You've got to be more afraid of abandoning yourself than disappointing other people.

"you don't owe anyone anything" You are a tar pit. Speak for yourself. I personally owe the cafe employees my dishes put away and my friends a listening ear and small scared insects a cup and a gentle trip outside. Hyperindividualism is a rancid infection borne of capitalism and willfully misinterpreted therapyspeak and I will defy it by continuing to be kind regardless of whether or not it benefits me personally

*through gritted teeth* the world is GOOD. people are kind. Humans are NOT inherently selfish. you will make it through this year. recovery is possible. people you don't know yet will love you. You are going to do things you can't even imagine right now. You are going to read a rlly good book. You are going to eat some rlly good food. You are going to experience joy again. Things can get better. Situations can change. You can choose to be kinder. The world can change for the better.

friendly reminder to not feed wild animals. “but they’re in the wild and alone so they must be hungry!” The wild animal is fine. It gets its own food. Please please PLEASE do not food condition wild animals, it is terrible for them. I can’t believe people still have to say this.

Adding to this (in complete agreement) to say that if wanting to feed animals is important to you- plant a wildlife safe garden and don't chase off the critters that do things like eat the seeds on your sunflowers or the ripe strawberries, blueberries or blackberries. Find out what native plants are missing from your area and put them in that garden if you can. Use a plant saucer and make a permanent puddle that you refresh and clean every week.

The issue is specifically that you do not want wild animals to see -you- as a direct source of food. That food cannot come from your hand, but you can use your hands to grow critter food that they can find by themselves on plants and in bird feeders.

Adding on in agreement, part of the issue can be that the foods bought from the store don't provide all the nutrients an animal needs. Sometimes bird feeders can be a means of disease transmission.

Planting native plants, especially willows, cherry-genus, and oaks helps a lot, because they provide habitat and both directly and indirectly feed birds by feeding the food web. But if you don't have space for a shrub or tree, herbaceous plants are also great!

If you don't know where to start, looking for keystone plant species is a great option. Here's some websites that tell you what's native to your ecoregion, at least if you're in:

North America:

Or specifically the U.S.: https://xerces.org/pollinator-conservation/pollinator-friendly-plant-lists

https://map.homegrownnationalpark.org/

Another issue not rly mentioned here is that it's not great to feed wildlife because it can artificially inflate population and cause animals to cross streets to get to the food source. If you feed a bunch of deer, they will make a lot more deer, and sometimes an ecosystem cannot handle that many deer. They should be eating what's out there, and if there's not enough to support them, you shouldn't be feeding them; that's nature babey.

Just so we’re clear, if I point out that you did something racist, that’s not the same as me thinking you’re irremediably terrible. You did a racist thing.

unthrifty--loveliness-deactivat

You think you don’t do racist things, homophobic things, etc? You do. I caught myself in fat phobic and homophobic lines of thinking/speech just this morning. I’m fucking gay married. Nothing disqualifies you from acting in a way that reflects the society you exist in. We are obliged to fight it. Why not fight it in honesty and with camaraderie?

as a child being told "the moon controls the tides" with no additional explanation was like. oh okay. you want me to believe in magic? you're talking about magic right now? okay. fine

sorry. only semi-related but i simply wasn't ready for "the sun is a distant gorilla". thank you NASA

i'm so fucking over it

The reason your snacks are unsatisfying is that you need both carb and protein.

Carb starts your engine, protein keeps it going.

No carb, engine don’t start. No protein, engine dies out fast.

Easy carb add on:

  • Cookie
  • Fruit (canned or fresh)
  • Chips
  • Piece of bread
  • Popcorn
  • Crackers

Easy protein add on:

  • Nuts
  • Spoonful of nut butter
  • Cheese
  • Roasted chickpea snacks
  • Glass of milk (dairy or non dairy)
  • Small canned sausages or similar

Sugar in there.

I am pleased by people messaging me telling me that after adding a carb or protein to their snacks or meals they feel more satisfied all day. Yes, my plan is working. People are getting through their days with less hangry.
