you had been friends with yang jungwon for over three years now, so naturally, you came over to his apartment room quite a few times.

but you could swear on your life that it had never been so empty and desolate like this. but nobody knows what’s really going on in someone’s life, right?

you hesitantly sit down on his floor bed— which guarantees a pretty impressive amount of comfort considering it looks like an old mattress— deciding to wait and surprise jungwon once he comes out of his room. the surprise being, you managed to shimmy into his very carelessly open apartment.

you quickly shoot him a text.

but no reply yet. well, that's unlikely of jungwon, he's basically online all day.

“so this is it? that’s what you’re saying?” heeseung’s voice slices through the kitchen air—low, rough, trembling with something heavier than anger.

the warm overhead lights cast soft shadows across the wooden dining table between you, but none of that warmth touches either of you.

you stand at the opposite end, fingers curled tight around the table’s edge. the polished surface is cool under your palms. your chest rises in uneven breaths you try to hide.

“i’m saying what i’ve been saying for months,” you reply, voice steady but thin at the edges. “you just don’t listen. or you pretend not to.”

heeseung’s jaw tenses, his throat working around words that don’t come easily. he rakes a hand through his hair but not in irritation, but in the way someone does when they’re scared of saying the wrong thing.

“are you really trying to paint me as someone who doesn’t care?” he asks, the hurt buried in his voice too raw to ignore. “after everything?”

your fingers press harder into the table until the pressure stings. “caring isn’t the problem,” you say quietly. “it’s that you leave me alone with problems you don’t want to deal with. you shut down. you walk away.”

but for some reason, lee heeseung thinks all of the above can happen. he really, truly believes the bunny plushie that you sleep with is stealing you away from him.

he lies on his side, one arm tucked under his pillow, watching you breathe in the soft glow of the fairy lights. your hair is spread across the pillow like a little halo, lips parted the tiniest bit, your chest rising and falling in the slow rhythm of deep sleep.

you’re beautiful like this—soft and safe and completely unaware. but his eyes keep drifting to the round white bunny pressed against your chest.

heeseung swears the plushie is mocking him.

it’s the way its stitched-on smile stares at him, the way you have your arms wrapped so tightly around its body, like you never want to let go.

“unbelievable,” he whispers to himself, glaring at it. “you’re just .. cotton. and somehow you get all the cuddles.”

he pouts, shifting closer until he can poke the plushie’s round head with his finger.

“you don’t deserve her,” he grumbles, voice soft enough not to wake you. “you don’t even do anything. i could make her ten times warmer and happier, you know.”

heeseung pauses, staring at your face to make sure you’re still asleep. when he sees your lashes still resting on your cheeks, he grows braver, sliding his hand carefully under the blanket.

he tries to tug miffy away. just a little. just to see what happens.

you giggle, ducking just as heeseung leans in, and his lips land on your cheek instead.

“hey,” he blinks, offended but soft, “that was supposed to be a kiss.” you tilt your head, mischievous eyes glinting. “you missed.”

he lets out the most dramatic sigh, flopping onto the couch beside you like the world’s betrayed prince. “i’ve been nothing but good to you,” he mumbles, burying his face in your shoulder. “and this is how you treat me?”

“you’ll survive,” you hum, fingers weaving into his hair, gently playing with the strands. heeseung melts almost immediately, his pout relaxing as he nuzzles closer.

“no, i won’t,” he whispers, voice muffled. “you broke my heart. give me a kiss or i’ll cry.”

you glance down to see his eyes closed, lashes brushing his skin, lips jutted out in the most ridiculous pout.

you laugh, warm and fond, and press a quick kiss to his nose. “that’s all you get.”

heeseung peeks one eye open, grinning. “you’re lucky you’re cute.”

you smile, leaning your head against his. “no. you’re lucky.”

and for a moment, everything is soft — the sun through the curtains, the slow beat of his heart under your palm, and the quiet love between you.

LEE HEESEUNG “the least you could do was inform me, what if something happened to you?,” the air inside the apartment is heavy and tense right now. with your boyfriend just a little away from you, his hands folded and eyebrows jotting together to dart his anger on you. after all, the people in the party you attended are all on heeseung's black list. 

“gosh you're being so reckless right no—,” and before he can go about for another hour, you grab the collars of his shirt and pull him down to a sudden yet a stirring kiss. heeseung melts into it, hands cupping the sides of your face, lips moving softly against yours. he forgets about the argument, as soon as he smiles into the kiss and pulls you in. 

“can you like, shut up now?,” you whisper as you pull back from the kiss, hands still grabbing his collar.

“only if you kiss me once more,” he replies, a smirk tugging on the corner of his lips, hands pulling your waist in.
