The vast majority of conservatives think of themselves as underdogs being repressed by the government/the elite, and they value personal freedom (specifically their personal freedom, they don’t care about other people). The will almost always agree with leftist points if you can find a way to blame the problem on their vague enemies (useful, since rich people are the root of most problems), and tie it back to their ability to say fuck everyone else. NEVER appeal to science, theory, logic, or human goodness. Make it seem as if you are a paranoid lunatic who trusts no one. They love it.

Something I realized last night while talking to a friend is that so much of my experience and transition history as well as present day choices revolve around the ever-slim space I’ve carved out over years where I can be butch and masculine without immediately being misgendered and seen as a man.

I’m not a man. I’m masculine, I’m butch.

Being seen as a man can be uncomfortable for me, less than it used to be but if I’m completely honest it’s still not something I enjoy. But being masculine is the only way I’ve ever felt remotely comfortable and JOYFUL about who I am and how I present.

And henceforth I exist in these margins where by transitioning via estrogen hormone replacement therapy I’ve carved out a tiny space between these dysphoria inducing cells.

If I could press a button and never be seen as a man again I’d be so much more masculine and butch and dyke shaped.

As is most days i’m glad to have boobs but that’s exclusively because they most consistently make people think i’m not a man. If that wasn’t required then I’d be much happier with a flat chest, I feel. I love the look and some days I feel genuinely dysphoric about all that bouncing tissue.

If not shaving didn’t make people think I’m a guy instantly I’d love to be a dyke that rocks a beard.

btw "you are allowed to hate your oppressor" is about Your Personal Feelings As An Individual. that you are allowed to have whatever feelings you have about your experience being oppressed, and the fact that rage and hatred can be a powerful motivator to break away from the status quo and engage in revolutionary action against oppression, does not mean that no one is allowed to criticize an approach to liberation that is centered on rage and hatred given the very well recorded downsides to such an approach.

like "well POC are allowed to hate white people so women are allowed to hate men!" yeah and also, Malcom X himself realized he was wrong to disregard allyship with white people because coalition building between working class people of different races was actually quite important to overthrowing racial capitalism. plenty of feminists activists (particularly women of color, bisexuals, trans people, sex workers) have criticized feminism for separatism and gender essentialism and reluctance to form necessary coalitions across gender to meaningfully resist racist capitalist patriarchy.

none of this means You The Individual are not allowed to feel the emotion of hate in response of oppression, or that that emotion needs to be suppressed or stigmatized or shouldn't help motivate your resistance. but it's just naive and shortsighted to stop your revolutionary thought there.

Frankly I think a lot of Tumblr users think there is no overlap between trans women and gay men like there is between trans men and lesbians 1. because RuPaul did a great job intentionally convincing at least two generations of baby queers that gay men and trans women don't share culture because he's a transmisogynist piece of shit who intentionally kept trans women off Drag Race for years - shattering the perception of our community overlap in the eyes of the mainstream, 1.5. and that culture he cultivated in the mainstream made you afraid of drag as an art so you're uncurious about it, and 2. you're afraid of learning about balls because they're not sanitized white queer culture.

I need it to be so clear that I said "our community overlap" so intentionally because as nonbinary as I am, being a gay man is also a deeply important part of my identity.

Wonderfully faggotty trans women who fuck around with gender and sexuality and do drag* were hugely influential when it came to my own realization that I not only could but also explicitly *wanted* to blur the lines between man and woman too. I owe them so much. We share this wonderful space in gay and trans identity together that I'm eternally thankful for and despise RuPaul for erasing.
