nobody understands this highly popular fictional character at all except for me and my carefully curated panel of mutuals
i know they’re eventually gonna fall in love but tbh the spy x family living situation really is my aroace dream. deep mutual respect and care for one another. sharing domestic tasks. eating meals and spending quality time together. separate bedrooms. zero expectation of physical intimacy. coparenting a four year old. i can’t emphasize enough how much these are all absolute wins to me
I'm coming at this from a perspective of 1) anime watcher primarily (haven't read the manga) and 2) myself ace, so I'm not without my biases, but I think SxF carries some pretty strong ace and aro advocacy vibes in its core, round about the same place as the anti-war themes.
In the same way the series will play episodes of ha-ha spy themed hijinks and antics and will then turn around and look you dead in the eye and say with no humor whatsoever "war is a hell that degrades bodies and spirits of everyone it touches," they will play many episodes of happy home life and teasing tension between the ML and FL and then hit you with "amatonormativity is a tool of the fascist state, actually."
The entire reason this household comes to exist in the first place is that neither Loid nor Yor can exist freely in Ostanian society without checking all the socially expected boxes of being in a married heterosexual relationship with child. The ways that the authoritative Ostanian state demands this conformity, this biological labor, are markers of its oppressiveness as much as their paranoia and their secret police. Yor in particular was drawing so much hostility and suspicion from her coworkers just for being a single woman in her twenties that they were on the verge of reporting her for subversive behavior until she casually mentioned that she had met someone and was getting married soon.
Marriage and parenthood are, explicitly, the camouflage and cover that allow Yor and Loid to continue living their lives unimpeded, as they could never do openly. Having established that unequivocally, this unconventional household -- parenthood without biology, partnership without sex -- continues to be a successful place of stability and happiness for all three of them, despite lacking the elements that their amatonormative society insists are non-negotiable.
I don't disagree that Yor and Loid romance is probably endgame; but if they ever get there, they still will have lived for howevermany chapters episodes and seasons without it. And they were happy.
The thing about people using delusional as an insult or "delulu" as the trendy new term is that sometimes I really want to sit someone down and tell them that I think they're genuinely delusional and that they can get support and help if they're living with psychosis and that they absolutely aren't alone but even the most neurodivergent-positive person will respond as if I'm calling them the most horrible words in existence.
Delusional is a neutral term. Being delusional is a neutral state. When you contribute to the stigma around delusions and being delusional, you are stealing valuable language from people dealing with psychosis and people who are seeking help and support for the things they're going through. And as a delusional person, it really fucking sucks.
I’m currently trying to convince my roommate to seek some help about exactly this kind of thing and the biggest battle I’m having is over the idea that they’re delusional and how they can’t be because they’re not a bad person and why would I say that and it’s genuinely very frustrating because I’m not criticizing them I’m saying “I see you struggling and I want to help”
Yes, yes, this exactly! Like the stigma around delusions and psychosis in general is so fucking bad that even SUGGESTING someone could be experiencing psychosis is seen as an attack on their character, their morals, and their ability to exist around other people. It's such a painful thing to deal with and it means that a lot of people who could be getting help, taking medication, going to therapy, building support systems, finding coping skills, etc are instead just suffering as their mental state gets worse and worse.
So many people are unable or unwilling to get help and live with the stigma and mistreatment and so many of those people end up reaching a breaking point where they hurt themselves or others. So much pain could be avoided if we as a society talked about psychosis openly and honestly and stopped tolerating ableist language that demonizes people just for existing.
being extremely out of the loop especially regarding social media trends and discourse means you often end up learning things only after they've been turned into memes like ten times removed from the original context. for example the first time I ever read the term "girl dinner" it was on a gif of the T-Rex from Jurassic Park eating people so you can imagine the confusion when some time later I stumbled upon posts where people were hating on it and calling it gender essentialist
actually the way society hates both perverts and asexuals is kinda funny. Real "Anyone who thinks about sex more than I do is a porn-addicted degenerate and anyone who thinks about sex less than I do is a loser weirdo or a puritan" energy
idk man sometimes i like it when video game writers are allowed to plan a series of events that happen in a specific order and affect each other in turn to become an overarching narrative, and i don’t mind trusting those writers to take me through those events in the order that is emotionally effective. i don’t really care if a game forces me to go through the forest area first before i can attempt the icy area because maybe there’s things that happen in the forest area that inform later scenes in the icy area. maybe we don't need more superficial player choice open world concepts if it comes at the cost of the ability to write a story with actual significant plot events and character development in each section
the Murderbot Diaries opens from the point-of-view of a character who, from essentially the moment it gained (clawed its way to) free will, has made decisions based purely on two very specific motives:
and this protagonist, who deescalates violence at every opportunity, who takes a thousand personal injustices in stride and only strives to do better, whose first-and-worst-and-most-brilliant act of self-reclamation—literally reclaiming its mind—was fuelled not by its need for freedom but by a desperation to never be forced to hurt anyone against its will ever again.
this person, when choosing a name for itself, a name it has full reason to believe no-one else will ever learn, a name it uses only in its thoughts, a name that serves solely as a personal reminder that it is a person—chooses MURDERBOT? i am thrashing writhing screaming into the palms of my bloodstained hands BABE
if you are a child or teen on this platform you may get valuable information from heeding these words:
avoid the big fish in this pond. do not seek to become one. avoid the fandom aunts, the "big name fans", the One Discord Server.
consider that how someone treats the people they despise and whether you're brave enough to disagree with them, should they turn that conduct on you. and if it requires a significant amount of bravery to think about telling them they've been a bastard, you may want to reconsider being in that relationship.
there will be people on here who will suicide bait you for being happy. they are very sad people and it is not your job nor your responsibility to engage with them. it's up to them to decide to do differently.
try to decouple your sense of self-worth from metrics. the number can never go up enough. i have a project that's >90% positive feedback and over 200,000 downloads and that does nothing for me on my day to day. it's nice if other people like the thing, but it's worth examining why you're creating and sharing in the first place and figuring out what you actually want.
do not treat the dsm like a holy text that must never be questioned
do not go in on sexual or gender identity based taxonomics
do not be cruel to people you deem lesser than you
remember that you can practice and improve pretty much any skill, and there's no such thing as unskilled labour
Shout out to all the Black ppl that can no longer participate directly in the fandom they love because of the stresses of racism 👍🏾 you contain multitudes of value and I'm sorry that the color of your skin and the power of your voice makes people not want to acknowledge that.
Yes, nonblack people can reblog. I'd appreciate it, in fact, if y'all took the time to vocally support your Black friends/fans in fandom.
Alright, I'm gonna put y'all on the spot
Not the results I was expecting lol, let's try to narrow it down a bit more
whoever is saying more than 50 you deserve so many gold medals but also how the fuck are you doing that are you okay
We're old. 200 feels like a rookie number when I've been writing over 20 fucking years.
I want more people to play Pokémon Masters EX so here's my pitches:
Mostly used title art and the posters you can get for the Lodge/loading screens for these because they show off more outfits at a time and some of the Pokémon as well. Oh btw
¹ Current available characters for the Trainer Lodge are: Blue, Leaf, Giovanni, Lance, Silver, Morty, Jasmine, May, Steven, Wally, Brendan, Cynthia, Dawn, Adaman, Irida, Volkner, Volo, Rosa, N, Elesa, Skyla, Cheren, Iris, Professor Sycamore, Serena, Calem, Shauna, Diantha, Lillie, Acerola, Gladion, Lana, Lusamine, Marnie, Raihan, Gloria, Kabu, Leon, Piers, Rika, Iono, Arven, Lacey, Larry, Carmine, and Lear (a character original to Masters). More are added frequently.
(I saw a debate about whether or not it was okay for people to share fic links around without asking the authors first, since some authors may not be comfortable with the links to their fics being shared around on twitter or tumblr. so I thought this post could be a blanket permission for authors who were okay with the links to their fics being shared around!)
The one singular big critique I have of whitepine is that it used the "got a spinal injury and is now a wheelchair user" trope on a character. Which I hate.
"but icy, you talk about disability all the time, why are you so against this" because it's lazy writing and it spreads the idea that every single wheelchair user ever is non-ambulatory and has complete lower body spinal paralysis which has no other consequences besides them being unable to walk. fucking bullshit, give them a bone infection. and this cycle of people being uninformed about the nuance of wheelchair users leads to a whole lot of harassment.
I love the series and I am cheering for miss ivorycello in her future works and her self expression! but i'm not going to sugarcoat that i was very disappointed to see this trope used. it would have been perfectly fine if the line "i can't really feel my legs right now" had been excluded.
life is so beautiful. adblock sponsorblock and it doesn't end there. incest shipper in my fandom tags? blocked. rancid take about my blorbos? blocked. ex friend whose blog i can't look at without spiraling? blocked! you, too, can learn this technique. take my hand. block anything that doesn't bring you joy.
