gris knows when he’s near his limits. with his back hunched over and feet dragging, he feels the exhaustion from his mission pulling the life out of him.
he’s certain he’ll surrender to sleep before he makes it to the shower, but that was before he officially stepped inside his room.
as soon as he opened his door, he was met with a barrage of kisses from none other than you, his hands searching your shoulders as soon as he could process it.
“woah—!” he yelped, embarrassingly loud before he quieted down into a softer, “hey.”
your kisses replaced your own spoken “hello” back, until you settled down and the words you’d been waiting to speak all day came out.
“i missed you so much!” your hands found his waist in a hug, his own body fully relaxing under your touch.
he at last shut the door, hugging you back as he fully stepped in, taking in your warmth and familiar scent that acted as a remedy to his exhaustion. when he let his head drop to yours, a sigh bigger than expected escaped him, followed by a small smile.
oh, he needed this.
“i missed you too.”
and much, much more than you probably thought.
he could fall asleep just like that if he wanted, but he figured his weight on yours wouldn’t prove comfortable on your end. so instead he returned the favor by planting two or three kisses on your lips, albeit lazily, still full of love. you on the other hand resisted the urge to tackle him again, trying not to wear him out more than he already was.
when you went to take off his hat and untie his boots, easing his load, he realized the sudden surge of life that came back into his veins. coming full circle back to the face he was met with every morning was a kind of satisfaction gris never knew of.
until you, of course.
such a lucky man he was.
