“bits to use in everyday conversations”
i dislike it when someone is facing obviously disproportionate scrutiny for their actions because they are trans or Black or so on and people immediately leap to focusing on defending their actions and litigating the specifics, which cedes the implicit point that if they really did Do The Thing the response they are facing would be justified and often—unless their innocence is actually watertight—presents an extremely easy way for an interlocutor to score points on you while at the same time not meaningfully addressing the double standard
like how many times on here has a girl been termed and everyone jumped to say "she was banned for no reason, she never broke ToS", and then immediately been made to look foolish by the tranmisogynistic harassment crew who've made dedicated e-stalking blogs for her showing up with a screenshot of one time she suicide baited an anon or whatever. and there was literally no reason to set yourself up for that interaction when you literally could have started and ended with the existence of the mass stalking and harassment campaign !
the prisoner episode 1: arrival
i will say, even though the effects and the editing havent aged very well, the white bubble thing continues to be absolutely fucking terrifying. the way it moves, the way it ripples, the physicality of it.
at times it does look a bit silly, but when you see that thing floating ominously or moving towards a character it does get absolutely disturbing
also, its interesting how tv writing and storytelling in general has evolved with the years, i constantly find myself having to recalibrate my expectations of what a master manipulator looks like and how psychological control was seen in the past because to modern eyes number 2's current attempts to "break" number 6 as it were feel extremely sloppy and pedestrian
patrick mcgoohan does such a fantastic job at quietly displaying such utter, unrestrained contempt for everything going on around him in this show.
fuck, i really should have watched this show before writing the acquisition of fip industries, it would have been a far different stry if i had allowed it to be influenced by this
shelley gets a lotta fuckin cred for ozymandias despite only writing like one and a half lines and then just straight up quoting that traveller from an antique land he met for the rest of the poem
What do you think about Hank Green using AI?
Context for anyone who doesn't know: Someone accused Hank of using AI to write his videos because some of his phrasing "sounded like AI." Hank denies that he writes scripts with it, but said he does use it to find research papers (that he then reads and interprets on his own) and occasionally to bounce writing ideas off of. After a few days of internet meltdown, he posted an apology and explained that he thinks he's getting too dependent on AI and is going to cut back on his usage because he doesn't think his current work process is healthy for him.
I'm way late on this one, but since I'm talking about AI - I think it's literally fine and it got blown way out of proportion by a bunch of people who seem to have it out for Hank. He used it as a search engine and then verified the info it gave him - what could possibly be the issue with that, other than "AI bad and anyone who uses it for any reason bad"?
Hank also had a recent "controversy" with his knitting video - I watched that video and there was like, one line that was kind of dismissive towards knitting as an art form. I didn't see any real problem with it but people still constantly bring up the video as proof that he's a misogynistic fraud and that his videos are full of errors.
And now some people who skimmed the whole AI thing are spreading the idea that he writes all his stuff with AI, and sanctimonious fans are graciously "forgiving" Hank for the heinous crime of essentially using a search engine, and the whole thing is yet another in what is becoming a string of "controversies" around Hank that upon investigation turn out to be nothing.
Given what happened to John on this website, I'm fairly suspicious. Not that anyone is intentionally instigating things, but just that the same parasocial mores are going to wind up creating a similar situation, and I hope Hank taking a step back and dialing back production a little bit might help prevent that.
Sorry, my what? My pronouns? Oh, yeah I'm between genders at the moment. No, it's cool, I quit my last gender a little while ago because it really wasn't working out. I don't know if I even have a dream gender anymore.
Oh yeah, it did come with benefits, but they weren't really worth it. The culture was really toxic. To be honest I think I'd prefer a part-time gender so I can just be self-described in my spare time.
I mean, in a perfect world we wouldn't need gender, you know? We could just voluntarily be perceived as much as we're able, as much as makes us feel fulfilled. Having a full-time gender shouldn't be a prerequisite for food, shelter, and healthcare.
where's the future we were promised where robots do the gender for us
Petra Parker has to go to an endo who specializes in treating super powered clientele and the whole time she's really worried that her endo is going to get involved with a shady scientific experiment that goes wrong and turns them into a tragic villain that she has to fight later. but it just never happens and instead she's blindsided when it happens to her favorite deli guy
ok, not putting a lot of emphasis on this theory because im pretty sure it was already disproved, but this idea that each hero was "More evil" than the last, it would be really funny if this world is some omelas type situation or some such other kind of backwards place where like slavery is good or whatever and each hero was actually more against it than the last one
