white people please just purchase native artwork and jewelry from native people i keep seeing idiot white people be like “waaah i wish i could support native creators but its cultural appropriation” girl why would beaders sell you their earrings then. just dont get a medicine wheel or a thunderbird then like damn it is that easy

If Native folks are making it to sell to white people with the approval of their tribe, it’s not “appropriation”–its support and appreciation! So yes, buy that native-made dream catcher, but not the mass produced fakes made by white people. Like, you can go to a pow wow and buy native crafts there, too.

This Fossil Friday, scoot into the weekend with Scutosaurus karpinskii: the “shield lizard.” This large herbivore lived during the Late Permian some 253 million years ago. It’s part of an early group of sauropsids known as pareiasaurs. The pareiasaurs had spikes and thickened knobs around their skulls, as well as peg-like teeth adapted for eating plants. Their fossils have been found in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Spot this one in the Museum’s Hall of Vertebrate Origins!

the other thing about Internet dogpiling is that it is just not possible to think clearly during the acute stages. it’s so easy to criticize people for responding defensively or tactlessly to mass criticism but I cannot overstate the degree to which your brain becomes a rat in a trap. I think we do have to temporarily recalibrate our expectations in these circumstances and accept that they do not necessarily represent how that person responds to criticism. the skills for self-regulating and reacting to normal interpersonal criticism are not the same skills needed to respond to viral callouts.

Most recent projections state that by 2035 the Dodgers will have contractual control over 92% of MLB players, compared with 7% by the Yankees and 1% by all other teams. All players are likely to be part of phylum Chordata, with only a 0.0005% chance of a professional baseball player from Phylum Arthropoda joining the MLB or MiLB by 2050. This, of course, assumes the Tampa Bay Rays will not be including recessed aquaria on the field in their new stadium to support Molluscan players, an idea no one associated with the Tampa Bay Rays organization has ever expressed or implied any interest in. We should expect that any sufficiently skilled player with a high salary will play for the Los Angeles Dodgers regardless of taxonomy.
