While we're talking about representation in minecraft projects, I've been encouraged to point out this trend I noticed when I started the bmcytu list, where many of the creators on the list are only one or two degrees of separation away from the owners of large mainstream servers.

In Hermitcraft, for example, there's BigB, who knows and has collaborated with multiple hermits for years, and JamalMC who is (astonishingly) the first and only black person to ever step foot on the hermitcraft server, and was invited to, I believe, every server tour. For POW, there's obviously Michela and Shandrea, who have been in previous POW projects, but also MoonIntensity and Knivesbow, who come from the same content creator circles as Infinitedrift. This also connects them to The Flight SMP, where other creators from that circle, like Ambear and former member Marma1ade were added. Also connected is Shandrea, who knows multiple of the Lifesteal members who were added.

All of this is to say, it is more than possible for these and other big servers to invite more black creators. "Black creators" isn't a nebulous hypothetical group, it's people that the server owners know or have mutual connections with, and who they should be putting in more effort to support

Quick PSA for the POW Creations / PanSMP fandom because I unfortunately do need to make this post.

Hello-hello! I’m Krash, I am half-Greek IRL. My dad’s side of the family is from Greece and Cyprus, and I live in America. I tend to avoid Greek mythology spaces online such as the PJ and Epic fandom because people are very… I hesitate to say racist, but very abnormal about how they interact with the Greek mythos, ethnicity, and overall culture. Unfortunately, the PanSMP community is starting to follow in that trend (and the server isn't even out yet, mind you).

Onto the point of this post- if you yourself are not Greek, it is not your place to be upset or offended by portrayals of the gods or myths- this is INCLUDING non-Greek people that converted to Hellenic Polytheism and well-read fans of the mythology.

People in these spaces tend to forget that this is a real culture that belongs to a real people, and that we are still around. Greek myths are still Greek, regardless of if the modern culture is identical to the ancient one or not. The modern culture is more centered on Eastern Orthodoxy, but the ancient culture and stories are very much still relevant! Modern Greeks (in my experience) generally treat the mythos more as folklore, but it is still something that holds a lot of our pride and ethnic identity- them being stories that survived for as long as they did.

It can be very upsetting seeing our old myths / gods taken entirely outside of their cultural context; non-Greeks policing what is or is not an “authentic” portrayal of them while erasing Greek features, mocking Greek names (“telemarketer” and “antibiotics” being recent examples), sexualizing the ancient clothing (often using SWANA and SEA aesthetics to do so), and using Hellenic Polytheism (the modern revival of the old religion) to claim a heritage that isn’t theirs and then use this to erase / talk over modern Greeks.

So far the PanSMP space has only had the “policing authenticity” part of the above issues, but I wanted to mention the rest to avoid a future headache.

TL:DR; You are allowed to dislike aspects of PanSMP, you are allowed to prefer different versions of the myths, but please remember that the majority of you are a guest in this culture- it is not yours.

That said, PanSMP has presented a very fun and engaging concept that is fully respectful!! I trust POW Creations and the CCs to handle it well and look forward to watching the SMP when it drops! :D

Your portrait for pantheon SMP was released, yay! Will there be any backstory as to why your character is male presenting and Artemis is the goddess of maidens? And has a whole group of female hunters who are very gender exclusive? All cool if not, was just curious ^-^

Simply put, I'm just approaching it as "Why would Artemis subject any woman to additional suffering? Throw a man to the wolves!" - that's an out of character mindset. We've filmed ep1 and her selection of me hasn't come up in conversation and I imagine it probably won't. We've all be chosen for one reason or another and we're too far beneath the gods to understand why I suppose.

I chose Artemis because Hermes was taken and she fits my swift movement / sneaky hunter / prowling way of playing SMPs, so it was a nice fit utility wise

I'm not trying to be a history teacher or rewrite the texts. I'm essentially just playing Smite in Minecraft lol - So even if it's considered a flawed choice by some, you shouldn't deep it. I'm just vibin'

Blindsided

skelew - 2098 words - 1/? chapters

Around the Captain’s waist is a coat Ren knows very well.
Ren never did recover his Hand’s body. It was taken by the pirates who killed him. Pirates like the Captain, who now wears the coat like a twisted trophy.
This is the man who killed Martyn.
Ren is so beyond the point of being afraid for his worthless, meaningless life. If he can make the Captain bleed for what he's done, then it will all have been worth it.

TREEBARK WEEK DAY 6: WAR/KING/TIME TOOK A BIT BUT CHAPTER ONE IS HERE

i intended to post the full thing today in a like 10k+ oneshot, but i couldnt get it to turn out as i wanted it, so i decided to do it in chapters to make sure it was all as great as it could possibly be. laughs, i think im a bit burnt out from doing every single day in treebark week? so i ran out of steam a bit.

hopefully you guys can forgive me for that! the trade off is this will probably end up longer and more detailed now that im not rushing it

If Martyn had been the Red to brave the tower instead of Ren, Martyn's death would've changed everything.

Ren's allies spent the entire session trying to get him to attack first, and he refused. Bdubs argued that his enemies wouldn't show him the same mercy he showed them. Cleo offered up her life to incentivise him to build a trap. Scott and Scar tried to get Ren to be enemies with them. Impulse killed three people before he turned Red because Ren would never activate the trap himself.

The only thing that could've made Ren a killer was if Martyn was the one to enter the tower instead.

Ren has always died before or moments after Martyn, except for in Wild Life. That's when we saw Martren. When he let grief consume him to a level where it literally began consuming him, where he was willing to risk life and limb for revenge. When Martyn is gone, Ren loses his peace.

Ren's quest, the quest he's been on since he returned to the games, is to save Martyn. He came back to "rid him of the evil in his heart" and proclaimed he wouldn't stop until Martyn was himself again.

Ren knows he's too kind for the games. He knows he isn't scary or vicious or mean. The only time when Ren was unapologetically mean was when he became the Red King, and to him, that wasn't Ren at all. That was when he met Martyn, who prides himself on being a fighter. Martyn followed the Red King to his grave, and it made Ren willing to follow Martyn to his.

Ren returned to save Martyn because he wasn't himself anymore. He couldn't be himself, because he'd won a game with deceit and betrayal. No one would ever want to kill unless they were something else, like he was with the Red King.

But Martyn died. He was killed before he got the chance to save him. And, for the first time, Ren understood him. He understood the revenge, the fear, the "evil in his heart."

He understood the want to be something else.

And he became it.

In Last life, Ren was the second last player and he died honourably

In Limited life, Martyn, without Ren, won by betrayal and lost his honour

In Wild life, Ren said he would get rid of the evil in his heart. Martren was born

In past life, Martyn tried to make Ren less kind and failed. He won the game honourably in the end.

He got rid of the evil in his heart.
