Welcome to Mama Spark's quilting blog!

whenever someone calls me and says they're from my bank or car loan company or whatever and asks me security questions, I always tell them "excuse me, you called me, how can you prove who you are" and every single time they act like it's the first time anyone's ever asked that, which absolutely boggles my mind. for the love of fuck please do not answer "security questions" when you didn't initiate the call, at least without making them answer a few first

Never give them your info!

Rest in Peace, Sam Neill (1947-2026) 🕊️

He was just a beautiful soul. His instagram was always a wholesome little corner of joy in the world. Just an old man who loved his vineyard, his farm, and his animals. He cared about the planet and its people and its nature. He was just a good person.

He will be missed.

I cut out 2 quilt tops using a peacock line and solids I’ve had for a very long time. I want to make a pattern called Starbreak. It has one row of 6 stars. I didn’t have any peacock fabric to fussy cut for the centers to make it more interesting so I decided to see if I could find some machine embroidery patterns that could fit into a 3.5” square. I found some peacocks but since I didn’t want them to be exactly the same I kept looking. I finally found some peacock feathers! I bought my files on ETSY. I thought you might like to see how the stars turned out.

I am excited to put the rest of the quilt up on a design wall to make into a top. More pics after retreat.

Every year we rent out a cottage for vacation. This year we rented the cottage and the smaller one on the property as well. Our whole family was able to be there, although not at the same time. The couple we rent from are really nice people. The lady has had some pretty severe health problems in the last year. What do quilters do in this situation? We give a quilt, of course! I made one awhile ago that has been waiting for a good home.

She was so thrilled and surprised. The pattern is called Denim and Lace by A Crafty Fox. It makes me so happy to know how loved it will be and I hope the quilt reminds her she is wrapped in a hug and I will be praying for her

I made these 2 paper pieced ladies yesterday. My friend is going to make a bag using them on the outside. She made the Eeyore bag. Our friend’s birthday is coming up when we will be at quilting retreat. Hoping to have it to give her for her birthday to en. The photos don’t show it well but the boots are sparkly purple!

Our friend has a fabric shop online and the logo for the shop is an umbrella girl! Not sure if you can see it very well, but I outlined the girl using black thread and stitching around her.

The pattern is by Tartan Kiwi and is one of the best, well written and labeled fpp pattern I have ever used!

Here are the rest of the quilts I shared. My friend Kailie had me make some of the bears from one of the patterns I tested for a homespun quilt. We brought it but she is still working on it. Her dog was “helping”.

Meagan gave me some patterns and fabrics to give away at the guild meeting after my talk. I got a photo of all the winners with me and their prizes!

I was asked to speak at a quilt guild in Ohio recently about being a pattern tester. I have tested quilt patterns for quite a few different designers but by far my favorite is Meags and Me. After my talk I did a little show of many of the quilts of theirs I have tested over the years. I thought my friends here might enjoy a little online show too! 🥰

Since I can only upload 10 at a time please watch for a second post! 1/2

I have a one of a kind small blanket/lovey for sale. It’s 29.5” square. The back fabric is rainbow My Little Pony cotton. The center is a cool rainbow Minky. I even stitched them together using rainbow thread. I only have one so please let’s find it a good home! I’m asking $50 plus shipping. I’m in the US. Would prefer to ship within the US. Send me a message if you’re interested.

I was trying to get a photo of all of my baby crested geckos on my hand and I managed to get very lucky with my timing, this is quite possibly the funniest photo I’ve ever taken.

He scream.

Dragon babies!

“We came to rescue you, master.” “Good job.”

BIIIIIIITE

I wish I could open my jaw that far to scream in someone’s face

@elodieunderglass have some little guys

Don’t mind if I do!

I was able to gift the swan quilt I made for my soon to be born great niece. The pattern is by Poppie Cotton called Swan Song. While I loved the finished quilt, the pattern had EIGHT errors!! I did send an email to the pattern designer who said she would correct them but I haven’t checked the website to be sure yet. My friend, Kailie of Threadiculous Quilting Co did the quilting. She is open if anyone needs a quilt long arm quilted I can make that happen!! She has a quick turn around time and reasonable rates! Now for the photos!!!!

I did a flange binding and was so pleased with how that looked on the quilt too. You can see it in the photo below. This is how I gifted it. With a swan from Lambs and Ivy and the cutest basket I found the Dollar Tree. There were homemade burp cloths under the swan too.

I would love to hear what you think of this one!

Credit card companies will TRY to saddle you with this kind of debt by the way - if ever a loved one dies and you are not co-signed on their credit card, do NOT agree to pay their debt unless you ask a lawyer first if you truly have to.

They will say “don’t you want them to go to the grave without debt”, they will try to guilt you, they will take advantage of your vulnerability.

Source: when my father died, he had some credit cards that my mom wasn’t on that she had no access to. The companies contacted her while she was sorting through the bills and getting a handle on how to run the house alone, badgering her with his credit card debt.

She wasn’t liable for any of it, but if she had ever agreed to pay before finding out that she didn’t need to, she would have been considered to have taken on his debt and would have HAD to pay it. It’s slimy, it’s predatory, and it’s entirely legal for them to do this.

Never accept the credit card company’s word about your obligation to pay anyone else’s debt, if you don’t have access to the card, ask a lawyer before agreeing to anything.
