why not put the translations on the comic website itself, like in the description, for people who do not have a patreon account?

Because the entire point of Llanto is he doesn't care if he's actually understood by the other person, he's just preaching at people. I was originally gonna just have his dialogue be squiggles, but wanted to add an extra layer to readers that are able to understand his archaic Spanish.

Leaving the translations Val made for me on the Patreon was a compromise I made for people who truly want to know what he's saying and don't know someone that knows Spanish or can't use a translator. I'm perfectly fine with people copying and pasting those translations themselves for other people to share, and in fact people have left their own translations on almost every place the comic has been posted. If people still have a problem with the way I have decided to present this , then it's out of my hands.

I will have you know that I love Dust n' Dread so damn much I finally decided what to change my wallpaper to after. however long lol

Your art is so so cool and I LOVE the poses I've seen from Llanto, holy shit

Okay two questions and I'm done lol (me when I lie)

1. I imagine the stories take place in the general south since they travel a lot, but did they originate in a specific state? Or is it your own kinda world with an American South-like?

2. I don't doubt this has been asked before and I just hadn't seen it yet, but where'd the idea for Clayton come from? I dunno anything about his inspiration characters, but a corpse controlled by centipedes with the corpse's memories is so cool and very very interesting. Obviously it works with any kind of bug (or at least the two we've seen), so does Marcy (Marci?) have an affinity for centipedes? Not sure if it'd work as well, but it'd be funny if some guy was just full of butterflies. Or caterpillars that became butterflies I guess

I realize that was like. a million questions in two parts sorry lol TL;DR your comic is incredible and it makes me wish my brain would work for once so I can make one even an OUNCE as cool

Thank you for your work, truly🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

Thank you so much! It warms my heart to know people like Dust n' Dread enough to think about it <:)

as for your questions:

  1. Dust n' dread exists in its own world (think of it as something like the setting of the Wild Wild West show). I like to imagine Clayton is from Louisiana and Holt being from New York.
  2. Clayton was originally for a Metroidvania game idea I had, with a corpse changing powers depending on what little creatures were piloting it. Considering I don't make video games though, I didn't do anything with it. I also like the idea of non-human entities having a human identity forced upon them. As for why centipedes, it's because I like bugs and Sekiro.

finally caught up on dust n dread myself im so hype for llanto! also another member of the jo fanclub. has anyone ever mentioned voice headcanons for the characters? whenever i read jo’s dialogue, she sounds like sandy cheeks in my head. It Just Happened.

I can see that LOL

Jo is based on one of my long time friends who’s from Texas so you are technically not that far off from how I hear her

This is some of the art of the Stalk Walker I did for @american-abyss! I was looking at Portuguese Man of Wars while designing them and wanted a giant shambling thing.

You can read more about them on the American Abyss website! There's also a lot of cool multimedia works on there, and if you like things like SCP I highly recommend you check it out :)

I just finished reading the Dust n’ Dread series and I love it so much.

Not only is your art style amazing (I love Holt’s painful transformations and how you can just see that he’s tormented in that state and also all the other gore) but the storytelling is phenomenal. You have such a masterful understanding and use of tropes! I love the world of Dust n’ Dread.

Also as a side note, it’s funny how whenever Clayton gets injured I don’t have a strong reaction to it but if it’s Holt I’m like ‘no don’t hurt the wolf man’ (I may be falling for their façades though and I admit that)

You all spoil me so...

I found Dust and Dread because of Sever and Pierce (extended X and Y horror verse??). Absolutely fell in love with it. (Including but not limited to the gay little sailor suits.) After Ghost Train 1 I realized "every chapter has introduced a new character even more laser focused on my friend's tastes" so I sent her a link. An hour later she started sending me Jo's panels saying how much she loved her.

Just binged all of dust & dread,,, and I loved it! eagerly anticipating the upcoming chapters, I roughly typed Llanto's dialogue word by word into google translate and I am simply tickled pink by the way he's written; his design also tickles my fancy, but not pinkly. some of Claytons lines about how he's feeling in chapter one were a little too relatable, especially the one about splitting his own head open to pick the bugs out... the way he told Colt to his face that he's the worst & most pathetic werewolf he's ever seen and then the very next chapter he has him as his little sidekick was deeply amusing, as was Claytons drawing of Holt.

the character designs overall kick major arse- especially the monsters, everything from the the garments to the gore & the ghoulish freakazoids all about are mightily finely crafted, and the shading is sublime.

I love that the main character is a dissociative misanthrope full of centipedes (which are always a treat to see creepily crawling about cuz yer artistic talents clearly extend well past encompassing exquisite arthropods). Holts hallucinations hhwarm my heart, not really but watching him panic as the beast within shows him exactly where/how it'll make him harm those closest to him is nifty.

Jo is fantastic, perhaps an ideal woman.

TLDR: If I had to give a review it'd be glowing!!! keep up the greatly excellent work!!

This genuinely made my night I hope you know that

Do you intentionally make most of the significant characters in the story attractive for does that just kind of happen :]

I'm the toy maker and all the toys in the toy box are toys I want to play with
