The difference between "There used to be hot summers too,” and a climate crisis.

Look, we all know this is true. But there isn't a SOURCE for this, and the graph itself is basically illegible beyond "ooh colors". If we want to be good stewards of our informational resources, we need to cite our sources.

From a reverse image search, I found the website Show Your Stripes, run by the University of Reading in the UK, which is likely where the above graph originated. It provides temperature data for various regions of the world from approximately 1900-2025. For example, here are graphs for Canada, India, and Papua New Guinea:

All clearly show a sharp rise in temperature beginning around approximately the 1980s, which corresponds with the graph in OP's post. But now we know where this data came from, and we can verify its validity accordingly.

Really enjoying the idea that Grace's angry outburst in Denmark became a meme. The Angry Scientist. It shows up in discussions of egregiously bad sci-fi movies and arguments with antivaxxers and astrophage deniers, in forms ranging from pristine screencap to super-crunchy jpeg. There's an animated parody in the style of Ace Attorney. His students use it without realizing it's him.

In his first week on the Gansu six different people asked him about it and four asked Stratt why she hired Angry Scientist Meme guy.

Sometimes, I imagine Simon really getting into philosophical discussions with Rocky. Real heart-felt stuff. I think he and Rocky would totally go bitch-for-bitch, but they'd also level with each other a lot over really deep shit. Rocky is really good at simplifying Simon's conflicting thoughts down into something tangible and streamlined.

A very important detail of Simons imprisonment at the hands of the COI is that by all accounts, Simon was a prisoner of war. He wasn't being held and given a fair accountable trial because he's from Eden, who are actively a threat to the COI the way the COI are a threat to them. He wasn't read his rights or anything, he was essentially a scapegoat for the COI (both the injured party and the 'justice').

Sure, he was the Butcher even before being captured (not arrested) so he definitely had a pretty gorey reputation, but the battle of filament station lasted for 9 days. It was essentially disputed territory.

All of this, plus the way they treat Simon as somehow stupider or less capable because he's an "edenite" during the movie paints a very interesting social situation regarding prisoners during the Quiet Rapture.

in a functioning society, in peacetime, Simon's sentence (if he'd be handed one at all -- rules are different in war. every soldier isn't exactly charged with murder) would never have been handled by the injured party who needed someone to blame
