I recently saw your strange magic art. I knew the fandom through Tumblr before seeing the movie; safe to say I kinda prefer how the fandom has managed the story. Your concepts are really cool; I especially like how you manage the dark forest creatures to look more like insects. Griselda especially looks great! And I like how Plum was the one who manipulated Bog into using the potion, and that she is a Villain.
Thank you!!✨
Yes, I would’ve loved if there were more insectoids like Bog King, rather than just insects, cause his design is by far the coolest. Griselda being more like him —as his mother— just makes sense.
I wish we saw more of Griselda than just being comic relief for Bog’s Miseryᵀᴹ, instead showing who she was as a person/ruler before he became king.
The Unseelie/goblin court is a very warrior-based culture, fighting for both dominance and apparent courtship in the movie:
I picture Griselda as a powerful warrioress (hence her redesign as a stag beetle) winning the heart of the former Unseelie king through combat and becoming Queen that way before she retired.
As for Plum, I really hate her character in the movie. Her morality is so muddied; she’s clearly aware what she’s giving is not real love, she never gets any real retribution for the horrors she causes and she still acts shameless by the end, which sends a weird message.
I don’t understand why she wasn’t the overarching villain, especially since everyone in both Fairy Kingdom and the Dark Forest was written to be Terrified of her. She’s a big missed opportunity to show off the darker aspects of fairies and more clearly express that love potions/forced love is inherently horror (something the movie tried and failed to say. Sunny is such a bad character, man…).
