Yuri Volkov x Reader | Vladimir Makarov & Reader (in the next chapter(s?))
Heavy angst | From No Russian to after the Dust to Dust campaign | Major character death (canon) | Surprising survival | Injuries | Shooting | Airport Massacre & other canon events | I'm sorry in advance, I cried too
In his whole life, there were only three men whose loyalty Vladimir never questioned: Imran Zakhaev's loyalty to the cause; his own loyalty to Zakhaev, and Yuri's loyalty to himself.
Imran Zakhaev died believing in a future he would never see. He died, leaving his cause to Vladimir at the end, and his loyalty to it became even stronger than before.
He could've said he would die for it— but truth be told, he would live for it. He decided he would fight with every breath in his lungs, with every ounce of strength left in him. He would cling to the faintest thread of life if it meant he could survive another day, draw another breath and keep fighting.
And Yuri... Yuri betrayed his trust. That was one of the most painful realizations Vladimir had ever been forced to face. He rarely granted his trust to anyone, it was a luxury in the life he lived— yet Yuri somehow managed to slip past almost every barrier Vladimir had built around himself over the years. They had been through so much, witnessed so many horrors, made so many decisions and Vladimir slowly —painfully, devastatingly slowly—, started to trust him in a way he had never allowed himself to trust anyone else in his life.
