以下、感想を書き連ねます↓

I remembered there was something I wanted to ask everyone: if anyone knows or can make it out by ear, could you tell me what the altered lyrics in Carousel (the ending theme for the second playthrough) are during the S.F. Route?

It seems like part of the lyrics changes only in the S.F. Route. I noticed this because Masafumi Takada mentioned in an interview that some endings use different lyrics, and he also said that idea came from Uchikoshi, which made me suspect he was referring to the S.F. Route. I haven’t checked whether it changes in every S.F. ending, but I have confirmed that it’s different at least in Ending:055.

The regular lyrics actually aren’t published online anywhere, but the booklet included with the recently released physical OST does contain them. The chorus is written as:

(Round'n'round) (Round'n'round) Round And Round like a carousel I chase and then depart (Spin'n'round) (Spin'n'round) Spin'n' round like a carousel I grasp and then let go

I can tell that only “I chase and then depart” and “I grasp and then let go” are replaced with different lines, but I can’t clearly make out what they’re saying. If anyone knows, I’d really appreciate it!

I’ve finally managed to finish compiling my full event report for The Hundred Line’s 1st Anniversary event held on April 26! I thought it might go a bit faster this time since I was planning to use fewer illustrations, but it still ended up taking much longer than I expected. 😅

I’d been meaning to do this for a while, so I took this opportunity to compile a list of links to my past articles covering The Hundred Line-related reports below. I hope you enjoy reading them!

You can see the photo of the cake Kimura received here:

MC: Kimura-san, how are you feeling right now?

Kimura: Honestly, the bitterness of the senburi tea completely disappeared. Getting celebrated like this at an event for a work I love so much is overwhelming. My heart is full. Thank you so, so much.

Kodaka: No matter how famous you get from here on out, don’t remove The Hundred Line from your profile, okay?

Kimura: I’ll keep it at the very top forever!

Ogata: Come on, let Sakurai-kun feed you some cake. It’s the classic wedding thing.

MC: Wow, we’ve entered the Cult of Kimura route.

Sakurai: Where do you want it?

Kimura: Umm... then, my face♡

Sakurai: Alright then... I’ll give you this little heart. (Scoops it up with a fork) Come eat it.

Kimura: Uh, okay... (hesitant)

Ogata: Say “aaah,” come on, “aaah.”

Kimura: Aaaah.

Audience: (cheers and squeals erupt)

MC: So, how was it?

Kimura: Delicious!

Ogata: Congratulations on your marriage! (applauds)

Sakurai: We’re gonna be so happy together.

Audience: (applause)

Live Voice Acting

Just like in the daytime session, the cast performed a live voice acting segment. The first performance was a scene from Day 58 of the Multiple Eitos Route, performed by Kimura and Sakurai.

One thing that really stood out to me as something unique to live voice acting was when Eito talked about how, once he completely took over Takumi’s body, he would of course wipe out humanity, including the Special Defense Unit, and wondered if Nozomi should be the first one he killed. Right at that moment, Kimura immediately performed Takumi sharply gasping for breath. In the actual game, Takumi’s dialogue had not appeared yet at that point, so getting to hear his reaction before his line was shown made the scene feel especially powerful.

The next performance was a story from the night of Day 54 on the route leading into Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario, performed by Kimura, Ogata, and Ito. The story begins with Kako and Ima, calling themselves the “great detective” and “great assistant,” visiting Takumi’s room. Ima explains that Gaku and Takemaru have been locking themselves in their rooms all day because Eito asked them, “Do the people you care about really exist?

At one point, Ima says, “Well, I can understand how the senpais feel. Just imagining a world where Kako wasn’t around makes me want to tug on her cheeks without even thinking about it.” While saying this, Ogata ad libbed a “poke poke” gesture toward Ito, poking her cheek with his finger.

Afterward, Kako gets angry because Ima explained everything, and when Ima notices, saying, “Huh? Kako’s cheeks are all puffed up. I wonder what’s wrong?” Ogata continued the bit by adding, “Hey, Kako. Look, poke poke poke,” while poking her even more. Ito responded by puffing out her cheeks and going “Nnnnngh~!” while acting like she was resisting Ima’s finger.

They even added a new line for Takumi at the very end: “That guy Ima... was even louder than usual today...” And with that, the drama came to a close.

---

MC: Since this was the evening session, the ad libs were really something. (laughs) Sakurai-san, how did it feel performing it?

Sakurai: It really feels completely different when you’re acting off each other directly. I feel like my bond with Kimura-kun deepened a lot over the course of today, too.

Kimura: Yeah, it definitely did.

Ogata: Cross media projects are really fun, because they give us opportunities to do live acting like this. I tend to throw things at the other person and leave it in their hands, but it makes me really happy when someone picks it up and runs with it.

MC: Ito-san, you were getting poked a lot. (laughs)

Ito: I got poked so much!

Kodaka: During game recording sessions, everyone records separately, so watching this really reminds me that acting off each other directly creates the best performances. It made me want to work even harder to make an anime adaptation happen someday.

MC: Well, there’s no harm in saying what you want! We’ll call it a goal for now.

Announcements & Latest News

The final segment introduced information about post event online sales for the merchandise sold at the venue, along with various new goods. Then, for the first time, they revealed plans for a stage play adaptation, something that had not been announced during the daytime session.

MC: What kind of stage production will this be?

Kodaka: We’re planning a very THL style experiment where 10 out of the 13 performances will have different endings...

Ogata: Isn’t that basically telling the actors to die?

Kodaka: Honestly, this is an unprecedented challenge, and I genuinely don’t know if it’ll succeed. It’s not like only ten minutes of the script changes, either. The scripts are almost completely different. There’s a theory that maybe I shouldn’t meet the actors in person. (laughs) They’d probably say, “That’s the guy! He’s the reason we’re suffering!” (laughs)

Then, just like in the daytime session, they also announced the manga adaptation.

MC: It really feels like the series is building strong momentum across different media now, including the manga adaptation and everything else, doesn’t it?

Kodaka: Definitely. We’re aiming for a positive cycle, so I hope we can keep this momentum going.

---

Closing Remarks

Ito: Thank you all so much for today. We got so much THL news today, but personally, I really want an anime adaptation! This is only my second day doing events like this...

Ogata: It’s your first day! A full day hasn’t even passed yet!

Ito: Ah, right! (laughs) It’s my very first day in life doing events, and this is my second time!

Kimura: Are you time leaping?

Ito: I’m just so grateful to be involved with such an incredible work.

-

Ogata: There were quite a lot of men at the daytime session, but there are so many more women here this time. I was really surprised by that.

Kodaka: It’s popular with people of all ages and genders.

Ogata: Nothing’s been decided at all yet, and maybe I’m just saying it out loud for now, but “kotodama*” is important, so we have to fire the bullet first. *One of the terms from Danganronpa, translated in the English version as “Truth Bullets.” In Japanese, it is originally a play on the word “言霊(kotodama),” meaning “words have power,” replacing the “dama” character with the kanji for “bullet.” Ogata: Everyone! Do you want an anime adaptation?!

Audience: (huge applause)

Ogata: Thank you very much. With everyone’s support, I’m going to fire this off today as a “kotodama,” and I hope that if we keep moving forward with hope in our hearts, someday the opportunity for an anime adaptation will come.

-

Sakurai: With the manga adaptation and now the stage play adaptation, things are progressing really smoothly. And once things get to this point, naturally you start wanting even more, right? You want to see an anime adaptation too. It made me really happy hearing the screams and cheers every time new information was revealed, because it reminded me how much passion the fans have for this series.

Kodaka: Though it got pretty quiet whenever we talked about the Commanders.

Sakurai: I was genuinely happy that we could share new THL developments today, and I’m really glad I could be here for it.

-

Kimura: Today I could truly feel everyone’s love for THL with my whole body, and it reminded me once again from the bottom of my heart what a wonderful work THL is. The senburi tea was bitter, but I was also so happy to be celebrated for winning the Best New Voice Actor award. Thank you all so much for today.

-

MC: And finally, Kodaka-san, please.

Kodaka: Right. Could I see everyone’s faces one more time?

The audience area lights up.

Kodaka: Yep, just as I thought, you all have the faces of people destined for success! And you know why? Because you play THL. Playing THL raises your luck. Your financial luck goes up too, of course. So please spread the word to your friends as well, and let’s all become happy together.

Ogata: It's starting to feel like he's going to try to sell us some kind of vases or something. (laughs) *In Japan, “selling vases” has become almost synonymous with psychic scam businesses and “good luck” fraud schemes.

Kodaka: I want this series to continue through its 2nd anniversary, 5th anniversary, 10th anniversary, even its 100th anniversary. Of course I want an anime adaptation, but I also want to keep announcing new DLC routes and turn it into a game that continues forever. I’d be very happy if you continue supporting us.

The venue erupted in huge applause, and it seemed like all the guests were about to leave the stage — but then Kimura alone remained behind.

Kimura: Before we finish, we have one final surprise we’d like to share with everyone. Since this is the end of the event, we’d like to perform a dramatic reading of the final scene from Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario. It’s a little sad, but it’s an ending that really symbolizes The Hundred Line, and one I personally love very much. I hope you’ll listen to it, and I’ll do my best.

Then, on the dimly lit stage, a mysterious figure appeared to hand Kimura the script. Immediately afterward, the screen revealed the name of Tomoyo Kurosawa, the voice actress for Nozomi Kirifuji and Karua Kashimiya, creating a surprise reveal that triggered one of the loudest cheers of shock and excitement from the audience all night.

Their reading was absolutely incredible, and what impressed me most was Kurosawa’s facial acting. Even during moments when she had no dialogue, she nodded along to Takumi’s words, made expressions like she was holding back tears, and completely embodied Nozomi.

You could hear people quietly sobbing throughout the venue, and many audience members were crying.

After the final movie from Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario played, the lyric video for Sedam’s ending theme appeared on the screen.

Once it finished playing, the song that echoed throughout the venue was Chopin’s “Étude Op.10 No.3,” the same piece that plays in the game during the time limit sequence between the escape pod appearing in the schoolyard and everyone boarding it.

---

And with that, this concludes my report on the evening session. Thank you very much for reading all the way to the end!

MC: Next is a question for Ito-san, although... this question seems a little strange. (laughs)

The question displayed on the screen was written entirely in Ima’s speech pattern.

MC: Ogata-san, you didn’t submit this yourself, did you?

Ogata: It wasn’t me, but at this point I’m clearly the one who has to read it.

Q. A question for Ito Rikako-san, who plays Tsukumo Kako-chan. When portraying that adorable little angel, was there anything you particularly kept in mind? Imouto-chan shows many different sides of herself throughout the story, such as having her body possessed by a certain lifeform and growing through the 100 days of battle, so I’d love to know how you differentiated those performances!

Ito: At first, Kako-chan simply followed Ima-kun’s lead, but as she grows, she gradually becomes able to think and make decisions for herself. I really wanted to portray the growth of a girl who initially couldn’t think independently in a compelling way, so that was something I paid close attention to. Also, at first it seems like she’s only following Ima-kun around, but if you look at Kako-chan’s profile, under ‘dislikes’ it says ‘Anything that hurt Ima,’ so she actually really cares about him too. So during the scenes where Ima is killed and Kako starts to lose control emotionally, I approached the performance by amplifying her feelings toward Ima.

MC: What would you do if Ima were really your older brother?

Ito: Umm... well...

Ogata: I won’t get mad, so go ahead and say it. (looking toward Ito)

Ito: Umm... (laughs) Actually, Ogata-san kind of has some similarities to Ima...

Ogata: I don’t go around stabbing people with knives!

Ito: (laughs) No, not like that. I just mean she’s always looking out for me and protecting me in different ways. So I think there might be a little overlap there.

Sumino and Aotsuki | Persuasion Mission

Next came the Persuasion Mission segment. During the daytime performance, the Tsukumo siblings had been the targets, but for the evening show, the challenge was convincing Takumi and Eito.

MC: Just like in the daytime session, this will be a competition between the Creator Team and the Cast Team. During the daytime show, Uchikoshi-san was here, but tonight the Creator Team consists solely of Kodaka-san.

Kodaka: I’m all alone.

MC: Also, if the Cast Team loses, Kimura-san will receive a punishment game on behalf of the group, themed around the number 100.

Kimura: Why do I have to suffer the punishment if we fail to persuade my own character, Takumi...? (he gives a resentful look)

Kodaka: Hurry up and get going.

First came Takumi’s Persuasion Mission, with Kimura performing Takumi’s lines.

Takumi:Everyone at Too Kyo Games, thanks for making me the protagonist. But let me say just one thing. Don’t you think I’ve been put through way too much suffering for a protagonist?! I got cut clean in half, and there was even that time Aotsuki did something weirdly erotic to me...! I want to be happy too! Give me more routes where I can at least achieve some small bit of happiness! Otherwise, I’m quitting as the protagonist of The Hundred Line!

MC: So Takumi’s complaint is: "Give me more routes where I can achieve some modest happiness!" All right then, please persuade him not to quit being the protagonist.

Kimura: I’m really gonna quit!

Kodaka: But isn’t suffering part of what makes a protagonist?

MC: (laughs) Takumi really does have that unfortunate protagonist energy, doesn’t he?

Ogata: Destroying and crushing the protagonist is kind of the essence of a Kodaka work.

MC: The Cast Team’s answer looks like it’s going to be pretty long...

Ito: Aotsuki-san is writing it for us right now!

Sakurai: The pen is moving fast! (smiling)

MC: That sounds rather ominous. All right then, it seems both teams are ready. Let’s start with the Creator Team.

Kodaka: "Takumi, you’re everyone’s mom, so just endure it."

Kimura: Whaaaat?!

MC: Next, the Cast Team!

Sakurai: “‘Got it. You really are pathetic, huh? So you want to suffer even more? Fine then. I’ll prepare a Sumino ‘Destruction’ Route for you.’”

Audience: (laughter)

MC: All right everyone, let’s vote. Applause if you preferred the Creator Team’s answer!

Audience: (moderate applause)

MC: And applause if you preferred the Cast Team’s answer!

Audience: (much louder applause)

MC: Now then, what’s the result of the persuasion?!

On the screen, Takumi’s Persuasion Rate rose steadily until it reached 100%, triggering the success animation.

Takumi: All right... if you insist that much, I guess I won’t quit being the protagonist just yet... but please, at least let me have something good happen to me once in a while. Even just a little!

MC: And with that, the persuasion succeeds! Congratulations! But Kodaka-san… are you actually going to make that ‘Destruction’ route?”

Kodaka: Honestly, I’m starting to get a lot of ideas. I think suffering is part of a protagonist’s role. Maybe he gradually gets destroyed while casually chatting away. Or maybe Sumino starts turning transparent whenever he says something boring. The ideas just keep coming. Maybe we should replace the protagonist entirely.

---

MC: Next is Aotsuki’s persuasion segment. Sakurai-san, please.

Eito:Ugh... humanity really is disgusting... so hideous... so revolting... so noisy... so filthy... I can barely stand waiting to exterminate all of you. And yet... why isn’t there a route where I wipe out all humanity?! Too Kyo Games has the courage to strip me naked, but not the courage to make a route where I slaughter the entire human race?! Haaah... if I can’t exterminate humanity, then there’s no reason for me to appear in The Hundred Line. If you don’t want me to quit, then hurry up and make a route where I kill every last human!

MC: So Aotsuki’s complaint is: "Make a route where I exterminate all these disgusting humans!"

Kimura: We ought to fire Aotsuki. Seriously, fire him! We can’t let this slide, no matter how popular he is or how much money he brings in...

MC: Looks like Kimura-san has already given up on persuading him. (laughs)

Kimura: Aotsuki, pack your things.

MC: Oh, Kodaka-san’s writing incredibly fast. All right then, let’s start with the Cast Team’s answer.

Kimura:Aotsuki… this ends here…!" Haaah!! (Kimura read the line in Takumi’s voice, then dramatically swung his clenched fist downward as though reenacting a Finishing Blow and absorbing Hemoanima.)

MC: An outright murder declaration! (laughs) “Now then, Creator Team, your answer please!

Kodaka:Just spare my lifeeeee~.(On the sketchbook he was holding, he had drawn a sweating portrait of Gaku.)

MC: Amazing, it even comes with a drawing of Maruko! (laughs)

Ogata: Hold on, I’ve known Kodaka-san for quite a long time, but you can draw?! I had no idea. I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen you drawing.

Kodaka: Actually, yeah.

(Recently, Kodaka had apparently been drawing many Special Defense Unit characters for autograph boards, so he likely remembered them well. He sketched Gaku immediately without using any reference materials.)

This is a post by one of the fans, but for reference, here’s a post from someone who received a signed autograph card featuring a drawing of Gaku that he drew previously:

Ogata: Since we have it, we should give it to someone in the audience.

Kodaka: True. Let’s give this to someone.

Even though they said they would, in the end, no one actually received it. 😅 One of Gaku’s fans said they had planned to raise their hand, thinking they’d be asked who wanted one after the event was over.

MC: Before that, let’s have the audience vote. Applause if you preferred the Cast Team!

Audience: (small applause)

MC: And applause if you preferred the Creator Team!

Audience: (large applause)

Kimura: Oh no, mine was completely backfiring.

Kodaka: You’ve entered the Destruction Route.

MC: Now then, let’s see the result of the persuasion! Sakurai-san, if you would.

On the screen, Eito’s Persuasion Rate briefly shot up to 100%, only to immediately plummet back down to 0%.

Eito:Did you really think I’d be persuaded by something Takumi-kun said? Don’t flatter yourself into thinking you convinced me. Ahh, Takumi-kun... you really messed up when it mattered most.

MC: And with that, the persuasion of Aotsuki has failed! Which means Kimura-san must now face the punishment game! Kimura-san will now drink 100 milliliters of extremely bitter senburi* tea!

*Japanese green gentian. It is considered one of Japan's major herbal remedies and has long been used as a bitter-tasting stomach medicine.

A cup of senburi tea was brought out from backstage and handed to Kimura.

Kimura: This kind of feels like what drinking a Desperation Potion must be like...

Kodaka: Watching people suffer feels great.

Kimura:Aotsuki... this ends here...!” (in Takumi’s voice)

Kimura then steeled himself and chugged the tea all at once. During the attempt, the audience cheered him on with chants of “Takumi! Takumi!” and rhythmic clapping. After finishing, Kimura twisted his face dramatically and exclaimed, “That’s really bitter!” before immediately grabbing a bottle of water from the table.

Kodaka: Is it really that bad?

Kimura: It’s insanely bitter! Seriously, the taste is still completely lingering in my mouth. (He took another sip of water right away.)

Kodaka: If we keep making him do things like this, Ken Production* is going to get mad at us. (laughs) *Kimura’s talent agency

Kimura: No, honestly, I think my manager is laughing his ass off right now.

MC: And now, to honor Kimura-san for his hard work, we’ve prepared something special.

Kimura: Huh?

A cake was brought out from backstage, and the text displayed on the screen changed.

MC: Kimura-san! Congratulations on winning the Best New Actor award at the 20th Voice Actor Awards!

Kimura: What?!

In reality, the entire punishment game had been set up as part of this surprise celebration.

Favorite Commanders Ranking TOP 5

1st Place: Eva

2nd Place: V'ehxness

3rd Place: Turamtammi

4th Place: Addamaque

5th Place: Dahl'xia

The rankings were revealed starting from 5th place, but the audience reaction was surprisingly subdued, with most people simply staring at the screen in silence.

Ogata: Wow, everyone got really quiet.

Sakurai: Maybe they were mentally preparing themselves?

MC: The reactions were a little restrained. Kodaka-san, what do you think of the results?

Kodaka: Well, they’re pretty much what I expected. Eva joins the party starting from the second loop, and both Eva and V'ehxness have dedicated routes, so it makes sense. As for Turamtammi, I think people just find the twin-tail-like silhouette cute. I also saw a lot of fans imagining that beneath the mask is a beautiful girl like Kurara.

Kimura: So we’ll eventually get to see the Commanders’ real faces?

Kodaka: Probably once the setting materials book comes out. Oh, and actually, this is the first time I’m publicly mentioning this, but we’ve already decided that an art/settings book will be released. Personally, I imagine Addamaque as looking something like Shinazugawa*. *a character from Demon Slayer

MC: Are you allowed to say that?

Kodaka: It’s fine. It’s Aniplex. We’re family.

Sakurai: I think I need to take a deep breath* for that one. *Sakurai voices a major character in Demon Slayer, whose worldbuilding heavily revolves around different “Breathing” techniques, making this a deliberate joke.

The audience laughed.

Most Common First Endings Reached by Players – TOP 5

1st Place: Ending 001 - Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario: Farewell, Last Defense Academy 2nd Place: Ending 042 - Cult of Takumi Route: Living Idol 3rd Place: Ending 047 - Coming-of-Age Route: Bittersweet Youth 4th Place: Ending 041 - Cult of Takumi Route: Overlord 5th Place: Ending 062 - Romance Route: Dream Come True 1

This ranking caused huge excitement in the venue.

As each ending was announced from 5th place upward, the final CG from that ending was displayed on the screen. However, for Living Idol, the image was heavily censored with mosaic blur and covered by yellow “Self-Censorship” tape, accompanied by an image of NIGOU crossing his arms in front of her chest.

Ogata: How badly did you all want to reach the horny routes?! (toward the audience)

The venue erupted in laughter.

Kimura: What an erotic game.

Ogata: You’re all laughing, but these are the results of your own choices, you know?

MC: But surprisingly, it seems a lot of people reached Ending 001 first. Kodaka-san, what do you think about that?

Kodaka: Well, I thought it would make for a better experience if players understood the truth relatively early and then explored the different routes afterward. So while I tried not to make it too obvious, I was definitely guiding players a bit toward the route where they’d uncover the truth. So in that sense, things went pretty much according to plan.

And as for the Cult of Takumi routes, it seems a lot of players hesitated at the point where they had to choose who to ask to perform a suicidal attack. A lot of people apparently thought, ‘I don’t really want to make one of the girls do this…,’ so they ended up choosing the other option and getting routed there instead.

Ogata: But deep down, everyone wanted to go in that direction, right? "Now’s your chance to confess.(in Ima’s voice) Oh! Someone just nodded!

MC: Ito-san, are you actually playing through this route right now?

Ito: Yes, I’m actually playing it right now. I just kept thinking... Sumino-senpai is really popular with the girls...

Ogata: “Sumino-senpai, make up your mind already. Otherwise, I'll kill you.” (in Ima’s voice)

Kimura: Huh?! But hey, we even held the Kako Festival together!

My memory of this part of the conversation is pretty fuzzy. I do remember that Ogata was somehow blaming Kimura, though.

Fan Questions for the Creators and Cast

MC: Next, we have a segment where the cast and creators will answer questions submitted by fans. First up is a question for Kodaka-san.

Q. What’s a small detail you put a lot of effort into that players may not have noticed?

Kodaka: Honestly... there may not be many left at this point. You all notice such tiny details already. But if I had to pick one, it’d probably be the dialogue that appears when examining objects. Ever since Danganronpa, I’ve always tried to pack as many little lines into those interactions as possible. Some of the dialogue even changes randomly. As an example, Naegi said, “‘Mokuyoubi’* sounds cute if you say it as ‘mokyuyoubi.’

*The Japanese word for “Thursday.”

Ogata immediately repeated it in Makoto Naegi’s voice: “Mo-mokyuyoubi...”

Kodaka: We also packed in as many lines as possible for things like examining the aquarium in the cafeteria. There’s an enormous amount of it, but maybe the person who played for 800 hours has already seen all of it.

---

MC: Next is a question for Kimura-san.

Q. In your opinion, what was the moment when Sumino experienced the greatest ‘extreme and despair’?

Kimura: Hmm... probably near the end of the first 100 days, when Shion gets absorbed by Aotsuki. The scene where the sickle pierces the container. Even when I first read the script, it shocked me. It came completely out of nowhere, and Aotsuki was terrifyingly intense there. I think Sumino was genuinely horrified.

Kodaka: Actually, Sakurai-san recorded those scenes first, including all the crazy laughter and everything, so by the time everyone else went in to record, they already knew just how far he was taking the performance.

Kimura: And then in the second loop, when Sumino realizes things are starting to diverge from the previous timeline... with the Commanders attacking one after another, I think that’s when he understood the second loop was somehow going to become even worse.

---

MC: Next is a question for Sakurai-san.

Q. Aotsuki changes drastically after Day 95 and especially after the second loop. Were there any particularly difficult aspects to portraying him? Was there any route version of Aotsuki that was especially hard to perform?

Sakurai: Rather than there being a particularly difficult route, what really stayed with me was imagining how, for him, humanity genuinely smells disgusting and looks revolting. Sometimes I’d think, ‘If someone actually experienced the world like that, it would be unbearable,’ and I’d almost start sympathizing with him.

For scenes involving physical pain, like gouging out eyes or burning the nasal membranes, I tried to perform them in a very raw and visceral way.

Kodaka: The long monologue near the end of the first 100 days was incredible too. He nailed the whole thing perfectly in a single take. I remember thinking, ‘Wow, he’s amazing. Also kind of monstrous.’ And I mean that as a compliment.

Sakurai: Roles like this are really satisfying to perform. If people hate the character, then I’ve succeeded. And if people love him, then I’ve also succeeded.

---

MC: Next is a question for Ogata-san.

Q. Where do you most strongly feel the distinctive qualities of Kodaka-san’s works?

Ogata: First of all, this person always starts from the desire to create something outrageous and unlike anything anyone else is doing. He portrays despair on a level you almost never see in other works, yet within that despair, he still tries to show a glimmer of hope. That approach has been consistent across both his games and anime. But honestly, the way he depicts despair is becoming harder and harder to get away with in the Reiwa era because of compliance standards, and sometimes it makes me nervous watching it. (laughs) Even something like Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls...

Kodaka: That one was really pushing the limit. I think adapting it into anime would be difficult.

Ogata: That’s exactly the kind of thing he likes to challenge. He never goes, ‘Maybe let’s tone this down a little.’ He just throws erotic stuff in there without hesitation. There were countless moments where I thought, ‘You’re seriously making this female voice actress say this line?

Audience: (laughter)

Ogata: Also, like I said earlier, suddenly stabbing a teammate with a knife... (referring to the scene where Ima stabbed Takemaru)

Kodaka: Ima is actually a good guy, though. But like Ogata-san said, I do really like stories that show at least a little bit of hope.

⚠️ While I did refer to some media reports, this article is primarily based on the notes I took during the event and my own memory, so there may be inaccuracies or mistakes in the order of events. Because media coverage was allowed during the evening session, you can also find photos from the event in the following articles:

The evening session largely followed the same structure as the daytime session, beginning with the familiar “Ding Dong Bing Bong” chime and opening with another short live drama performance accompanied by newly drawn event artwork displayed on the screen.

Drama Segment

Just like in the daytime session, the scene began with Takumi nervously waiting backstage while Ima tried to encourage him, before Kako eventually appeared. However, Ogata’s performance as Ima included a huge amount of improvisation this time, with lines like “The cutest girl in the universe, Kakooooowowowo!” and “Kako’s cute aura is purifying me! Ahh, my nose is bleeding from the sheer impact!” She was acting far more excited than Ima ever had in the game.

The first half of the scene was mostly the same as the daytime version, but midway through, the sound of a door suddenly opening echoed through the venue. Takumi realized Aotsuki had arrived, and after the “DECIDE YOUR DESTINY” sequence appeared on screen, the scene branched into completely different content.

The screen displayed a prompt along the lines of: “Which Aotsuki is about to appear?” During the daytime session, the chosen option had been “First playthrough fake nice-guy Aotsuki,” but this time it landed on “Post-second-playthrough true-nature Aotsuki.”

Eito: “Hello, you grotesque monsters. Dressing yourselves up despite being hideous creatures... you people really are revolting.

Takumi: “A-Aotsuki…!

Kako: “Oh, it’s just the usual ‘funny Aotsuki-senpai.’

Eito: “Takumi-kun, why are you nervous? There’s only so much an insect like you can accomplish.

Takumi: “Aotsuki...! If you want a fight, I’ll take you on! Hey, somebody bring me my Infuser!

Ima: “Whoa there, calm down, Sumino-senpai. Aotsuki-senpai being irritating is just part of his default settings.

Takumi: “But...!

Kako: “Honestly, maybe you’re nervous because you’re trying too hard to look cool?

Ima: “Exactly.

Kako: “The Hundred Line isn’t really the kind of game where you need to act all formal anyway, right?

Ima: “Exactly exactly.

Kako: “I mean, there’s dirty humor and erotic illustrations and everything...

Ima: “Exactly exactly exactly!

Takumi: “You’re right... Maybe there’s no point getting overly worked up on The Hundred Line stage.

Ima: “That’s the spirit! Let’s just wing it and go for it!

Eito: “Ugh... rehabilitated Takumi-kun is even more disgusting.

Takumi: “Tch... no, this isn’t the time to deal with Aotsuki! (turning toward the audience) Everyone! When I give the signal, shout ‘Yeah!’ for me!

Ima: “Your voices were pretty weak during the daytime session, okay? Make sure you do it properly this time!

Takumi: “Alright, everyone! Let’s start the class festival!

The entire audience shouted “Yeah!” together, bringing the short drama to an end. Thanks to Ima specifically calling them out beforehand, the crowd response was noticeably louder than during the daytime session.

Introduction

After a brief greeting from the MC, the cast members entered the stage.

MC: How did it feel performing the live reading?

Kimura: Since this is the evening session, it really felt like the audience had warmed up more.

Ogata: "See? You guys can do it when you try.” (in Ima’s voice)

MC: Ito-san, you mentioned this was your first real live event appearance. Are you feeling less nervous now?

Ito: Yes, I’m having a lot of fun.

Ogata:Everyone, today is imouto-chan’s first time, you know? You’d better take responsibility for it.” (in Ima’s voice, threatening tone)

MC: (laughs) Sakurai-san, how about you? Even though this venue is full of filthy humans.

Sakurai paused for a moment, then pinched his nose shut.

The audience burst into laughter.

Sakurai: Just kidding. Of course I’m joking. To me, you all look perfectly normal.

Ogata: By the way, Sakurai’s shirt today has see-through sleeves. Did everyone notice?

Kimura: They really are transparent!

Sakurai: There’s not much point in looking at an old man’s see-through outfit. (laughs)

The MC then introduced the final guest for the evening session: scenario writer Kazutaka Kodaka.

Kodaka: Nice to meet you all. You know, everyone here has really good energy.

MC: Uh...?

Kodaka: That’s because The Hundred Line is a masterpiece. Events for masterpiece games naturally have good energy.

MC: (laughs) That might be true. Uchikoshi-san appeared during the daytime session...

Kodaka: Wasn’t it Bruno Mars?

MC: No, it was Uchikoshi-san. (laughs)

Kodaka: Really? I thought it was Bruno Mars.

MC: How does that even happen?

The MC then announced that, just like the daytime session, the first major segment would be the fan survey results.

---

Fan Survey Results

Top 10 Longest Playtimes Among Fans

1st: 870 hours 2nd: 804 hours 3rd: 800 hours 4th: 709 hours 5th: 595 hours 6th: 520 hours 7th: 500 hours 8th: 498 hours 9th: 485 hours 10th: 475 hours

MC: So unbelievably, first place clocked in at 870 hours! Kodaka-san, by the way, how long does it usually take to see all 100 endings?

Kodaka: For people who really take their time with it, a lot of them go over 200 hours. I wonder if we’ve got anyone here who’s played more than 400 hours?

MC: Actually then, is there anyone in the audience who’s played over 400 hours?

(Only one person raises their hand.)

Kimura: There is one!

Ogata: I’m sorry, I know I keep asking this, but... do you have too much free time? (laughs)

Kodaka: Originally, The Hundred Line wasn’t really made with the idea that everyone had to complete all 100 routes. We wanted it to be something where players could decide for themselves, ‘Okay, I’m satisfied here,’ stop for a while, and then maybe come back later and think, ‘I feel like trying another route now.’ Something people could enjoy over a long period of time. But there are also so many people who immediately want to jump into the next route, and honestly that makes me really happy. Even I’ve only played about four hours.

MC: That’s way too little for the creator! (laughs)

Live Voice Acting

The first live dubbing performance featured Kimura, Ogata, and Ito reenacting the nighttime event from Day 51 of the Comedy Route.

After choosing “Meat” on Day 47, Takumi receives a threatening note demanding that he deliver Hiruko’s panties. Takumi creates a fake pair and places them inside an attaché case in the designated classroom, where he runs into Ima and Kako. The cast also performed the scene in Takumi’s room where he explains the situation.

Next was a live acting performance by Kimura and Sakurai of the Day 4 scene that follows choosing “Let Him Live” during the decision of whether or not to kill Eito. They performed the conversation between Takumi and Eito while Eito is locked inside the cage in the courtyard.

After the live voice acting segment, the MC returned to the stage.

MC: How was the live reading for everyone?

Kimura: Having Aotsuki right next to me really brings out the hatred, you know? (laughs)

MC: (laughs) How about you, Sakurai-san?

Sakurai: It was a lot of fun. I’m glad I got to understand the character even better, and it was also my first time doing scenes together with Kimura-kun. We actually met for the first time today, but now we’re comrades.

As he said this, Sakurai put an arm around Kimura’s shoulders.

MC: Ogata-san, how was it for you?

Ogata: Before I give my thoughts, there’s something I want to say first. Aniplex-san, I’m sorry. I got a little carried away during the earlier segment. (awkward laugh)

MC: Ito-san, how about you?

Ito: It was super fun!

MC: And how was it from the creators’ perspective?

Uchikoshi: Hearing it performed live really fills me with emotion. I’d love to see a fully voiced edition of The Hundred Line someday. Who exactly should I ask about that?

Kodaka: Aniplex.

MC: More pressure on Aniplex-san again. (laughs)

Kodaka: It’s fine, they’re making plenty of money from Demon Slayer anyway.

MC: Kodaka-san, what did you think?

Kodaka: There’s just something really immersive about hearing it live. It made me want to join in too.

MC: What?! As which character?

Kodaka: As Sirei. Though... maybe that’d be impossible. (laughs)

Announcements & Latest News

The final segment of the event focused on announcements and the latest news.

One announcement after another was revealed, including venue merchandise information, a newly announced GiGO collaboration featuring “gaming” themed goods, and collaboration merchandise with Bukubu Okawa that will be released by empty.

Then came promotion for the The Hundred Line booster pack for the card game Build-Divide-Bright, which had launched on the very same day as the event. One promotional point in particular was: “Kazutaka Kodaka is a card too!”

The actual card can be seen here:

Kodaka: It’s not like I wanted to be turned into a card, okay? Though for the record, this photo was taken at Aniplex.

The next announcement was a manga adaptation of THL, scheduled to begin serialization this winter.

Sakurai: Is Kodaka-san going to appear in this one too?

Kodaka: Nope, Kodaka-san doesn’t show up in this one. (laughs)

It was funny because Kodaka accidentally referred to himself as “Kodaka-san” out of flusteredness.

---

Final Greetings

The event then moved into the final greetings.

Kimura: Today really reminded me once again just how deeply loved The Hundred Line is by so many people, and honestly, it really... um... ah... (Kimura struggles to find the words while repeatedly moving his hands in a circular motion in front of his chest.)

Ogata: We can wait.

Sakurai: Totally.

The way Ogata and Sakurai immediately helped Kimura out when he stumbled over his words really made an impression on me. Kimura has a relatively short career as a voice actor, so it was nice to see the veterans Ogata and Sakurai supporting him.

Kimura: No, really, I was just so happy to be part of an event like this today. Thank you so much!

MC: Then let’s hear from Kodaka-san.

Kodaka: Fortunately, THL has won various awards and things like that, so I was relieved to know it definitely wasn’t a terrible game. But seeing this many people gathered here really makes me feel like we created something special.

Uchikoshi: Ah, hearing that actually reassures me. Even when THL kept winning awards, he never really seemed that happy about it, so hearing this now makes me think he actually was happy after all.

Kodaka: Of course I was happy. Oh, and sorry, would you mind letting me see everyone’s faces for a moment?

(The audience area lights up.)

Kodaka: I see. Just as I thought... everyone here has really good skin!

Audience: (laughter)

Kodaka: That’s because they play The Hundred Line. People who play THL have good skin.

Ogata: Something weird just started. (laughs)

Kodaka: So I want everyone to recommend THL to the people around them and save them too.

MC: That really sounds like some suspicious religion. (laughs)

Kodaka: Maybe someday there’ll be a live-action drama or film adaptation, or DLC, or the 10th anniversary, the 100th anniversary, the 1000th anniversary...

MC: You won’t even be alive by then! (laughs)

Kodaka: Who knows what kind of reputation THL might have in some far-off future civilization. Maybe it’ll be worshipped as the game that improves your skin. Anyway, please continue supporting The Hundred Line.

With that, the daytime event came to an end, and attendees exited the venue while a flute arrangement version of “Sedum,” the ending theme song, played in the background.

---

This is the final report on the daytime session. I hope to post a report on the evening session at a later date.

Thank you to everyone who read this!

The Tsukumo Siblings Persuasion Mission

MC: For the second segment, the cast members will be tasked with persuading a member who’s trying to leave the Special Defense Unit to stay. We’ll split into a cast team and a creator team, and each side will come up with a line to persuade them.

Ogata: Isn’t the creator team basically guaranteed to win this? We’re not professionals when it comes to writing lines.

MC: You may be right about that. (laughs) The prompt will appear on the screen, and everyone will come up with their lines based on that. Also, if the cast team loses, there will be a punishment game! Kimura-san will take the punishment on behalf of the team.

Kimura: Me?!

MC: Alright then, let’s get started right away. First, we’ll have Ito-san perform Kako’s lines for us. Kako’s Persuasion Mission begins now!

The screen displayed the in game Persuasion scene UI, and Ito performed Kako’s lines live on the spot.

Kako: "There’s something I want to say. Why won’t the people at Too Kyo Games let me shine more?! I don’t even have a single route where I’m the heroine! It’s always Kirifuji-senpai or Kawana-senpai becoming the heroine instead...!"

Ogata: You’re already the biggest heroine of them all! (in Ima’s voice)

Kako: "I’ve never even been treated like a heroine at all. Don’t you think that’s weird?!"

Ogata: Guess we’ve got no choice but to kill Kodaka for imouto-chan’s sakeee (in Ima’s voice)

Kako: "I want to be the heroine too! Make a DLC where detective me takes center stage in the Maruko murder case! Otherwise, I’m quitting the Special Defense Unit!"

MC: And with that, the first prompt is: “I want to be the heroine!” Oh, looks like the creator team is already writing away.

Ogata: No backtalk. Just give imouto-chan everything she wants. (in Ima’s voice)

Each team had been given a sketchbook, where they wrote down their persuasion lines.

MC: Alright, both teams have finished their answers, so let’s hear them. First up, the creator team!

Kodaka:If you’re gonna say that, maybe we should replace the cast instead♡

The cast members immediately reacted with cries of “Ehhh?!

MC: So you’re going with outright threats, huh? (laughs)

Ogata: Unforgivable.

MC: Now then, let’s hear the cast team’s answer!

Kimura: Alright. I promise I’ll make Kodaka create a Tsukumo siblings route for the DLC!” (in Takumi’s voice)

The moment he finished, the audience burst into applause.

MC: And now that we have both answers, let’s have the audience vote! Everyone who preferred the creator team’s answer!

Nobody in the audience applauded.

Kodaka: Normally, you’d at least expect one person...

MC: Then everyone who preferred the cast team’s answer!

Huge applause erupted.

MC: Alright then, let’s see the persuasion results!

On the screen, Kako’s Persuasion Rate rose until it reached 100%, triggering the success animation.

Kako: "Well, if you’re willing to go that far, then I guess I won’t quit after all... But you’d better actually make it happen, okay? Give me looooooots of chances to shine! Otherwise, my rifle just might start blazing!"

MC: And with that, the persuasion was a success... though, Kodaka-san, are you really going to make a Tsukumo siblings route?

Kodaka: Well, guess I have no choice now. Though Kako wasn’t included in the Romance route because she’s a middle schooler, right? (looking toward Uchikoshi)

Ogata: You already had a middle schooler sleeping with women for money, so what difference does that make?! Seriously... should I just kill him already? (in Ima’s voice)

MC: Next up is Ima’s Persuasion Mission. Once again, if the cast team fails, there will be a punishment game. Kimura-san will take it on behalf of the team.

Kodaka: I saw a brainwashing chair backstage earlier. (looking toward Kimura)

Kimura: Ehhh?! They’re gonna turn me into an Idol?!

MC: Next, we’ll have Ogata-san perform Ima’s lines for us. Alright then, Ima’s Persuasion Mission begins now!

Ima: "There’s something I wanna ask. When is The Hundred Line getting an anime adaptation? Hurry up and make it happen already. A totally insane anime. The ultimate little sister anime!! Obviously imouto-chan would look super cute and fluid in the opening animation, like, ridiculously adorable. Come on, spend something like 10 billion yen on it already. You don’t wanna lose that company you worked so hard to build, right?" (in a threatening tone)

MC: And so, the next prompt is: “I want an anime adaptation!” What about everyone in the audience? You all want to see an anime too, right?

Audience: (huge applause)

MC: Looks like expectations for an anime adaptation are pretty high among everyone here too. Now then, I’m very curious to see what both teams came up with. This time, let’s start with the cast team!

Kimura:Alright. We’ll make 100 episodes of the anime!” (in Takumi’s voice)

MC: Ohhh, now that’s ambitious. (laughs)

Kimura: With a budget of 100 million yen per episode.

MC: (laughs) Alright then, creator team, your answer please!

Kodaka:As soon as I get home, I’m starting work on the anime scripts.

MC: Oh? An unexpected alliance!

Audience: (huge applause)

MC: Somehow this has turned into a situation where only Aniplex is in trouble now! (laughs)

Kimura: Wouldn’t five minute episodes work too?

Ogata: Why not start with a movie first?

MC: Well then, let’s see Ima’s reaction for now. Will he accept their persuasion?!

Ogata: Um... excuse me. The script doesn’t really fit anymore at this point, so I’m gonna ad-lib this part a little.

On the screen, Ima’s Persuasion Rate rose until it hit 100%, triggering the success animation.

Ima: "Well, I guess I’ve got no choice. If you’re willing to go that far, I’ll help out in this battle... But Aniplex-san, you understand, right? I’m really expecting you to make this happen."

(According to Ogata, the original line had been directed at Too Kyo Games, but she changed it to Aniplex instead.)

MC: And with that, the persuasion succeeds!

Kodaka: Since it’s an SRPG, I’d love to see even cooler action scenes in the anime version.

MC: The bar just keeps getting higher and higher. (laughs) Since both persuasion attempts were successful, it’s time for the prize presentation! The prize is 100 Tirol chocolates!

A table was brought out from the side of the stage.

Kodaka: What, they didn’t even print the THL logo on the packaging or anything?

MC: Well, well, well... let’s not worry about that part! And with that, we’ll move on to the next segment. Up next, the cast members will perform a live dubbing of scenes from the game!

MC: Next, we have a question for both Kodaka-san and Uchikoshi-san.

Q: Were there any developments or settings where one of you told the other, “Maybe you shouldn’t do that”?

Kodaka: It’s not exactly that I stopped him, but there was something I “couldn’t stop.” I didn’t even know the Story Lock system existed until right before release.

MC: Wait, Uchikoshi-san didn’t tell you about it beforehand?

Uchikoshi: I figured if I told Kodaka, he’d say “No way,” so I kept quiet.

MC: Kodaka-san, if he had told you, would you have stopped it?

Kodaka: Hmm... maybe not stopped it outright, but I probably would’ve suggested letting players access the S.F. Route earlier. The structure made it take quite a long time before players could reach it, so I think it might’ve been better if people could play it sooner.

MC: What about you, Uchikoshi-san?

Uchikoshi: Even if he had stopped me, I probably would’ve pretended to agree in the moment and then secretly slipped it in anyway without anyone noticing.

MC: Did you ever try to stop Kodaka-san from doing something?

Uchikoshi: Well... this entire project, I guess.

Audience: (laughter)

Uchikoshi: When he told me he wanted to make 100 endings, I thought, “This guy has completely lost his mind.” So I made a gigantic flowchart and stuck it on the wall, thinking that if I showed him how absurdly complicated it would be, he’d give up. But instead, he looked at it and went, “This looks awesome.

MC: So it completely backfired.

---

MC: Next is a question for Ito-san.

Q: Was there anything you paid particular attention to while playing Kako?

Ito: When I first saw her, I thought she seemed like a quiet girl. But once I actually read the script, I realized she was very curious and innocent in a childlike way, so I really tried to preserve that innocence in my performance. Also, she grows a lot throughout the academy life story, so I wanted to carefully portray each stage of that growth.

---

MC: Next is a question for Ogata-san.

Q: What was your first impression of Ima?

Ogata: When I first read the script, there’s a scene pretty early on where he stabs one of his allies with a knife. I remember reading it while going, “Are you insane? What kind of mindset lets you do that?” But the more I played him, the more different sides of him started appearing. Like all the stuff involving women.* In the end, I just felt like I was helping express the kinds of things Kodaka-san wanted to portray.

*Referring to the fact that Ima, despite being a middle schooler, earns money by prostituting himself to women.

MC: Kodaka-san, what exactly was your intention there?

Kodaka: Well, part of it was simply that I wanted to portray this kind of middle schooler.

Ogata: Honestly, I kept wondering what they were going to do if the series ever expanded into other media. Society’s standards are pretty strict about this sort of thing these days, you know?

Kodaka: Actually, in the North American version, they never explicitly say he’s a middle schooler.

Ogata: That’s basically an R18 game tactic at that point, isn’t it?! Ah, by the way, we’ve been going at each other pretty intensely up here, but please don’t misunderstand. This is just the sort of relationship Kodaka-san and I have. We’re the type to verbally stab each other.

Kodaka: But Ogata-san gave me Diesel merchandise earlier today.

MC: So this kind of exchange only works because you two get along so well. Speaking of Ima, the reveal that he becomes Sirei’s body was also extremely shocking. Why did you decide on that direction?

Kodaka: For the first 100 days of the story overall, I wanted players to be left with regrets. One idea was that Ima would leave the group almost immediately after joining, leaving players wishing they could’ve fought alongside him more. But I didn’t want it to overlap too much with Shizuhara’s situation, so I thought maybe having Ima end up inside Sirei’s body would work better. When I brought it up during an internal meeting, everyone burst out laughing, so I figured, “Alright, let’s go with that.

MC: Ogata-san, what did you think when you heard Ima would become Sirei’s body?

Ogata: At the time, the visuals weren’t finished yet, but I remember asking whether I should adjust my acting to match the appearance change. They told me it’d be better not to change the performance, so I played him the same way throughout.

Kodaka: Ima himself doesn’t really care much about appearances anyway. It’s more that everyone around him is the one reacting in shock.

---

MC: Next is a question for Sakurai-san.

Q: Before release, you described Aotsuki as “a naïve and peaky guy.” What did you mean by that?

Sakurai: Well, since this was before release, I think I was trying to phrase it in a way that made people “sense something.” When I first started playing Aotsuki, I asked whether I should try to hide his true nature, but they told me, “You can play it from the start.” — Oh, hello there.

(Kimura held out the Eito plush he had been carrying toward Sakurai, and Sakurai noticed it and greeted the plush. From that point onward, he continued speaking while holding the Eito plush.)

Anyway, he has so many different sides to him that it almost felt like I was playing multiple characters. The more I worked on him, the more particular I became about the performance. There were times when I’d reject my own takes and ask to redo them myself. I’d say things like, “Sorry, could I try that one more time?” Sometimes I’d want to change something by just one or two millimeters. The difference was probably impossible for anyone else to notice, but they still humored me and let me keep adjusting it.

Kodaka: With Aotsuki, I wanted to provoke the player’s desire to “confirm” their suspicions. I wanted people to think from the start, “This guy seems a little suspicious,” and then when his true nature finally came out, they’d go, “See?! I knew it!

Sakurai: Characters with dual personalities like this are usually portrayed in a much milder way. But with him, we went all the way. I deliberately wanted him to feel a little “dangerously fragrant,” so to speak. When I read the script, I immediately thought, “This really feels like a Kodaka-san work,” so I decided to swing the character around as wildly as possible.

Kodaka: Trickster characters like Aotsuki are really useful for creating drama within the group itself. Once you have someone stirring chaos among the allies, drama naturally starts happening. I always felt that if a character like that became popular, then the whole work itself would become popular too.

---

MC: Next is a question for Kimura-san.

Q: Sumino’s emotional state changes drastically depending on the route. How did you approach performing those emotional fluctuations?

Kimura: I feel like I grew together with Sumino. Honestly, during recording I was just desperately throwing myself into it, so I barely even remember parts of it. Whenever Sumino got hurt emotionally, I’d just honestly feel hurt alongside him. If he was moved, I’d let myself genuinely feel moved too. I also tried to follow the direction very honestly. And somehow, through all of that, the performance gradually came together.

MC: Did you discover new things or expand your range through that process?

Kimura: Hmm... yeah. The G’ie scenes took an especially long time. For Ending 001, Kurosawa-san’s lines* had already been recorded, so I listened to her performance while recording mine. *Referring to Tomoyo Kurosawa, the voice of Nozomi Kirifuji.

There were parts of recording that were really fun, and parts that were difficult too. It felt like I was diving into the world of Hundred Line together with Sumino himself.

Kodaka: When we called Kimura-kun in for the final audition, it was technically still presented as an audition, but honestly we’d already pretty much decided, “Let’s go with Kimura-san.” But I don’t think he realized that at all. At the time he showed up with this huge unshaven beard, dressed like, “There’s no way I’m getting this part anyway.

Kimura: No, um... life was really rough for me back then!

Kodaka: Even if life is rough, you can still shave, can’t you?

Sakurai: Were you just focusing entirely on acting?

Kimura: Well... yeah. I was overthinking a lot of things. Maybe I was mentally struggling a bit. (awkward laugh)

Ogata: But at the start of your career, there are times when you can’t afford to overthink things and you just have to do it, right? You have to throw yourself into it honestly and completely—

(At that moment, the Ima plush Ogata had been holding suddenly flew out of her hands.)

Oh dear, look at that. He’s resisting.

Kimura: Ima resisted! (laughs)

Ogata: Well, the scenarios this team writes are completely crazy. Maybe there just wasn’t time to stop and think about things too deeply.

Kimura: With Hundred Line, it didn’t really feel like I was “building new drawers” for my acting toolbox. It felt more like they simply let me do everything.

Kodaka: I’d be happy if my works became something like a gateway for newcomers to break into the industry.

MC: The full survey results will be published online at a later date, so please look forward to them!

MC: Next up is the Top 5 Most Popular Special Defense Unit Characters survey! So, Kimura-san, do you think Takumi Sumino made it to first place?

Kimura: Well, I’d like Sumino to be number one, but there’s a pretty strong contender here... (looks toward Sakurai)

Sakurai: Kodaka-san?

Everyone: (laughter)

Kimura: That would be way too unfair! (laughs)

Kodaka: (laughing) I’m not actually a member of the Special Defense Unit, so I don’t think I qualify.

The rankings were revealed one by one during the event, starting from fifth place.

First, here were the results from fifth to third place:

3rd Place: Yugamu Omokage 4th Place: Darumi Amemiya 5th Place: Hiruko Shizuhara

Then came the announcement for second place:

2nd Place: Eito Aotsuki

The venue immediately began buzzing with excitement.

Then came the announcement for first place:

1st Place: Takumi Sumino

The moment this was revealed, Kimura shouted, “Yes!!

However, the second-place display then suddenly changed to:

Tied for 1st Place: Eito Aotsuki

The audience erupted into even louder surprise.

MC: Unbelievable! The votes were exactly tied, making Sumino and Aotsuki co winners for first place!

The crowd responded with shocked exclamations of “Ehhh?!

MC: This really wasn’t staged or anything. I even confirmed it with the Aniplex staff during our meeting, and the vote counts were genuinely identical. So, Sakurai-san, how do you feel about this result?

Sakurai: Well... when second place was announced, the audience got really noisy, but I couldn’t tell whether that reaction was “Wait, seriously?” or “Of course Aotsuki should’ve been number one.”

Kimura: I thought he was going to be number one!

Sakurai: Really? Huh... I guess everyone likes their characters a little dangerous.

Audience: (laughter)

Ogata: But Sakurai’s characters are always like that, aren’t they? When I first saw Aotsuki, I thought, “Oh, it’s another gentle Sakurai character,” and immediately figured he had to be suspicious. Right? You all thought he seemed suspicious too, didn’t you? Raise your hands if you did! (calling out to the audience)

Audience: (around 60–70% raise their hands)

Ogata: See?! And was that because it was Sakurai? (to the audience)

Audience: (around 40–50% raise their hands)

Sakurai: You totally led them into that answer just now!

MC: Alright, alright. We actually also have the rankings from 6th through 15th place, so let’s take a look at those too.

6th Place: Tsubasa Kawana 7th Place: Gaku Maruko 8th Place: Kyoshika Magadori 9th Place: Nozomi Kirifuji 10th Place: Kako Tsukumo 11th Place: Kurara Osuzuki 12th Place: Ima Tsukumo 13th Place: Takemaru Yakushiji 14th Place: Shoma Ginzaki 15th Place: Moko Mojiro

Ogata: I can’t believe imouto-chan only got 10th place! (in Ima’s voice)

Kodaka: Actually, the rankings around that range shifted around quite a lot right up until the end. Kawana was especially popular with male fans, though.

MC: Shizuhara and Amemiya are pretty popular too, aren’t they?

Kodaka: Well, actually, Shizuhara and Darumi’s rankings changed around a lot too. So it’s not like there’s some massive gap between them. The only truly fixed positions were 14th and 15th place. (awkward laugh) Honestly, I thought Aotsuki would be overwhelmingly more popular than everyone else.

Sakurai: Oh, really?

MC: Sakurai-san, when you’re performing a character, can you tell whether they’re going to become popular?

Sakurai: Not at all. I mean, he’s kind of insane. (laughs) I had no idea how audiences would react to him or how much people would accept him.

---

Next came the announcement for the Top 5 Favorite Endings.

MC: Kodaka-san, I suppose this ranking really shows which endings resonated most strongly with players, doesn’t it?

Kodaka: Yeah, it’s definitely interesting to see. But actually, we invited a world famous artist here today, and before we reveal the rankings, I’d like to bring him out. Alright then, come on up, Bruno! Bruno Mars!

As Kodaka called toward the audience seating area, Uchikoshi stood up and walked onto the stage.

MC: And with that, our surprise guest, Kotaro Uchikoshi!

Uchikoshi: Normally when you say “surprise guest,” people expect a voice actor or someone glamorous like that, so I apologize for the surprise just being me.

Kodaka: (laughing) If you’re really sorry, then get down on your knees and apologize properly.

MC: No, absolutely not! We’re not letting that happen! (laughs)

Uchikoshi: I was watching from the back of the venue earlier, and seeing how many people had actually completed all 100 endings honestly left me overwhelmed. Thank you all so much.

MC: Alright then, let’s move on to the Top 5 results.

1st Place: Ending 001 — Last Defense Academy 2nd Scenario: Farewell, Last Defense Academy 2nd Place: Ending 087 — Killing Game Route: Hope From Despair 3rd Place: Ending 055 — S.F. Route: All 17 Of Us 4th Place: Ending 003 — Goodbye Eito: Praying For Your Happiness 5th Place: Ending 072 — Slasher Route: Goodbye Kiss

MC: Kodaka-san, what do you think of these results?

Kodaka: As everyone knows, in Ending 001 everyone except Kirifuji dies, so I think the voice actors’ performances during those final death scenes probably hit people emotionally. Actually, Ending 001 was written around an anti war theme, so considering the current state of the world, I kind of wish Trump would play it… Actually, maybe I should stop talking there.

MC: What about you, Uchikoshi-san?

Uchikoshi: Well, the third-place ending was from a route I handled, but actually I also worked on the plot and direction for the fifth-place ending. So numerically speaking, I guess that means I win.

Ogata: What exactly are you two competing over? (laughs)

Kodaka: Interestingly, all of the voice actors appearing here today play characters who survive until the final battle in Ending 001, only to die in the end.

Kimura: That’s true. (awkward laugh)

MC: Ito-san, which route are you currently playing through again?

Ito: Right now I’m playing Sumino-senpai’s harem route. (referring to the Cult of Takumi Route)

MC: Ahh, that was one of Kodaka-san’s routes, but it didn’t make the rankings.

Kodaka: I think everyone secretly likes that route, they’re just too embarrassed to admit it.

MC: The fact that Goodbye Eito ranked fourth really shows how popular Aotsuki is. I’m sensing there may be some particularly passionate fans over on the right side of the audience...

Sakurai: Yeah, I definitely get that feeling. Thank you very much, it genuinely makes me happy. (speaking toward the right side of the audience)

Ogata: So in the end, everyone just likes the sweet ones after all.

Fan Questions for the Creators and Cast

MC: Next, we’ll be answering questions that were submitted in advance for the creators and cast members. First up is a question for Kodaka-san.

Q: Why is Yakushiji’s death the branching point for the Cult of Takumi Route?

Kodaka: The branch where Yakushiji charges in and dies at that point had already been decided from the start. But the scenario after that hadn’t been written at all, and eventually it became a situation where I had no choice but to take it on myself. And when I thought about what I could write quickly... honestly, the only thing I had in my toolbox was erotic stuff. So the result was an erotic route. Actually, there’s a manga called Destiny Lovers that I secretly worked on anonymously as the original creator...

MC: Wait, are you allowed to say that? It was anonymous.

Kodaka: Well, people have started figuring it out here and there, so I figured it’s probably okay to talk about now. Anyway, at first I was thinking of making it feel more like that kind of series. Or rather, more like To Love Ru. But before I knew it, it somehow turned into... that kind of story instead.

Ogata: Everyone. This is the man who won a scenario award.* *Presumably referring to The Hundred Line winning Famitsu’s scenario award.

MC: (laughs) Then next time, maybe we can get a happy erotic route too.

---

MC: Next is a question for Uchikoshi-san.

Q: Who is your favorite female character? (Other than Shizuhara.)

Uchikoshi: This isn’t just because Ito-san is here, but honestly, Kako is one of my favorites...

Ogata: I’m not giving her to you, you know?

Uchikoshi: (laughs) You know how in some routes Kako gets taken over by G’ie? When I was writing those scenarios, the cast hadn’t been decided yet. So I had no idea whether a voice actor would actually be able to pull it off. It was kind of a gamble. But once I heard Ito-san’s performance, it fit the character perfectly, and that made me become really attached to her.

Ogata: Ito-san, you seem to secretly enjoy playing messed up characters too, don’t you? Maybe this is your true nature.

Ito: (laughs) Honestly... maybe.

Ogata: Actually, this is the first time I’ve ever seen Rikako dressed this cutely. Usually, sorry for bringing up another series, but she dresses more like Mioda*. *Referring to Ibuki Mioda from Danganronpa 2.

Kodaka: Ah, from K-On!* right? *Mioda’s name was created by combining names from characters in K-On!.

Ogata: It’s not K-On!!

  • Megumi Ogata (voice actress for Ima Tsukumo)

As “Day By Day” (the title screen theme) played, the event began with the familiar Ding Dong Bing Bong chime.

The first segment was a short live reading drama performed by the voice actors while newly drawn event illustrations for the event were displayed on the screen.

Drama Segment

Takumi is nervously waiting backstage.

Ima approaches him and says, “Sumino-senpai, you’re still hanging around here?” He tells Takumi there’s no reason to be so nervous.

Takumi, however, is completely shaken.

S-s-s-sure...

Ima immediately replies, “Senpai, your voice has way too much vibrato going on.

Takumi admits that just thinking about having so many people watching him is enough to make him panic.

Ima reassures him:

The audience aren’t School Invaders or Commanders, you know?

Takumi agrees.

Yeah... this isn’t a defense battle.

After calming down slightly, Takumi asks Ima:

By the way... do you think this stage outfit suits me?

Ima answers:

Don’t worry about it. Though honestly? It totally doesn’t suit you. But the audience is gonna be too busy staring at adorable Kako anyway!

Right on cue, Kako enters wearing a dress.

Ima immediately starts showering her with praise.

Ahh, imouto-chan in a dress is ultra rare pretty!

(*In the English version, “imouto-chan” is translated with phrases such as “my dear sister” or “Sister Dearest.”)

Kako:

Hehe... does it look good on me?

Ima:

A devastatingly cute lifeform has been born! This is violence through prettiness itself… Princess Kako!

Kako:

Geez, onii-chan, you’re exaggerating!”

Ima:

Ahh... I’ve reached the Happy True End. Ima Tsukumo’s hundred days have finally paid off. Ah! I can hear the ending theme playing in my head already...!

Just as Ima continues getting carried away, the sound of a door opening echoes through the room.

Clang.

Ah... Aotsuki’s here,” Takumi realizes.

At that moment, the familiar “DECIDE YOUR DESTINY” sequence appears.

The question shown on screen is:

Which Aotsuki is about to appear?

The left choice reads:

First playthrough fake nice-guy Aotsuki

The right choice reads:

Post-second-playthrough true-nature Aotsuki”

(The moment the choices appeared, the audience burst into laughter.)

The left option is selected.

A cheerful, refreshing Eito appears.

Hey everyone!

Eito begins reminiscing about the past year.

It’s already been a whole year since release. So much happened after that. We made merchandise, fixed bugs and released patches, the company president got recognized in China as an influencer... so many things happened. Ahh... thinking about it is making my chest feel full...

He talks as though he himself were a Too Kyo Games employee.

Takumi responds:

We need to give all the gratitude we possibly can to everyone who supported us this far.

Eito passionately encourages him:

It’ll be fine, Takumi-kun. If you made it through those hundred days, then you can do this too. You’ve got your friends with you. Let’s show everyone our bonds through the spirit of ‘We Are All One!’

Takumi nods.

You’re still cheesy as ever... but you’re right. I’m not alone.

Ima adds:

There’s no point trying to act polished now. Going all-in as your true self is what makes you senpai, right?

Encouraged by Ima’s words, Takumi finally steels himself.

He turns toward the audience.

Everyone! When I give the signal, give me a loud ‘Yeah!’!

Then he calls out:

Alright everyone! Let’s start the Class Festival!

The entire audience responds together:

YEAH!

And with that, the short drama concludes.

Introduction

“HUNDRED DAYS” begins playing in the background as MC Taguchi enters the stage.

(Taguchi had also served as MC for previous The Hundred Line livestream programs on YouTube.)

After a brief greeting thanking everyone for coming and promising a variety of event segments, the MC invites the cast members who performed the live reading onto the stage.

After each cast member gives a short introduction:

MC: First, Kimura-san, could we hear your thoughts on the reading?

Kimura: This was my first time actually performing scenes live together with the other cast members like this, so it was really fun.

MC: There was a huge laugh during the ‘Decide Your Destiny’ sequence. Today we got first-playthrough Aotsuki, but now I’m curious whether the evening show will go with the second-playthrough version.

Sakurai: Did everyone properly shout ‘Yeah!’ earlier? You really should commit to those kinds of things.

MC: Maybe the audience was a little quiet. (laughs) And what about you, Sakurai-san?

Sakurai: To be honest, I was actually nervous backstage. During game recording, we all record separately, so this is genuinely the first time we’ve really performed together like this. Seriously. Uh… nice to meet you. (Sakurai bows toward Kimura, and Kimura bows back.)

Ogata: You’re introducing yourself now?!

MC: Ogata-san, you also appeared on the livestream held 100 minutes before release, right?

Ogata: Yes, though actually, our Ito here has never appeared at a real-life fan event like this before. (*Ito is a voice actress affiliated with BreatheArts, Inc., the company headed by Ogata.)

Ito: That’s right. This is my first one.

Ogata: Everyone... thank you for taking imouto-chan’s first time. (speaking in Ima’s voice)

MC: And we have one more guest joining us. The scenario writer for this game, Kazutaka Kodaka!

Kodaka walks onto the stage.

MC: This event celebrates the game’s first anniversary. How are you feeling right now?

Kodaka: Well, the fact that this many people gathered here a year after release probably means The Hundred Line isn’t a kusoge (junk game) after all, so I’m relieved it didn’t turn out to be a terrible game.

MC: (laughing) Of course it isn’t a terrible game! Ito-san, you said this is your first event, but honestly you don’t seem that nervous.

Ito: No, I am nervous! (smiling)

MC: Really? You don’t look nervous at all.

---

Fan Survey Results

MC: Now then, let’s move right into our first segment. Before the event, we conducted a survey, and today we’ll be revealing some of the results everyone’s probably curious about. First up is the most common total playtime among respondents.

Q: Approximately how many hours have you played?

1st: Over 100 hours — 69.27%

2nd: 51–100 hours — 21.26%

3rd: 31–50 hours — 6.88%

4th: Under 30 hours — 2.59%

MC: Amazingly, nearly 70% of players have spent over 100 hours with the game! Kodaka-san, what do you think about these results?

Kodaka: Originally, The Hundred Line was developed as a game people could keep playing for a long time, where the experience would end whenever the player personally felt satisfied. But in the end, a lot of people actually went out of their way to see all 100 endings. I’m really grateful to everyone who spent so much time playing it. Thank you very much. At the same time though, it’s also kind of surprising that about 3% of players are still around the 30-hour mark.

MC: At around 30 hours, that’s roughly just enough time to finish the first hundred days, right?

Kodaka: Yeah, around that much. Which makes me wonder what kind of mindset someone would be in to answer the survey at that point.

MC: Maybe they only bought the game recently?

Kodaka: That’s true. They might’ve just started recently. The game’s actually on sale right now too. I think it comes out to something like 46 yen per ending.

Ogata: That cheap?!

Kodaka: Yeah, it’s currently 40% off. (*By the time this report was published, the sale had already ended.)

Well, hopefully people can just casually play through it little by little.

MC: Actually, how many people here in the audience have seen all 100 endings?

Around 50–60% of the audience raise their hands.

Ogata: That’s incredible! Though honestly, sorry for saying this everyone, but... do you all just have way too much free time? (to the audience)

Kodaka: I really do want people to take their time with the game, so there’s absolutely no problem with playing it slowly.

MC: Kimura-san, do you also hope everyone experiences all 100 endings?

Kimura: Yeah... I know it’s a huge undertaking, but I worked really hard to perform all sorts of different versions of Sumino, so I hope everyone keeps playing!

MC: There you have it! Everyone, make sure you keep playing until you’ve seen all 100 endings!

This is a bit late, but happy first anniversary to The Hundred Line! I had meant to post this yesterday, but it turned into an extremely busy day and I couldn’t find the time. Thinking back, even on the day the game was released, I remember considering taking the day off work, but things were far too hectic and there was no way I could actually step away, so I ended up working as usual. 😅

To be honest, there were so many things I wanted to draw both before and after the release, and I even had a composition in mind for an anniversary piece. But realistically, I knew I wouldn’t have the time, so I decided against it. In any case, it has now been a year since the release, and the physical soundtrack has finally come out:

I’m writing this blog while listening to it, and once again I’m reminded of how wonderful the music in this game is. More than that, I’m surprised at how clearly I can recall the scenes where each track was used. It made me realize that I may like this game even more than I thought. haha

I haven’t really written detailed play logs, but I have been continuing my playthrough here and there whenever I can find the time. Overall, though, I feel that my experience with THL has been a journey toward coming to terms with Ending 001.

When I first saw Ending 001, it hit me pretty hard. At the same time, I felt that it was likely designed to make players want to search for a different ending. Following that impulse, I explored other routes with the motivation of finding what would feel like the best ending for me. However, the more I played, the more convinced I became that the conclusion of Ending 001 was ultimately the one that made the most sense to me.

There is a certain bittersweet feeling to that realization, but at the same time, it was reassuring to arrive at the conclusion that the route written by Kodaka resonated with me the most. While some routes have appealing character dynamics when you look at individual relationships in isolation, there is a clear imbalance in how much different characters get to shine. In contrast, Kodaka’s route stands out for how cohesively it portrays the Special Defense Unit as a whole, as well as Takumi’s feelings toward every member, making it feel the most complete overall.

That said, since Kodaka is the one who originally created these characters, it is only natural that he is the most adept at bringing them to life. I believe the other scenario writers also did a commendable job under tight time constraints. Given more opportunities to further develop each character, I imagine their scenarios could become even stronger. In that sense, I am genuinely looking forward to the possibility of DLC in the future.

To me, THL feels, in a way, like an unfinished game. It does have 100 endings, but judging from the vision Kodaka often speaks about in interviews, it does not seem like something meant to have a clearly defined conclusion. Also, while Danganronpa is an extremely compelling franchise, it did not become what it is through a single installment. It reached that level by building across multiple titles. I hope The Hundred Line will continue to grow into something even more engaging over time.

Actually, I have not mentioned this here yet, but I have tickets for the first anniversary event in Tokyo tomorrow, for both the daytime and evening sessions. I am really looking forward to celebrating the anniversary there. I hope it turns out to be a wonderful day! 🌟

(bursts into the room I FORGOT THE HNDR ANNIVERSARY WAS THE 24TH NOT THE 28TH. ok you get my speech from bsky)

I don't know what to say about the hundred line that other people have not already expressed in much more clear ways but theres less hndr fans on here so i gotta do my best.

its.. a game i think more than any other game i've played yet is something that has inspired me to really talk to people about it, to reach out to others and praise the innovative ways that the game has driven them to create art and analysis.

a game has never driven me to do that before and it truly is such a unique, explosive experience, kodaka has been unleashed and you can see his vision and heart bleeding through every second of the game, his dear love for these memorable loud characters he's created along with a lack of preciousness around them that allows the story to go intense places, the scope and vision of hundred line is unlike any other game i've played.

it truly feels similar to the scope and potential of comics, the collaborative effort. i would do anything to get people to give it a shot, its a truly wonderful, artistic, showstoppingly direct game

as a bonus, here's a doodle i did after completing the first route, overcome with emotion. i said at the time "hundred line is the kind of game only an insane person would, or even could make" and i still strongly feel that.
