Hey! About your super beautiful Hiccup painting... it's obviously epic so great work! Just... may I ask why you drew him desperate / in agony?

Based on only the image I thought to myself that you may have either alluded to Stoick's ship (bc of the fire) or to nightmares from his fall because of his leg / the responsibility of Chieftainship / everything he went through in general. But the symbolism isn't *explicitly* there since you showed us only the marvelous flying scenes which have nothing to do with that. I'm intrigued - what were you expressing? Thx!

Hello! This is a good question! I fear I didn't make it obvious enough in the artwork, so that is a fault of my own haha-- but, his agony alludes to the tragedy of losing his father in front of his own eyes by the fire of his best friend. It is more difficult to see than I intended, but in the white circle beneath Toothless's side profile and Hiccup there is a faint yellow outline of Stoick's ship. I meant to have the line of sight be directed from Hiccup's face, to Toothless with the restraints, and down the yellow circle of fire to see the slight outline of the ship, giving you an explanation to Hiccup's agony.

I believe HTTYD is an insanely intricate and dark story for an animated picture's perspective-- I mean, he loses a whole leg, his dad dies, his girlfriend almost goes blind, he gets struck by lightning, and his friend Johan had been betraying him for years. I wanted to shed light on these aspects of the movies and shows, especially since a lot of the original fanbase has matured now, enough to realize these dark highlights of the franchise!

I love getting questions like these, so feel free to keep them coming!

Hah, I bet you thought I forgot to post my Hiccup cosplay, didn't you!? Well you would be right!

As I was storing it I realized I never actually posted anything lmao. Anyways, this is it! (except for the underclothes.)

Everything was handmade (except for the base of the compass) and a lot of it is real leather! It took a long time, and im pretty proud of how it turned out! :D

Long post of explanations so buckle up~

The torso was fun, especially the chestplate! It is faux leather on eva foam since real leather didn't work out quite right. The belt's are leather though, and made from scratch, same with the accessories. Studs and fasteners were used to hold it closed.

I learned a lot about leather-working with this costume lmao.

The brown harness thing is faux leather as well. It was the biggest pain ever. (And it restricts movement even with faux leather. I am judging Hiccup on his outfit-making skills.) All of the scale designs were done separately and without an embroidery machine, because embroidery machines are unreasonably expensive. It was sewn with batting material on the inside.

(also, it does tie in the front. Grommets were added on the sides of the weird harness fetch to secure a leather tie, but Anakin is too dummy thicc to secure it properly, that is why it is separated. Same with the chestplate. I used a binder to stop it from protruding because I, too, am dummy thicc.)

And the back! Once again due to Anakin, the top is showing, but it looks kinda like the back where Hiccup's fin comes out, but non functional (sadly) (one day...)

(Yes. The back belt thing does that in the movie. no seam, nothing. (at least according to my observations. Tell me if im wrong.) Idk why Hiccup is like this.)

And here be the pauldrons! Especially proud of how the skull one came out (especially since I freehanded it like an idiot). Same process as the chestplate, but all leather details were done by hand because, as I have learned, sewing leather with a sewing machine is A Bad Idea™.

(ignore the detached leather on the sides. Used a hot glue gun because I am lazy. Did not work because hot glue hates me. Will reattach eventually.)

(Also also the under pauldron is not attached normally. I just attached it to show what it looked like. Usually its held on the upper arm using elastic :) )

They are attached on the chesplate with velcro and leather.

Boot was made intentionally massive. The top fabric is detached so you can put the pants around the foam to give the illusion that I suffer from Big Feet Syndrome, as the Barbaric Archipelago's residents do.

Prosthetic foot doesn't actually look quite like this on, but it is made of foam and connects to your leg, while the base is held on your leg using friction, giving the illusion of no leg.

And those are the under-pauldron things not attached! (I know there are too many lines shhh.) Made in the same fashion of the breastplate, and handsewn in-between the cracks.

Next pic, my favorite, the gauntlets! (also ignore the missing studs, they were there but I decided to change the type since they keep falling out. And my hand. I had alcohol ink explode on it earlier. and my phone refused to focus normally so its blurry.) Other one looks the same, just mirrored and without dagger holster. Completely made of leather besides the hand-cover and dagger. You can't see it here, but it has the finger ring too!

Dagger is foam and fabric (though I had to do it in a rush so its not perfect-will probably redo at some point) And can come out! Didn't get a pic of the compass on the gauntlet since I misplaced it but it also is a working compass that I can open like Hiccups in the movie hehehehe! (if you can't tell, I was flipping it open and pulling out the dagger the entire convention.

Also haven't added pages to underneath the gauntlet because they have the oddest design in existence, so figuring out exactly how it worked took too long and I ran out of time, but with a bit of work it can do that!

But yeah! That is my Hiccup cosplay! Absolutely not perfect but I like it! I wanted to put a picture of me in it but I don't think my mind will let me, so thisll probably be it. Quite proud of how it ended up though!! :D

For the dancers and dreamers (and being hijack pilled), i have created:

A Free Hijack Shimeji!

yes folks, you heard that right, we're bringing shimejis back with this one muahahaha

for people who have not used shimejis before:

shimejis are basically little desktop buddies that like to run around and bother you while you're working occasionally :)

tips!!

  • you can right click on the shimeji to pull up settings
  • for more general settings, you can find the icon in your server tray (the up arrow on the right of your taskbar)
  • to get them to interact with certain windows, you need to add them to the list in the settings -> interactive windows -> input the title of the window you want letter by letter so it will register :)

Once you have both java and the file attached downloaded, you need to:

  • unzip the file and extract its contents into a folder (this step is very important! it will not work otherwise)
  • run the .jar file inside the folder (titled "Hijack Shimeji.jar" and hiccup and jack will descend from the sky :)

notes:

  • works best on windows. not sure if macs can easily get shimeji without going over hoops
  • if you are stuck or something isnt working properly, leave a comment so either me or others can help you fix it!
  • if the shimeji is acting weird, like climbing in weird spaces, it might have something to do with your application being fullscreen/not
  • they might be a little glitchy when in between multiple screens! at least they are for me. have not found a fix for that yet
  • have fun!!! i certainly will be lol
