OK time to update this. I've been on here for about 11 years and I have 10,000! followers so I think its safe to say I'm not new around here anymore. First off I want to say thanks to everyone who follows me as well as those who just stop by. I never knew there were so many people I could relate to on the internet but there it is. A few notes. 1. I'm trying to keep this safe for work but I do occasionally post NSFW things. Rarely but sorry if they pop up at work in advance. 2. I used to get a lot of probably well deserved flak for spamming the reblog too much. To that I say meh. However I do now use a que so that should be at least less of an issue. I honestly didn't use it because I didn't have the time. Please keep in mind I try to reblog the maximum 250 things a day and its sometimes really hard to find that many things that I think are worthy of reblogging. Honestly the que has made it easier to maintain this blog in some ways and harder in others. 3. As you can see from #2 I tend to ramble. 4. According to my counter(see below) only about 47% of the people who visit me are from the US. Maybe 60% are from countries that use English as a first language. To the other 40% thank you for following my blog and I'm sorry I only know English or else I would like and reblog more things in other languages. That's the beauty of tumblr though. You only need pretty or interesting pictures to catch my notice. 5. Again sorry for rambling. 6. If I don't follow you back it's nothing personal. As is I follow almost 5,000 blogs so my dashboard is usually clogged to say the least. 7. Again thank you all very much for liking my blog. I wish you all the best.

a lot of things seem hopeless right now. i just want to say that its not. despite everything, there are still good things. let me remind you, that-

there are over 243 kākāpo, and it is the first breeding season in four years. at least 74 of their eggs so far are fertile and have potential to hatch. in 1995 there were 51. [1]

there are 607 california condors as of last year. in 1987 there were 27. [2, 3]

there are 110 'alalā (hawaiian crow), while they were pronounced extinct in the wild in the 1970s-80s. 5 have been released into the wild in the past 2 years. [4, 5]

there are over 319 wild mexican grey wolves, after numbering only 7 in 1977. [6, 7]

there are at least 1300 wild przewalski's horses, after they were pronounced extinct in the wild with only 31 captive individuals in 1945. [8, 9]

hell, they still have sperm from the last male northern white rhino and are attempting to have a southern white rhino be a surrogate mom with his & the last two female's eggs. [10]

i know things can feel hopeless but i work in this field. there is still hope out there because people do genuinely care. even if it just reassures you about the environment around us, there is still some hope out there.

humans are not inherently bad. i know it's easy to say it but i promise that we are not. the assumption that all of humanity is evil and morally reprehensible for the extinction of species- yes, including species that we drove extinct ourselves- is discounting the work of millions of people trying to stop it from happening again. humanity is not evil. there is still hope, and there is still time. never forget that.
