Hi :) I want to learn more about the number of children who were transported here as convicts. Could you please share a source for the 33 000 convicts under 20 figure? I'd be interested to read.
i got it from a book i can’t remember which one (i study australian history so i go through history books like crazy) but the libraries tasmania site says the same thing and talks a little more about convicts and what kind of convicts were sent to australia! let me know if you have any further questions mate xx

like you can never really un see it once you’ve seen it. the convict stain is so deeply imbedded in our culture that anti colonial aussies genuinely believe with all their heart that it is somehow “better” and more moral to be descended from free settlers then convicts. no the fact that australia has other settlers from other parts of the world isn’t a positive. it’s bad. because there shouldn’t be settlers. of any race or background. because australia shouldn’t be a colony. why is this so hard for you to understand
the more and more you try to have hard conversations about other aussies about the the nature of this nation as a settler colonial project built specifically to genocide and subjugate indigenous people to extract resources to the benefit of first the british crown then the entire imperial core and the settler class in so called australia, which consists of any non indigenous person whom resides here, the more and more you will realise australians don’t want an end to colonialism they want the elusive colonialism but woke. they want colonialism but pro immigrant and lgbt and #reconciliation

Making this a reblog: at the risk of making a hasty generalisation, this seems to be a consistent trend among Ukrainian Tumblr users. There is never any material analysis of what led to this war, not even from an ostensibly western perspective, it's always just fairytale thinking to the tune of "Ukraine, a bastion of European Culture and Democracy vs. the r-country, a demonic horde of orcs that just loves eating people". Like uh... some materialism won't kill you...
