Additional Tips For Developing Your Practice

Shadow-Work: Prompts

Shadow Work is a practice of looking towards your own darkest sides you desire not to look at. Shadow work is embracing your dark sides and growing with it.

The creator of this concept of psychology is author and psychologist Carl Jung, who found being authentic with answers towards self discovery based questions had fantastic results.

Today, various witches and practitioners alike enjoy this art form, but it is highly recommended to do so moderately with a good support system, as it is very heavy treatment and can damage your mental health in excess.

Prompts:

  1. In what aspects of myself do I find myself feeling superior to others? Why do I feel this way?
  2. What toxic patterns and habits do I find myself repeating often? When did they start, and why?
  3. What was I raised to find value in or attraction towards? Is it healthy and beneficial for you?
  4. What would I tell my younger self if they were to witness who I’ve become today? Would they be proud?
  5. How can I unlock my own brightest potential and find contentment with it? What are the first steps towards this?
  6. Why do I expect my own ethical, physical, and mental standards from others? Why do I expect my energy from others?
  7. Is the environment and energies around me something I find peace in? Do I find myself feeling secure and at home inside?
  8. What limiting beliefs or restrictions have formed attachment to myself? What was the purpose, and how can I release them?
  9. What ambitions, inspiring dreams, or ideals did you let grip of whilst becoming an adult? Was that beneficial towards your growth?

Friendly reminder to my anxious animist witches that while the tools and accoutrements of your craft may have an energetic signature that resonates with your intuition, and while you might personify them in your own perception, they are not sentient and they are not angry with you.

If you are experiencing feelings of guilt or anxiety connected to your pendulum, cards, wand, etc, that's coming from your own worry or an imagined sense of inadequacy, not animosity from the items themselves. If you feel like your tools aren't working properly, it's because there's some internal or external factor affecting your ability to focus, not because the objects are somehow refusing to work.

Please know that you are always enough and that your tools are extensions of yourself, rather than independently intelligent entities that might randomly decide to thwart you. If something doesn't work, it does not mean that you suck and everything is against you. It just means try again later. 💜

The Switch Witch

So a few years ago one of my coworkers introduced me to a Halloween Tradition she did with her kiddo called “The Switch Witch” where kiddos leave out a few pieces of the Switch Witch’s favorite candies (YMMV ;D ) and in return the Switch Witch comes and replaces the candies the next day with a little toy or treat.

I got to finally do it with my kiddo this year and wanted to share the tradition with you guys as well~♥ So remember to leave some candy out for The Switch Witch tonight and you might get a treat ;)

Happy Halloween my darlings~ may you have a wonderfully spooky night ;)

New Printable Deck at my Etsy•

Black is Art deck | Full Major Arcana

As a POC, as a Black person - this deck was a long time coming. It’s been brewing for almost a year as it held so much importance for me, so I wanted the research to be just right. Lack of representation is and always has been a societal and structural issue that does a deep and scarring damage, and I hope to make a ripple in that, even if it’s little, with this deck.

Black is art, Black is in art and it’ll continue to be, even if people try to stop it and erase it.

The deck, with 22 cards also comes with a PDF booklet with 25 pages where the Art info and why it was choosen is informed (all public domain) – it costs $8.88 USD and is available at my Etsy Shop • NoweyeseeStore

A Deep Room Cleanse

The state of my room is extremely important to me. It’s a direct reflection of my mental health, so when it’s messy, my energy levels are low and I just feel yucky. There’s no way I’m getting any kind of work done, magical or mundane. When it feels good and clean to be in, it’s a lot easier to deal with my symptoms and be productive. You don’t have to do every step every time of course, but each step has helped me so I figured a list like this might help someone.

  1. Change the lighting. Use natural sources of light (like pulling back the curtains and letting the sun in) over artificial ones. If you have salt lamps to turn on, those are still very nice. If you need artificial light to keep it from being too dark, try to prioritize light bulbs you like the color of, and ones that don’t whistle quietly when they’re on.
  2. Change the airflow. Open a window, if you can. Often our rooms feel yucky because the air is stale. Get some fresh air moving. If it’s too cold, it’s okay to only keep it open for a few minutes or put on a coat while you work because you’re stubborn like me.
  3. Change the sound. Put on your favorite cleansing music. Let it soak into the room. I tend to go or ambient spa stuff, or playlists that sound built for a rainy day. (Note: the music that helps you cleanse the best may not be the same as what you like the most. The playlist should keep you focused/uplifted while you work and reflect the vibes you want your room to have.)
  4. Change the smell. Take out the trash, maybe refresh the sheets on your bed. Light a scented candle, some incense, heat up some oil, something to make your room smell distinctly different from the mucky-feeling room from before. (If your method of choice is something short like a room spray, I actually like doing it at the very end.)
  5. Actually clean and organize. Nothing junks up the energy of a room more quicker than actual junk. Organize everything as much as you can (this might mean finally gutting your closet, even if you can close the door and hide it.) Wipe down any surfaces that need it, get everything fresh and functional again. Do some laundry while you work. If you have clothes or trinkets that are just collecting dust, extra points for purging them!
  6.  Cleanse any sacred spaces by themselves. A lot of us have altars or shrines in our rooms. A sacred space can also be just an extra important area of your room, like a reading nook.  Make sure to give them extra attention! You don’t need to wipe the board energetically (and probably shouldn’t), but taking a little extra time to clean surfaces, straighten up, and make sure everything feels okay on them goes a long way.
  7. Cleanse in your regular way. Bust out the herb bundles, the bells, the ribbons, the broom, whatever you usually do to cleanse a space! The room is SUPER primed for it now, most of the negative energy probably already feels removed if not broken down. A good once-over with your favorite cleansing method should finish it off nicely.
  8. Refresh any wards or protections. Self explanatory. If you maintain energy borders in your room, now is a good time to check in on them and zhoosh them if needed. Keep the space clean for longer!
  9. Practice self-care. Take a shower, a nap, eat some food, whatever you need. You’ve put in a lot of work and you deserve it.

Your craft is your own.

You don’t have to do the same spells as everyone else. You don’t have to have the same ingredients as everyone else. You don’t have to practice like everyone else.

You can make use of what is in your cabinets. Eggshells, nutmeg, syrup, apples, liquor, vanilla.

You can make use of what is in your environment. Flowers, leaves, roots, seashells, carcasses.

You can make use of the heavens. The sun, the moon, the planets, the constellations.

You can make use of the spirits. Angels, ghosts, demons, gods, fae, lands.

You can make use of yourself. Sing, dance, scream, whisper, remain still, dress up, abandon your clothes, dream, stay alert, leave your body, find your creatures.

You can make use of your hands. Potions, infusions, tinctures, oils, incenses, washes, wines, idols, knives.

You can do magic. Craft poppets, carve names into apples, dress candles with blood, pray over talismans, bury witch bottles, create beasts, invoke, evoke, spit curses and blessings, listen to spirits, burn things, reverse them, consecrate them, break them, carve them, paint them, feed them, instruct them, make them rot, bring them alive, sacrifice them.

Your craft is what you make of it, not what is popular.
