I've seen multiple people who don't actually know what a precision puzzle platformer is cite the 2D Sonic the Hedgehog games as examples of the type, and now I'm trying to imagine a true precision puzzle platformer with Sonic the Hedgehog's fuckass aerial physics. The mental image is... stark.

I am now specifically imagining Super "Sonic Saves the World" World¹ with Sonic physics rather than Mario physics. It is harrowing.

¹ A Super Mario World romhack by Maddy Thorson

the best piece of writing advice I got was from my creative nonfiction professor when I turned in Kill Yourself (a transgender metaphor, one of my favorites) which amounted to saying I'm not committing hard enough. The piece was somewhat gory and kinda painful but I wanted it to be visceral and he was literally the only one to see that. Every other person and professor would have said to make minor changes here and there but he was the one seeing I was holding back for the sake of the assignment. So, he told me to stop being scared and just write exactly what I wanted to say, to commit as hard as possible to the idea instead of testing the waters to see if im even allowed to. So I did, and he was right. The original lacked the conviction required to make the idea work, and the revision brought it to the level that truly let it shine

I won an award for this piece and I genuinely dont think I would have if I didn't get told to go harder. He was one of the only people in my life who truly just got it. A fantastic writer and story teller and part of it is that he's incredibly authentic, sometimes to his detriment.

Don't be afraid of your writing. It hurts putting your everything on display for everyone to see, but its only then when true beautiful writing can be created

Typical Disney-style story of a kingdom with an anxious new ruler whose inherited chief advisor has a goatee, dresses in black and red, smirks a lot and keeps a snake as a pet.

Every single villanous plot to overthrow the kind and ”weak” ruler fail because the advisor is 110% loyal but his vibes make all the baddies assume he’ll help out in the insidious coup plan so they recruit him, and he absolutely delights in puppeteering wannabe autocrats into digging their own graves. He doesn’t want to rule, he’s having way too much fun being a villain honey trap.

@froxictog wrote:

Oh I did mean to write that. Honeypot usually does imply sexuality but it doesn't have to be that. Dictionary.com says about honeypot: "a person or thing that acts as a lure or decoy in a trap, scam, or scheme".

So it's open to interpretation, like the rest of the character concept.

I think a neat idea would be for him to actually be a honeypot in the sexual way, but what he's really after is that moment of horror when a rich, stuck-up (usually) man who has never been told or accepted a "no", realizes that not only did the advisor totally ruin their plans but also very intentionally toyed with their heart. It's *raps fingertips together* deliiightful.

Right, but I mean, you didn't write "honeypot", you wrote "honey trap" which is, I think, a lot closer to the "requires" end of the requires<->implies sexuality axis. Hence my question.

I am 100% here for it, though.

I apologize, I completely misread what you meant as well as mentally filled in "honey pot" in my original post instead of what it actually says which is "trap", as you point out. I've had to deal with the holier-than-thou-puritans on this site before so my brain constructed the idea that you were pearl-clutching at the implication. That's 100% my bad.

In fairness, I could have phrased it more clearly on my end.

Now I'm thinking of the dynamic early on in the new monarch's reign, before they're actually read in on what's going on. All they know is that their chief advisor keeps flirting with and otherwise showing interest in people who are later found with a desk full of assassination plots or what have you. Thinking "damn, my grand vizier has never steered me wrong on matters of policy but he sure does have some dogshit taste in partners".

do it grieving

do it while the ground falls out from under you; do it while everything you loved goes up in smoke; do it while the dream of your future is still burning embers around you; build anew on the hot ashes of everything you worked for; keep going, keep loving, keep living, even as all you want is to turn back (there is no turning back; it is gone already); do it through grief, which feels like fear in the body

do it grieving

The tag I have seen most often on this post is "I needed to hear this," and I am so, so grateful to have said something that was needed. These words came out of the depths of my own grief, and I am so grateful to have made this small connection with others in the midst of it. Grief is isolating and indescribable, but none of us are alone.

That said, these tags were what I needed to hear:

we're all gonna make it

it's okay if you can't see how yet. you don't have to believe in better. for now it is enough to just keep going, and eventually the path will emerge. you are not alone. you are not lost in the woods forever. keep going. I love you.

Tonight's Hitherby: "A Castle That Ceases to Move Soon Dies"

It is told that there is a girl, and her name is Claire, and she lives in one of the castles of the seventh tier—that is to say, above the umbral depths of the first tier, where great shapes move in shadow; and above the twisty purple smoke of the second tier; and above, too, the gentle yellow mist of the third; above the fourth and its clash of blades; above the fifth and its great fire; and even above the sixth tier’s ocean and all its gentle waves. There, on the floating islands and atolls there are the castles of the Mere, and in one of them, in the creaking crumbling vine-wrapped stone castle they call Seferi, lives Claire.

Sam Handwich.

If Pikiwedia says it it must be true.

I made Pikiwedia real. Works for any Wikipedia page. Use this wisely :)‌

Goodmorning to the Anthropic Claude AI training scraper that suddenly decided to request 660 thousand pages (exactly the number I had remaining on the starter plan) and brought Pikiwedia down.

Sudden switch from diverse user agents like chrome, safari, messenger preview to Just Claudebot. I'm not even mad though, this is maybe the funniest thing possible, because I've inadvertently poisoned their training data with thousands of fucked up articles with normal urls.

Pikiwedia perseveres, back up with a better robots.txt. I hope Anthropic has a gery vood time with Pikiwedia's data :))

this was in my damn bed. I was feeling around in the dark for a second pillow. I thought the pillow had gauze stuck to it. when i tried to toss the wad of gauze in the trash, it grabbed my face. at that point i got confused and turned on the lights. unauthorized fucking thing

why is “olde vampires in high school” the big thing and not “olde vampires in college”

  • everyone in college is eccentric. everyone
  • you wanna wear full on Victorian suit? the girl in pajamas who clearly hasn’t slept in three days supports you
  • everyone is too preoccupied to care as long as you’re polite and follow class etiquette
  • multiple high school diplomas? eh. same stuff. multiple BAs? Enjoy learning chemistry AND art history! All in detail!
  • wandering around campus at 3am? that’s just the lifestyle tm
  • no matter how old or young you look it’s not really that weird, there’s sixteen year olds and sixty year olds doing BAs somewhere
  • big schools are very anonymous so nobody’s gonna bother to hassle you

consider: vampire PhD students and postdocs, because in addition to all of the above:

  • been at the same campus for 57 years? seems legit

I think I was well-served in the long run by having already come to terms with being a freak and an outcast many, many years before I came out as a transsexual.

I heard all these horror stories like "You'll have a hard time finding a job and everyone will think you're a big weirdo and you'll be subject to a panopticon of social scrutiny and face violent bigotry" and I had thought Well all of that stuff is already happening to me anyways so why not, you'll hang for a sheep as well as a lamb

Feels like there's a significant intracommunity divide between those of us who were already living on the outskirts of life and those who see themselves as temporarily embarassed average citizens

Ok, so, bottom surgery recovery is going ~splendidly~ tbh, I’ve been off opioids basically all week, she’s healing well, she even looks pretty which at under the one-month mark is making me feel pretty optimistic. The only problems it’s giving me are that sometimes if I see something really gross it makes my body feel like it’s trying to suck itself inward from my vagina, like a black hole generated by the power of “ew ew ew,” and that healing is really tiring so I’m like…always sleepy. But tbh most of bottom surgery recovery has been peaceful, I’ve had a lot of time to do some self-reflection (which I hate, doing my own therapy as a patient suuuuuucks), BUT, I do have one funny story:

Right as I wake up there’s a nurse there who hustles over and says he’s glad he saw me wake up and tells me he’s giving me some pain meds and then he gives me IV Fentanyl and so I go from like “Ow ow ow ow awake awake awake” to “ooooooh fuck I’m floating on clouds made of rainbows” in like 6 seconds and so I was pretty out of it. The hospital had all the recently-post op patients all in one big-ass room, and they see patients for ALL sorts of surgeries, so I was next to an old guy who got his knee replaced on one side and some young 30-something dude with some kind of mechanism on his leg. So I asked him what happened since I was high as fuck and feeling kind as a result, and he said he broke his leg hiking off-trail when his leg went down a literal rabbit hole and snapped his shinbone. I say something like “damn dude that blowssssss” while giggling because I’m high as FUCK on actual fentanyl and he’s like “Yeah, for real, I’m feeling great right now though! What about you? What are you in here for?”

And I fully was not thinking like a person, I was thinking like a fentanyl-addled tgirl so I just go “Oh, haha, they cut my dick off!”

And he just kinda stops and is like “Hah-WAIT what? Why?” and I was trying to think of an acceptable answer to tell this cis guy because it’s dawning on me through my drug-induced haze that not everybody wants their penis gone and before I can think of a response two nurses just came up and…wheeled him away. Idk where to, and I don’t think he did either, because he kept looking back at me and frantically asking the nurses where they were taking him and I never gave him an adequate response so he probably thought he was gonna get that “Transgender for Everyone” shit before he was probably actually delivered to whoever his ride home was.
