Some old technologies, in particular, tend to be much less dependent on extravagant energy use and also, not coincidentally, much less crapified than their glossy modern up-to-date replacements. Nearly all of these older technologies belong to much less complex and energy-intensive technological suites than those modern replacements, and this makes them preferable options for many people in the present. -John Michael Greer

John Michael Greer has embarked on a series revisiting his earliest energy predictions, and the results are spicy, to say the least. It is an interesting exercise, with plenty of topics affected by energy also being considered, and reconsidered.

This is the original post from 2006. Truth be told, I came on board around this time, thanks for Jim Kunstler and the Peak Oil Doomer circles I was obsessed with then.

Jim has gone off the reservation with Biden Derangement Syndrome. I still have a lot of love for his elderly white man yelling at the clouds persona.

"Owners of bars and bottle shops in California said that younger consumers have increasingly asked about nonalcoholic options, and speculated that winemakers had lost some business because of the popularity of cannabis. Customers who wanted wine, they said, tended to look for chilled reds, orange wines and white wines that felt unfussy."

seriously.

We can't handle the idea that nature is part of us, and we do not control it. We did not conquer it. We are a maleficent organism that can't control itself.

If we don't control ourselves, then something else will. And the earth will go on without us.
