each piece until your dressers looked like boutique store fronts, catching up on shows—but that was simply too boring without Hotch there to complain about the inconsistencies and plot holes in the story line of your small-town dramas. You’d even organized some of his half-finished case files, scattered around the apartment, in a way you thought might be useful, then reorganized them a couple of hours later when you came up with a better system. And a truly embarrassing number of hours spent in bed, late at night, scrolling through old voice texts from him just to hear his voice.

You were half-asleep on the couch when the key finally turned in the lock a little past midnight, dressed in one of his old shirts and nothing else. You’d tried to stay up when you got the text that they were on their way back, wanting to see him before he inevitably had to go into the office once again.
