In theory, maybe I get the “we’re all just playing with barbies, they’re fictional characters, no interpretation is incorrect because it’s an interpretation” argument. But actually no, not all takes are equally valid. Framing something as an interpretation doesn’t mean it inherently has merit. Some takes are completely incorrect and betray a fundamental misunderstanding of the source material. They just aren’t a reason to harass people or send death threats

shoutout to everyone in small fandoms who takes a character with one minute of screentime and decides to build an entire universe around them. to the oc creators, the rarepair shippers, the canon-divergence enthusiasts and the people who can’t stop asking “but what if?” and then proceed to spend 50k words answering their own question.

i genuinely think your joy is contagious. fandoms grow because people see someone having fun and think, “wait, i want to play too.” <3

Medwed as Bear in the meadow.

I love her design and honestly it was so difficult to choose between human her and bear her. But I love bear, and I love the Winnie the Pooh vibes and the soft and huggable very dangerous warrior beast. Took a while, but this was incredibly fun to just go nuts with my two current favourite brushes and just sort of build up layers until I was happy. Really different from my usual process and a good challenge :>

This one was really fun because I went back to some old stylistic choices from around 2015ish, and some old rendering techniques from 2021. That as her sweet precious face that was smiling at me from the screen the whole time. I love this character so much.

Créa on a stormy day in Evendim.

The attack that this was a revenge against was incredible and still has me reeling. This one was down to the wire on the last day. I actually love drawing Créa so much. She feels very intuitive to me. This was originally just the portrait on the right in a different setting, but I got inspired last minute. A lot of this was playing with brushes I'd never used before, and that was extraordinarily fun and honestly super rewarding. I've struggled for ages with backgrounds and environments, and this feels like a landmark for me :))

Yes girl, console your very distressed wet cat man. This one was admittedly somewhat of a struggle until I was given a beard reference (thank you sm), and otherwise it was so satisfying to draw. I had this one planned since June.

ok please excuse the fact that it's impossible for me to take good pictures of these frames for some reason, but look! I finally got all these artfight attacks/other gift arts/[Fine Portrait of the Grey Company] framed and hung on my wall :D

There were still a couple pieces I wanted to hang (mainly Dunadaan's Ethedis attack from last year which I ADORE) but, curses, I ran out of frames, so I guess those will be a project for another day after I raid the antique mall again. gonna look even better once I finally get my room painted green like I've wanted ever since we moved in, but ye! happy with the results for now!
