@heraxic

I recently saw your strange magic art. I knew the fandom through Tumblr before seeing the movie; safe to say I kinda prefer how the fandom has managed the story. Your concepts are really cool; I especially like how you manage the dark forest creatures to look more like insects. Griselda especially looks great! And I like how Plum was the one who manipulated Bog into using the potion, and that she is a Villain.

Thank you!!✨

Yes, I would’ve loved if there were more insectoids like Bog King, rather than just insects, cause his design is by far the coolest. Griselda being more like him —as his mother— just makes sense.

I wish we saw more of Griselda than just being comic relief for Bog’s Miseryᵀᴹ, instead showing who she was as a person/ruler before he became king.

The Unseelie/goblin court is a very warrior-based culture, fighting for both dominance and apparent courtship in the movie:

I picture Griselda as a powerful warrioress (hence her redesign as a stag beetle) winning the heart of the former Unseelie king through combat and becoming Queen that way before she retired.

As for Plum, I really hate her character in the movie. Her morality is so muddied; she’s clearly aware what she’s giving is not real love, she never gets any real retribution for the horrors she causes and she still acts shameless by the end, which sends a weird message.

I don’t understand why she wasn’t the overarching villain, especially since everyone in both Fairy Kingdom and the Dark Forest was written to be Terrified of her. She’s a big missed opportunity to show off the darker aspects of fairies and more clearly express that love potions/forced love is inherently horror (something the movie tried and failed to say. Sunny is such a bad character, man…).

strange magic could have been soooo good if it were good. in my mind the bog king could have been a tragic villain who resented love for having it be forced upon him via love spell and thats why he hates love and stuff

That could’ve been cool too!

I personally prefer the version of Bog that likely got manipulated by Sugar Plum into thinking he needed the potion (perhaps after digging into pre-existing insecurities), so now he hates love more out of deep-rooted shame for what he did and wants to prevent it from happening again.

This is a really interesting juxtaposition, cause despite Bog being the ‘villain’, Roland (the captain of the supposed ‘good side’) has no issue using the potion to get what he wants (status, power etc.) and will lie and cheat to get it.

Bog, who ‘hates princesses’ —(perhaps more the arrogance of the high class, but it also implies he doesn’t care about social status in his partners at least)— loves Marianne for who she really is and learns that he doesn’t need a potion for her to love him back; whereas Roland doesn’t even like her personality, seen as early as their first scene together. She’s nothing but a means to an end for him to become king.

Slightly unrelated, but I would’ve loved for Roland to be more cunning and scheming. It would’ve made him more effective as the real villain of the story, cause in the movie he mostly comes across as a vain airhead whose first love is his hair and then the crown.

Okay, I know you've said you're okay with fanfics about your Greek Mythology AU if you're credited, so I was wondering if I could use some of the details from Karl's gorgon design in a redesign for a different gorgon character I'm plan on doing a fanfic for eventually.

I really liked the idea of the wings and tail and wanted to have the redesign incorporate that, the fic isn't a Resident Evil one though so I wanted to check and see first if you still wanted to see/read it if you didn't know the source material!

I wasn't sure if it was a common thing for people to design gorgon characters like that, although even if it's not uncommon, you were still the direct source of inspiration for that design for me so I just wanted to ask if it's okay if I used it if I tagged and credited you for the design once I eventually draw and introduce the redesign into my fanfic? 😍😁

Thanks for asking!:)

I was inspired by old greek art of Medusa to make my interpretation of gorgon!karl, so the wings and tail aren’t a trademark or anything— feel free to use them!:))

As long as it’s not a direct copy of my design or the story I’ve written about it, it’s fine👍 I’m flattered you were inspired by it!
