Adult, She/Her PFP by @atomic-rena Please be nice, I'm very soft

I did it! I installed linux on my desktop! My life is now microsoft-free! (well, except for my work computer, but I don't get to choose what's on that.)

Now I just gotta replace gmail, Google Drive, Google Photos, and Andriod, and I'll be free of Google as well!

If you're looking for an alternative to Google photos, I'd recommend immich, it's a locally self hosted media management solution, free and open source!!

As you all may know, I like plants!

And a while ago, I designed a grow light to mount on my shelf (see here)

Well, I liked that mount for its simplicity, but it had a few issues.

For one, it got very hot, and the LED panel got to about 65°C, which is really not good for it.

Another issue was the space that was required on my shelf, I need that space for uranium glass.

So I decided to make a new light!! I went and got some L channel aluminum rod, and designed these grippy things to hold these panels on them

Great! It holds!

I then designed these edge blocks, that will hold it in place, and this allowed me to mount the panel right over my lights, taking up minimal shelf space. (Cameo of @limulid-labs the fish and doglet)

If one works, let's go with many.

Spaced them 6cm apart, this leaves a bit of room on the end, enough for the power supply.

Oh yeah, that's great, I like that spot.

Mounted and cable managed, with purple zip ties of course.

At just over four feet long, this setup is pretty large!

With it mounted, I think it looks great! And my plants like it too!!! They've been growing much happier over the past week or so. And I was able to get rid of the old ugly grow lights that were really not doing much.

I did end up mounting a fan on the end there, and it uses the same 12v supply rail as the lights.

I am.... Gonna design a fun spice rack, stay tuned for updates

MY DESIGN

I think I cooked, the base is a lazy suzan that uses a simple V groove full of bearing balls, and each section has a top and bottom knob that will help me align it to the previous one!

This is meant to use cheap spice bottles that are 43mm in diameter, I'm printing test pieces right now!!!!

Upsate: printed the first few pieces (lazy Susan, retainer, and the bottom most piece) and everything fits great!!!! Put a handful of spice bottles in there to test the fit and they are held in very nicely but require no force to take out.

The exhaust system is also working really well, eliminating the smell from my apartment completely.

Update: printed all the pieces!!! Now I gotta fill and label them up :)

And it even spins!

Its now all filled, and getting some real use in my home :) I'm really happy with how it came out!

There's still room for another layer on top if I need, but for now Everything's great :)

One day I'll post the model online

Set up a nice voc/fume/smell extraction system for my 3d printer, it works remarkably well, but the fan unfortunately only runs at 100%, I have a fix I'll implement tomorrow at work.

I think I'll get a better and longer hose, but right now this works.

I did build up a window exhaust board, and it's pretty airtight!

Wonder how this would effect temps during prints.

Quick update: modified the fan to add a PWM wire!

Tested it on a signal generator and it works great!!!!

Will install when I get home

FINAL UPDATE:

Modified fan is a success!!!

0 smell when printing a small ABS test print, and it's quiet at low duty that I can leave it on 24/7

I want to set it up in the automated scripts that at the start of a print it sets it to something like 35, and at the end just blast it at like 80 to cool things down and clear the chamber air before I open it up.

Tumblr has fucking mandatory unskippable ads now?

Well i guess i'm not using mobile anymore @staff stop pushing people off of your website

You can use ReVanced to patch the app to block all ads, as well as remove other annoyances :)

I'm releasing a game! My remake of the classic 2013 incremental game Candy Box 2 is finally on Steam.

After a lot of fun work, my remake (unofficial, but play-tested and permitted by the original creator "aniwey") is finally nearly to release!

The game is fully coded from scratch in the Unreal Engine, and all the art and music was done by me! I took some creative liberties with a lot of the ascii art, to make sure the game showed off my artstyle. If you're a fan of the original, or just like the combination of incremental games, 2D platformers and RPG mechanics, then give this one a try! Steam Link

let me know what you all think! This is my first game of this scale, and actually bringing it to market for the first time feels surreal too! Feedback is, as always, greatly appreciated! Have fun and enjoy!

Special thanks again of course to aniwey, who helped a lot with game design tips, bug finding, and brainstorming 3 of the steam achievements.

I love candy box!!!

But, uhhh OP, I think I found a game breaking bug

Details below the cut to avoid spoilers!

insane headline to pair with the actual photo of the beastie itself

this is just a gormless little creature. what are we doing here.

People need to be kinder to other inhabitants of this planet.

We shouldn't insult a creature based on its looks, a lot of the time these "ugly" deep sea creatures are photographed after undergoing explosive decompression, anyone would look deflated and injured after that. Even divers get pressure sickness when rising too quick, called "the bends".

These amazing creatures are adapted to living in pressures that would instantly kill any human, we have no place to bully them.

This goblin shark looks cute, and I wish a fantastic day upon all deep sea creatures.

Femininity is a gift, I'm glad to experience it. I wish the patriarchal idea of it being a negative quality would just die off.

Those who embrace femininity out of joy are some of the happiest people I have ever seen, and I strive to acheive that.

I love being a girl, it's genuinely a gift.

A while ago my gf said "I like being a girl" while we were talking about gender stuff, I didn't say it out loud but honestly, knowing other people also like being feminine brings me much joy. She's really feminine and I take a lot of inspiration from her, I love her so much.

I love women, I love being one, and I wish every woman and woman adjacent person out there a very pleasant femininity.

I love my electric skateboard, unfortunately it is showing its age.

The tyres are significantly worn down and are starting to lose traction. The battery barely gets me two trips to and from work whereas last year I could go 4 days without charging.

I have ordered new tyres, but that was not cheap unfortunately, but safety comes first.

I may need to get a second charger for this skateboard, or build up a new battery, and if I do that I may as well make it USB C chargable, there's a really neat family of TI BMS chips that can handle USB C PD which can do up to 240 watts!!! That would be a fun project and would look good on a resume.

I have been reading Blindsight by Peter watts as a part of an office book club at work, its an interesting book, very relatable at times...

Autistic space nerds my beloved...

I finished it, I didn't like the ending tbh, but overall a decent book.

Interesting concepts and discussions of intelligence vs sentience.

Overall half decent book, scifi is fun

I am DEVASTATED

I went to the store to get some pizza ingredients (yummy) and as I look around, I decide that I'll get some of my favourite kombucha. But I look around the usual spot and it's NOT THERE!!! It was purple and very yummy...

This has got to stop happening, products I deeply enjoy just get discontinued with NO WARNING ;-;
