idk it's just Shane reaching for Ilya's hand on the team bus and Ilya dragging Shane onto the ice by his hand for practice and Shane and Ilya holding hands waiting for the hotel coffee machine and Ilya sitting on Shane's left at tape review so Shane can still take notes if they hold hands and Shane scrolling on his phone while Ilya catches up with Harris and they're holding hands and
Ilya opening a gatorade and passing it on without looking, Shane mid-conversation at the bar tilting his head for a drive-by kiss unprompted, an annoyingly complicated handshake ritual before each game, checking each other into the boards to steal a headbutt, Shane getting to the sandwiches first and grabbing Ilya’s favourite, Ilya producing a spare roll of stick tape from nowhere, holding doors for each other, making breakfast, "can you grab my phone and text Rose—" and "your mom wants to know—" and "hey. by the way. we're married"
getting in my last wishes before filming starts on monday. this is the number one line delivery i HAVE to see in s2
From Shane's day one with the Centaurs he is just in for the bit when it comes to Ilya's antics and he is Ilya's biggest enabler.
Admittedly, Ilya was a bit worried before that first day, thinking off all the silly stories he made up for his team just funsies and how Shane is actually the only one who knows him so well that he could read Ilya for filth and expose it all. Shane is funny, his chirps are deadly, but how far is he willing to go along with Ilya's bullshittery?
Turns out, very far. Til the end of the world, probably.
Luca immediately asks Shane if it's true that Ilya is a descendent of the Romanov family? Yes, Shane answers without batting an eye, Ilya is royalty, technically, and through their marriage, he is as well.
Did Ilya really have to fight a bear in the Siberian winter when he was just 14 years old, Bood asks. Oh, totally, and afterwards, he still had to walk through one-metre-high snow for ten kilometres to get to school, Shane answers conversationally, absolutely impressive isn't it? (Shane has to raise his eyebrow at his purebred city boy of a husband afterwards).
Holmberg asks if Ilya really got invited to a friendly race against a few F1 drivers in Monaco and actually won? Yeah, beat Lewis Hamilton, Shane answers with a feigned eye roll. By 0.35 seconds, Shane and Ilya answer in unison, and Ilya winks at Shane.
But Ilya doesn't really have contacts with the Bratva, does he, Dillion asks, obviously slightly terrified. Shane shrugs and is like, yeah, well I can't tell to which extent, but I mean it was an open secret that Rozanov gave out season tickets to his special friends, if you know what I mean. And I know you had this rookie in Boston, Ilya, what was his name, I don't know, the lame one? Yeah, Miller, right, couldn't keep up with the speed on the wing. He disappeared, must be 8 years ago now? Can't find any trace of him, anywhere. Of course it's only rumours but...
This will be the best seaon ever, Ilya decided then and there. Playing with his husband/hockey king/best friend/soulmate is already a dream coming true. But honest, earnest Shane, with his deadpan expression and good boy reputation will make the perfect partner in crime.
“Shane, how does it feel to be back on Montreal ice?”
one of the many things I love about Harris Drover is that his family owns an apple orchard and he DOES make apples his whole personality. apple pins apple shampoo apple everything. as a person who owns 8 pairs of strawberry earrings without the excuse of a wholesome thriving family business, I just feel so represented
it’s very sad but very dear to me that while ilya in the long game is very depressed and has absolutely zero self esteem and thinks of himself as the worst captain ever, in role model that is just demonstrably untrue. like. troy’s internal monologue about him is just how it’s crazy that he’s on the same team as him and that he’s so good at everything. harris is so happily confused about his antics. luca haas hero worships him. the rest of the team is obviously just incredibly fond of him. every time we catch a glimpse of him he’s being great with kids and dogs or is supporting his friends in some way. his speech and resolve is the entire motivation behind the centaurs making it to the playoffs. like! ilya rozanov i fear you will never know how loved you are
a little carter VAUGHN 💜 for @hollanovulation
Ilya offers Shane a piece of his mandarin orange, and Shane says no thanks.
"I thought you like oranges?"
"I do. I just... I don't like the membranes," Shane says, looking embarrassed
"The what?" asks Ilya.
"It's the layer around the segments—around the pieces. I don't like the texture," he says, glancing away. Ilya does know the word texture, Shane knows, because it comes up a lot when Shane talks about food.
"So take it off."
"I usually do. It just takes forever."
Ilya's big, rough hands suddenly start gently removing the membrane from a segment of mandarin. He holds it to Shane's lips.
"You don't have to—"
"Oh, I don't have to? Thanks, I didn't know. I'm going to do it anyway. Get loved, asshole."
He pushes the piece of mandarin against Shane's lips, and he grins a little as Shane relents. From then on, any time they are eating together and one of them has a mandarin, Ilya takes it from him and peels the membrane off for him.
Okay, that was the wholesome part of the post, now get ready for the holesome part.
will I be burnt at the stake if I say that I don’t think Ilya’s fuckboy persona is entirely an act. will people draw and quarter me if I say that I think he is a different person with different people and none of them are entirely separate from who he is. will people stone me if I say that ilya loved being a fuckboy and loved sleeping around at the time and had a fucking blast doing what and who he wanted even if he wanted to be with shane for most of it.
Like I think people eschew that persona from him too aggressively in favor of making him a Soft Boi but there are multiple facets to ilya and I dont think any of them are necessarily fake. Just because he used promiscuity to cope doesn’t mean he didn’t have a marvelous time participating in it. That man loved pussy. He loved fucking pussy and eating pussy and making women come and whine his name. You cannot convince me otherwise. He was a very proud slut. Just because Shane made a housewife out of a hoe doesn’t make the Hoe Phase not genuine. U feel me?
came across this frame while editing and guys... i am not okay
I do think the Hank Green AI thing makes it abundantly clear that if you have ADHD or any other mental illness and/or you are prone to addiction you need to avoid AI at all costs. This shit will rope you in, and if you have a mental illness that say, starves your brain of dopamine, you're gonna be extra susceptible to that. I won't use AI for a lot of reasons but one of the big ones is knowing how it would fuck with my ADHD and bipolar. Like yes, it's bad for the environment and giving money to rich scumbags and runs on plagarism, but even more than all that, it's straight up not safe at all and you really shouldn't use it if for no other reason than to protect yourself from whatever the fuck it might do to you.
