I wanted to post a small PSA today for people who are like me and play a lot of indie visual novels, because this has become a pretty annoying problem lately:

if you google an indie game and come across some weird website claiming to host it (as seen in the image I provided), offer downloads, walkthroughs, guides for endings and character routes that don't even exist yet, or basically pretending to be an official page when it very obviously isn’t—please don’t use it.

a lot of these websites are pure AI slop made by scammers/ content farms. they scrape information, screenshots, descriptions, walkthroughs, characters, etc. from actual creators, then use generative AI to churn out cheap copies and fake articles pages around them.

the biggest problem is that they also abuse SEO so their garbage sometimes shows up surprisingly high in Google results. indie devs rely a lot on word of mouth and people finding their games organically, so these sites are basically trying to hijack that traffic and redirect clicks, ad revenue and potential players away from the people who actually made the game.

and this isn't just happening to one game. indie VNs are an easy target because smaller creators obviously don't have giant companies constantly monitoring search results for them.

I've already reported 13 different fake websites involving TFC, and unfortunately there are still more out there :')

so if you see one of these sites, the best thing you can do is not click around on it, don't download anything from it, and definitely don't share the link as a source. go through the creator's actual itch.io, Steam, Patreon, Tumblr, Carrd, etc. instead.

you can also report scam/spam pages to Google so they can potentially be removed or pushed out of search results.

and honestly, please spread the word when you see this happening to an indie game. a lot of players probably have no idea these websites are fake in the first place, especially when they're deliberately designed to look legitimate.

I mean, I don't really care if someone personally draws the line at DG's route. everyone has different limits when it comes to fiction, and "I enjoy these dark themes, but this particular one isn't fun for me" is a perfectly reasonable position to have. what I find strange is when that personal boundary turns into "therefore this part of the game is uniquely problematic and shouldn't be there," while they're happily engaging with all the other messed-up things in BC 🙂

and I don't really agree with the idea that enjoying one taboo in fiction means you have to enjoy all of them either. people absolutely get to pick and choose what they personally want to read. but that freedom goes both ways: you can skip DG's route because it crosses your personal line without expecting the story itself to move that line for you.

I think that's the distinction that sometimes gets lost. "This makes me uncomfortable, so I'm not going to play it" is very different from "This makes me uncomfortable, so why did you put it in the game?" the former is curating your own fictional experience; the latter is trying to curate everyone else's.

oh, I don’t think DG would get bored and kill them just because they refuse to "break." an exceptionally persistent MC is probably one of the people DG would be least inclined to casually dispose of. easy prey can give him pain, fear and entertainment. this one gives him all of those things plus surprise, challenge, frustration and curiosity.

DG is a sadist, but he isn’t really interested in turning people into obedient shells. he likes reactions, resistance, escalation, and messing with people. so an MC who looks completely defeated one day, only to start fighting again the next, would become a challenge he keeps coming back to. I also wouldn’t call it straightforward respect. he’d probably find their determination funny, impressive, annoying, and fascinating all at once. if a bloodied MC told him, "As long as my heart is still beating, I won’t stop fighting for my life," he’d probably laugh at them—but he’d remember it. ("You know, you keep saying that like it's supposed to discourage me...")

eventually he’d start wondering what keeps bringing them back. he thinks they’re bluffing, then assumes tomorrow will finally do it, only for them to glare at him again despite barely being able to stand. at that point, it stops being just "Can I hurt you?" and becomes "What exactly is keeping you going?"

there’s also a nastier side to it: his "admiration" would make MC less safe, not more safe. once DG realizes that physical pain hasn’t extinguished that spark, he’d become curious about what would.

I also think this MC would hit an interesting nerve with DG himself. there could be a strange little resentment buried in his fascination. MC gets to regard their one fragile life as unquestionably theirs—something precious enough to fight desperately for—while DG's existence began because somebody else made him for a purpose. he never had a childhood, normal development, or even the certainty that he qualifies as a "real" person in the same way everybody around him does. so here's this battered creature fiercely declaring my life, my heart, me, and DG, of all people, has spent his existence wrestling with what me even means. it could explain why this particular MC would get under his skin more than most ^^

nope, Helen isn’t immortal. that’s why it’s so important that no one gets access to her. especially certain nosy MCs… 👀

yep, I don’t think DG is the kind of immortal who would simply "get over" losing someone he genuinely loved. if anything, immortality would make it worse because he keeps all of his memories every time Helen recreates him. MC wouldn’t gradually become some blurry person from his distant past; decades later, DG could probably still remember their voice, habits, expressions, and all the stupid little things they used to do.

I think Damon’s death would absolutely wreck him too. Damon isn’t just some friend DG happens to have; their relationship is deeply codependent, and DG actively refuses to let him leave. if he eventually lost both Damon and MC, especially after the three of them had built a life together, I could see that being the point where DG stops allowing others to get genuinely close to him.

he’d still socialize, flirt, sleep with people, make temporary friends, joke around, etc. he just wouldn’t let anyone become important again. the moment someone started getting too close, he’d probably pull away, sabotage the relationship, or convince himself they were annoying anyway. he would insist people are boring, relationships are too much work, or that he simply doesn’t care. meanwhile he still has something MC owned sitting in a box 30 years later and gets pissed if anyone asks about it.

so yeah, I think DG would eventually develop a kind of grief fatigue. for someone who can’t truly die, loving mortals would eventually become one of the few things he’s genuinely afraid of 💔

honestly, I’m always confused whenever I see someone with “proshippers DNI” in their bio following me or Blastic, because BC is very openly a dark/taboo-fiction horror game. its characters do terrible things, many of its relationships are unhealthy, and one of our goals is to make players deeply uncomfortable when the story calls for it, without relying on empty shock value. that said, I don’t really care what label someone uses as long as they understand what kind of story they’re engaging with and don’t harass other fans, shame people over fictional interests, or demand that the game be rewritten around their personal boundaries. there’s a big difference between saying, “This content isn’t for me,” and deciding that nobody else should be allowed to enjoy, create, or discuss it.

so antis existing in the fandom doesn’t bother me by itself. I’m more interested in how they behave. if they can enjoy the game without trying to police me or Blastic or the rest of the audience, then they’re welcome to be here—even if I still find the contradiction a little funny :)

Damon → INFJ — Daydreamer DG → ESTP — Visionary Rasmus → ENTP — Rogue Vito → ISTJ — Buddy

because Damon is driven by romantic idealization, DG by impulse and stimulation, Rasmus by provocation and confidence, and Vito by caution and consideration. it's a shame you can't have a hybrid because I think ISTP (Observer) for Damon would be a genuinely good alternate ^^

I think the bigger concern would be the traffic accident itself 😅 also, Rasmus rides a motorcycle, not a bicycle. whether MC would get fired would depend entirely on the circumstances, especially whether it was a genuine accident or reckless driving.

also, I'm a bit confused about the situation you described. you mention a "light bump", but immediately add that MC was driving fast and that the impact made him jump off his bike. those things don't really fit together. if a car is traveling fast enough to knock someone off a motorcycle, that's no longer a "light bump." that's a traffic accident with a real risk of injury. on the other hand, if it truly was just a light bump, he probably wouldn't be thrown off the motorcycle in the first place :)

Ras would probably be more shocked and irritated than anything else, and he'd definitely want to know whether everyone was okay. if MC had been driving recklessly, tho, he'd have a much harsher reaction, and there would definitely be consequences.
