umps are essentially wearing full catcher's gear (heavy) underneath their outfits (polos/full length pants they arent allowed to hike up like a player) which are traditionally either black or navy blue and they're behind the plate or out on the field for the whole game instead of moving around/etc. they're especially vulnerable and often overlooked, so i hope he's okay and that this will be an early wake up call for the league for better practices regarding this part of their personnel
